  5. On my '01 Diplomat I was able to gain access by removing the back panel of the lower (crosswise) kitchen cabinet.
  6. I had a similar problem with my Trace inverter/charger. I bought a new Magnum and as I started the swap I unplugged the Battery Temperature Sensor. As soon as I did that it started back up. Plug it back in and it will shut down. Try unplugging the BTS first. Luckily, I was able to return the Magnum for a full refund. Of course I had to pay the return shipping and insurance.
  7. In case you didn't see my separate update, it seems that the problem has been solved. A bad Battery Temperature Sensor was preventing the inverter/charger from working properly. As soon as I unplugged it everything went back to normal. Of course this was discovered as I was starting to remove the Trace unit to replace it with my brand new Magnum unit. So, today's lesson, check the BTS for proper operation before ordering a new inverter/charger. Thanks to all that contributed.
  8. Ivan, the Trace BTS looks like it was glued to a battery at one time. As far as I know it was just laying on a battery for as long as I've owned it. The BTS that came with the Magnum is the bolt-to-terminal type. Vito, I bought a new remote with the Magnum. I assumed the ends were the same, end to end. If I end up using the Magnum I will double check the cable that came with it. I anticipated an issue with that and also figured out that rewiring a new end would be easier than routing a new cable. Thanks guys.
  9. So, to summarize my previous post, my house bank (4-6volt golf cart batteries) was showing low voltage and the charger wouldn't charge them back up. I would restart the charger, it would kick down and display "Float" within 2 minutes when the voltage was still showing as 11.5. The charger would eventually turn off. The inverter wouldn't come on either (I assumed because of the low voltage). I spoke with Tom Cherry on the phone and we came up with a plan to determine if the batteries were bad or if it was the inverter/charger. I put 2-12 volt deep cycle batteries from my boat into the MH. The charger just kicked back down to "Float" again because they had good voltage. I tried to draw them down with the inverter and it wouldn't come on. This was telling me, bad inverter/charger. I received my new Magnum 2012 inverter/charger today. As I was surveying the wiring on my old Trace to see how if everything was well marked I unplugged the 2 RJ-11 telephone type plugs that were connected. One was for the remote display and the other was for the Battery Temperature Sensor. As soon as the BTS was unplugged the charger came back to life. Plug it back in and the charger went off. I had charged the 4-6 volt batteries back up with a different charger while they were out (it took a while) so I swapped them back in and everything looked good. I plugged a quartz shop light in and turned on the inverter. It worked fine. I drew the batteries down with the inverter then plugged back in to shore power. Charger kicked in and is charging as I type this. At this point everything seems to be working. I will monitor it for a few days before trying to return the Magnum 2012. So, my question now is, how important is the BTS? Will I do damage running without it? I haven't yet looked to see if I can get a new one without buying the whole unit. Thanks, Tom
  10. Tom Cherry, The CO detector was chirping because of a low battery situation. Each series wired pair was reading about 7.6 volts on my hand held volt meter. As soon as I charged the batteries with an external charger the chirping stopped. The Trace will not maintain the voltage on the hiuse bank. It was 11 volts (on the RC-9 remote display) last evening and it was showing "Float". I should have been showing "Bulk". The inverter will not provide 120vac but that could be the low battery voltage kicking it off. Try to turn it on and the LED starts fast blinking immediately. My manual says fast blink=shutdown. As I said, I've never used it before so I don't know if it was working before. I'm pretty sure I've turned it on before but I don't recall ever seeing the fast blink.
  11. Thanks, I'd already found that manual site. They have a Series II manual but not a Series I. I have a general manual covering 3 different models but it is not very specific. If that thing is a breaker it has not popped out. The fact that it shows 15 amp tells me it's a fuse or a breaker. I'm beginning to think I just need to replace the whole thing. As I said, I don't need an inverter just a charger but I figure the next owner will be expecting an inverter in there. Looking for replacement recommendations.
  12. Rereading my posts I realize I've been typing converter instead of inverter. I don't know what happened to the type font on my last post.
  13. A better pic of the switch/fuse. Like I said, it looks like a switch but it won't switch. The "15 amp" tells me it might be a fuse holder but it won't open. I don't really need the converter, just the charger. I may temporarily put my 2 bank marine charger on it. It is 4- 6 volt batteries with each pair wired in series for 12 volts and the pairs wired parallel to boost amps. If I put the 2 bank charger on (1 bank/pair) do I have to disconnect the parallel connection? Any recommendations for a replacement unit that would be able to use the RC-9 remote? They connect using a 6 conductor phone-type cable.
  14. The Trace Legend is Model L1512 SB B20D with the RV-9 remote display. Converter output is 1500 watts. The 2 breakers on the unit are on. I'll get to the other checks tomorrow between rain showers. I have a general Trace manual that covers the Legend series and 2 others but there is no reset procedure shown. I'll look for a more specific manual online in the morning. I've had this for almost 3 years now and I keep it plugged into 20 amp shore power. I've never used the converter side, only the charger. In the picture there is a black square at the bottom that says Battery Charger and 15 amp. It looks like a switch but I can't switch it. Is this a switch? a fuse?
