  1. My 2002 Windsor now sits in a storage facility with no electricity. In order to keep the batteries up I'm going to remove them and store them in my garage over the winter months. What is the best battery charger to use? Should I connect all the batteries via parallel/series (12 volt) as they are in the motorhome or buy individual maintainers for each battery. In either case what amp charger or maintainer should I purchase. Also, my chassis battery is an big 8D, should I buy a separate charger for it and what amperage should it be? 2. Thanks for the info on the airbags. I hope to get a look at them this weekend.
  3. Thanks, I'll check it out when I go out to the storage facility. BTW, it only drops after its been sitting for a day or so. When I'm driving its at the proper height. Do you recall where you purchased your air bag, the part number and the price? I probably should buy 2 to keep on hand. Mine are 2002 original. Are they difficult to change out? 4. My coach does not have air leveling. I have hydraulic jacks to level the coach. Gary B. 2002 Windsor PBDD
  5. The air system on my coach leaks down over several days when the coach is not in use. I believe a slow loss of air is normal over several days. However, the green needle on my dash gauge always leaks down much faster than the red one. The result is the passenger side of the coach drops down in about 1 day while the driver side leaks down over 4 or 5 days or more. Does this indicate an airbag leak or ? 6. Following a 1000 mi. trip I noticed a drip coming at the rear corner my 22 year old Monaco Windsor. The dreaded plastic Surge Tank was seeping fluid about a quarter of the way from the bottom. I've read a number of post on replacing it but I have several questions. I located a replacement tank at Veurinks (its steel) in Michigan but they are currently out of stock and are waiting for a new shipment of tanks. I'm looking for a replacement as soon as possible. Talin no longer is producing their stainless steel tanks and Source has an aluminum tank. And I'm not sure if Source is still making their aluminum tank. Are there any other suppliers of this Monaco style tank? What's been the experience of those who have replaced their surge tank? My current tank has 2 holes at the top, one for a hose the other for the low level light. Veurinks tank only has one hole at the top and a site glass level on the side. I'm not sure where my existing hose on the top would connect. I presume its a coolant return line. Any thoughts from those who have made the swap? Gary B. 2002 Windsor PBDD
  7. Dwight, the information you provided me from the irv2.com site was helpful in determining the reason for the Low Fuel light being lit continually. It appears as though there is an internal problem with the Centroid fuel gauge. I'm not ready to replace it yet so I have disconnected the wire to the unit. No need to warn me that my fuel is below 1/4, since I never let it get much past 1/2 tank. Thanks for the info! Now onto the next item on the list. Gary B. 2002 Monaco Windsor PBDD
  8. Thanks Dwight! That sounds like a good place to start. I'll head out to the storage facility next week and check it out. Gary B 2002 Monaco Windsor PBDD
  9. I've been working on a list of bugs on my motorhome. My latest one is the low fuel light that came on last year after less than 50 miles after my fill. It went away after several miles but it came back permanently and has remained on after multiple fill ups. I replaced the Centroid fuel sender gauge several years ago. Could it be my problem fuel once again? Gary B. 2002 Windsor PBDD
  10. As suggested by several respondents I gained access to the black water tank through the side panel just ahead of the rear passenger wheel. I removed the spray nozzle from the side of the black water tank and and found it plugged and coated with hardened slime. I used my drill with a small bit to clear the holes. After remounting it with silicone and the 3 mounting screws it now works great once again. Thanks to all that responded! Gary 2002 Monaco Windsor PBDD
  11. Thank you Vito and Dr4Film for your rapid response! I'll check it out tomorrow. Gary B.
  12. Following our trip I proceeded to dump our black and grey water tanks. After dumping both tanks I connected the supply hose to the black water flush system. The hose built up pressure but did not fill the black water tank. I imagine the black water flush connection got clogged from the waste in the tank. How does the flush system in the tank work? And, any thoughts on how to unplug the flush system? Gary B. 2002 Monaco Windsor PBDD
  13. I'm looking for a Group Size 8D battery with 1400 cold cranking amps for my 02 Windsor motorhome. For the last 20 years I have been buying one every 5 years or so at Sams Club. Sams no longer carries the 8D. I've found 4D's at a number of stores but I don't think they have enough cold cranking amps. I can have one shipped in at a hefty price but I need it rather quickly. On many of the newer MH's I've seen 2 heavy duty 12v connected in parallel. I'm not sure if they will fit in the same space as the 8D. I would like some suggestions on which batteries would work in place of the 8D as well as the cable size needed to connect them together? Gary B. 2002 Windsor PBDD
  14. Once again, thanks for all the insight and suggestions on my slip joint issue. It was just as many of you thought, the grease gun partialy blew open the blue plastic sleeve. I returned to Housey Truck lube and the supervisor agreed that the blue plug was partially pushed out by the grease. Using a couple of large screw drivers he was able to push it back in its proper position. He apologized and suggested I bring it back for them to confirm its still in place following my short 300 mile trip the end of July.
  15. Thanks to you all for the insight you gave me on my drive shaft problem. I just spoke with the shop that did the work and they said to bring it in on Monday. As several of you have noted it appears that in the process of lubricating the universal joint the high pressure gun has blown out the blue seal. We'll see what they have to say. Housby Trucks is a large truck dealer that sells and services a variety of trucks and heavy duty construction equipment. Their Quick Lube is a separate facility on their site that offers drive through oil, lube and quick maintenance services for over the road tractors and trailers. Each year they are rated as the top truck service shop in the city. For the last 14 years I used them for my Windsor with no problems. My recent oil/lube cost, including the generator was $383.09, about 10% higher than last year.
  16. I took my 03 Windsor MH into Housby Truck Quick Lube in Des Moines Iowa today for a lube, filters and oil change as I have done for the past 15years. They do a great job and are very reasonable. The lube tech said I had Drive Shaft Slip Yoke that was about to blow out and passed on to me a photo he had taken while in the lube pit. I drove over to their repair shop for an estimate. They said it would be next week before they could take a look. What kind of cost estimate am I looking at to have the Slip Yoke replaced and probably the universal joint too? Gary B. 2003 Windsor PBDD (136,900mi.)
  17. Thanks for the tip. I pulled open the cover on the pedal and used an 8mm socket to tighten the screw but it made no difference. I guess its time to call dometic when they open tomorrow. We sure like this unit, in the past it has far outperformed the Thetford Aria that was always causing problems. Gary 2002 Windsor PBDD
  18. I installed a new Dometic Series 300 (321) toilet in our Monaco Windsor. It has worked flawlessly for the last 5 years. This morning after flusing several times the waste ball that rotates, when I step on the pedal, failed to open. Several attempts later and it still would not open when I step on the pedal. I was able to manually open it using my fingers, it rotates freely but doesn't close or move when the pedal is depressed or allowed to return to the upright position. The pedal seems to be detached from the ball. The pedal does spring back into place when you let up. I have checked out numerous Youtube videos on the Dometic 300 but none of them address this failure. Does anyone know how to diagnose and fix this problem? Gary 2002 Monaco Windsor PBDD
  19. Thank You all so very much. I figured it had to do with removing the moisture especially in defrost mode. I'm afraid I still may have a leak in the system. I have taken it to a highly rated mechanic in Ft. Myers for the last 2 years. They have cleaned the entire system, flushed and evacuated the system, replaced the compressor, dryer and connections and recharged the system twice with freon and luminescent leak detector. The system works well on my way back to Iowa each spring but by summers end is low on freon. My mechanic here in Des Moines, who has worked on my vehicles successfully for years can't seem to find the leak either. Last week while I was there we found the 2 new fittings at the compressor replaced in Florida this past February were both sucking air as he tried to draw a vacuum. We the ends replaced and the vacuum holding we recharged the system with freon and dye. Since it was cold outside he charged it with 4 lbs. of freon. We couldn't find any specs on the number of pound required. He said that way I could add more when reaching a warmer climate much easier with a hose and can from the auto parts store. Any one know how many pounds of freon a 40 ft. Monaco Windsor requires?? We have not been able to access the lines running through the coaches center channel to the front of the coach. I guess my next step is to try to remove the ceiling panels in the bay compartments to access the lines for testing. Gary B. 2002 Monaco Windsor PBDD
  20. For the past 3 years I have been having problems with my dash air. We've searched high and low trying to determine were the system was leaking freon. Once again, after replacing the fittings at the compressor, there seems to be a leak in the system. I think this is going to be an ongoing problem. My question for today is why the compressor is always energized even when I turn the dash control to heat/vent. No matter what position I turn the selector switch to from the off position the clutch kicks in and runs the compressor. I would think it would only be energized when the selector is turned to Air or Max Air. Should I unplug the control wire at the compressor during our winter travel? Gary B. 2002 Monaco Windsor, PBDD
  21. My Kwikee single step continues to run for 5-10 seconds when opening or closing the door. They do not lock in place unless I pull on them. When they retract they continue to run for a brief period and I must push them in. They often will not lock into a fixed position. Should I remove the steps and clean them thoroughly or is there a limit switch problem or ?? Gary B. 2002 Monaco Windsor PBDD
  22. The Transmission Control Module will not even power up on their in-house test system. They connected their test module to my system and the engine starts and the systems are working. They are now trying to find a replacement module for my coach. They said they cost several thousand dollars. I'm waiting to hear back from their parts manager on the cost and time frame. Gary B. 2002 Monaco Windsor PBDD The new TCM is $4,100, programmed and installed.
  23. Fuses all check out. They have pulled the Transmission Control Module and are checking it out now.
  24. We found it inside the panel just to the left side of the drivers seat. Gary B. 2002 Monaco Windsor PBDD
  25. Trying to track down the location of the Transmission Control Module. My transmission has lost it's power. I'm at Interstate Power Systems in Omaha where they are working on it. Gary B. 2002 Monaco Windsor PBDD
