Trailer Brakes
TommyL replied to Lolo1034's topic in Engine, Transmission, Engine Cooling, & Hydraulics
A few years ago we added trailer brakes, I eventually found the wiring (plug ) Tom C pic shows. It was buried in the wiring harness, left side of steering wheel. Just to be sure , we tested from plug under dash to trailer plug at rear of MH. 08 camelot tag -
My chest is so sore from hanging up side down in the engine hatch you can’t touch it with a powder puff. Also when upside down the bags under your eyes hang down blocking half your view. Getting old sucks, but it’s still better to be seen than viewed. Tommy &Cheri 08 camelot

Hope the passenger side doesn’t blow, there’s a 6” bundle of wires, hoses, etc. over the top . If I were smart enough to know the brake can sizes, would buy extras. Fleetpride truck parts,3.00$ sure price will double soon. Tommy 08 camelot tag

Update, tag axel canister leak . 08 camelot tag . What a PIA to get to, Ivan ours was not even visible from the outside. 18” of extensions on 1/2 impac , removed 2 nuts from can , reaching up from under MH . Then hang upside down in engine hatch to remove eye bolt. That was the easy part. Monaco left O extra clearance between floor and canister. 2hrs of prying mostly by feel, it’s out of the bolt holes. d*** ,can’t get it out, got to move air tube from CAC. Now we’re on the work bench, time to disassemble 2min. New diaphragm 3 $ . Time to reassemble,9min. Reinstall 2 hrs. All good no leaky. Cocktail time. PS diaphragm size #30 21/2” stroke . 08 camelot tag

Thanks Ivan and Ben , only leaks when raised so no hurry. Just hoping for an easier R&R for a not so accessible repair. Light rain now , will roll around under it more later. 08 camelot

Have several tight turns at home base ,so I do use the tag lift ( 08 camelot 43’ tag ). Wife is always my outside eyes in tight places, so she hears the new noises first. Air leak when you lifted the tag ! Still lifts tag , but a lot of air leaking around canister clamp, little if any out of small holes in can . Nearly impossible to get to and non adjustable cables, need to get the right stroke. OR since I can see the clamp maybe reseat the diaphragm. Not sure what it looks like inside. How about it c210pa18(Gerald) or Ivan , Ben or anyone who will share their experiences. Tommy and Cheri 08 camelot tag

Air cleaner

Put a K&N on a Ford 7.3 diesel work truck. Our mechanic that only worked on Ford diesels recommended removing. There was a a lot of fine dust in the outlet of the filter. This truck did spend 25% of its life off pavement. Only change air filter on our isl400 due to age , no restriction on gauge. It works, I check it yearly 08 camelot tag isl 400 -
Mike, I used a plastic barrel and about 12 ft. Of chambers (left over from other septic systems) true the barrel is small , but typically the solids go to the bottom and liquid to the leach field ( chambers) . If barrel concerns you ,might look at 100 to150 gallon liquid totes , about 50$ around here. We try to dump before the trip home so mostly 50 gallons wash out water, gray and a little black. My backhoe wasn’t here so I was digging by hand, therefore the small tank. Not DEQ approved. That would cost a few thousand dollars. 08 camelot tag ps. We used chambers because no coarse rock involved and large liquid volume.

The 09’s I’ve seen have a vented engine door , our 08 camelot is ventless. Hot,hot, hot. That’s why I was looking at cutting vents in, like you see on the side of inboard boats. But it’s been 10 years, and still living with it. -

Wish ours had the 09 air vents in the engine access door ! 08 camelot tag . -
Thanks Ben, I’ll have to look at tanks better when I get home Thursday.

Mike ,ours only has valves up front ( can’t spell schrader) . Yours in back kinda blows my theory of 40+ ‘ of suction hose causing a low, low side pressure. 08 camelot tag

Jeff. Air drier ,filter and governor replaced last spring, about 2500 miles. But I haven’t opened those 2 receptacles in 2 years + . My bad , just never thought about them ! Ben, you’ve got our sister ship ,I think. We’ve only got 2 air tanks, both up by the front axel , how bout yours. I drain my tanks every trip , these two will be on my list from now on, thanks. 08 Camelot tag

While fixing small air leaks I drained my air tanks. Might as well check auxiliary air chuck ,you know , the one you air a floaty up with,or a tire. Stuck my blow nozzle in pushed the button, blew 1/4 cup water out , mostly on me. Opened valve for emergency air, the one the wrecker plugs into, probably shot glass full water blows out . Haven’t used these in couple years, never see any water when I blow my tanks. Might should check these more often. 08 camelot tag

I to have been using high side pressure as my full mark . Low side never seems to get up to recommended pressure. I also use equalized pressure as a guide (let vehicle set overnight, high and low side will be the same , R134a chart will tell you optimum pressure at ambient temperature for Freon setting still wether it holds 2 lbs or 10 lbs . Takes longer but I’ve got more time than money.
