  1. I really appreciate everyone's input. Very thorough and insightful. I do have the electrical schematics and I'll take your advice and have the alternator looked at. It is easy to access and we have a good shop in the area. Again, thank you all - this site is an incredible resource. Kevin
  2. I noticed the voltage gauge on my dash was showing 16V (!}, so I pulled out my trusty volt meter and checked the voltage on the right side 12 volt box. The voltage right out of the alternator (going to the battery isolator) to be 14.9V. Is this still excessive? I've read the stock gauges are notoriously unreliable. Thank you, Kevin
  3. I never considered updated design - that's a really great point. Thank you.
  4. I always appreciate the variety of opinions from members on this site - I wanted to get your input. I'm doing coolant flush / replacement with all new hoses, thermostat and belts. Coach has 77K on 8.3 ISC - should I replace the coolant pump? It is convenient, as I will have the coolant drained and belts removed - but is it really necessary? Low miles, but 23 years. I'm on the fence on this one. Your thoughts? If yes, Napa vs Cummins original? Thanks for your input as always.
  5. Yes - I absolutely agree. The coolant I am going with is not OAT - but I appreciate the heads-up. No chemistry experiments with my 8.3...
  6. Thanks to everyone for your comments - 19 replies in 2 days speaks to how awesome this site is. Lots of reading and research has confirmed that I'm on the right track. I will be doing the ES Compleaat and the 2074 loaded filter and then check SCA levels after I run it a while. Travel safe, Kevin
  7. I'm about to go through my cooling system (new hoses, filter, thermostat, water pump, coolant) and I plan to use Fleetguard ES Compleat EG coolant. My plan is to use the SCA-loaded coolant filter as well. Is this correct? Or is the SCA already included in this coolant formulation? Coach is a 99 Dynasty with 8.3 ISC Thank you.
  8. I'm in the final stretch with my FASS instal. I mounted it in engine bay to L of primary fuel filter. My question is this: I have all these fittings and some leftover 1/2" fuel hose. Can I replace the line going between my FASS and the secondary fuel filter with 1/2" fuel line? Will that be enough to feed an 8.3 ISC? I know the stock is slightly larger with 1/0 AN fittings. I appreciate the ease of putting a union on the original fuel lines by the now-unused lift pump, but the idea of replacing the 24 year old fuel line with new is quite tempting. FASS went great BTW; relay in the L rear bay electrical box by the other identical relays; trigger wire to front drivers side elec bay via 7 wire trailer wiring connecting the two boxes. Looks like stock. All lessons learned here and irv2. I really appreciate you folks.
  9. Thanks to everyone for your responses - this is an amazing group. I have followed the threads mentioned above, as well as the huge number of conversations on this subject. This coach is new to me so I can't comment on the noise - the crack is obvious and I can literally feel the escaping gases. Sounds like best path forward is to bite the bullet and get the new manifold set. This will give me a chance to get acquainted with the turbo, replace its oil lines etc. etc. Like I keep telling my wife - this coach is not just an investment, it's a hobby. And it's cheaper than golf. Safe travels and thanks again.
  10. Facing the dreaded Exh manifold replacement for my 99 ISC 8.3. I had some sticker shock when contacting Cummins - $ 1,074 for the 2 piece manifold. Couple of questions for the group: 1. Does anyone have any experience with aftermarket (read: non-Cummins) manifolds like below? https://www.fridayparts.com/exhaust-manifold-long-3964070-short-3937477-for-cummins-engine-8-3-8-9-8-3c-qsc-isc-isl-qsl-l8-9?msclkid=d9f3fd81b0fd15595c259e59f6d0a446&utm_source=bing&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=PLA-usafreeshipping-US-9.23&utm_term=4586750202629092&utm_content=pla-usafreeshipping-us-9.23 2. The crack is in the smaller of the 2 piece manifold. Am I correct in assuming that these must be replaced as a matched pair? Replacing only the small portion would save a turbo removal, fewer bolts to break off, etc. Thank you all in advance for your input.
  11. Thanks for checking - I'm confident there is a male threaded connection somewhere along the enormous air filter housing...
  12. Awesome. Thanks to everyone for your assistance - I recognize several of you from other posts. Very talented group on this site to be sure. After quite a bit of pondering and tracing plastic loom cover, the mystery red line appears to connect to the air filter minder. Should be pretty straight forward from here. And on another positive note - I followed some other advice to whack the one-way. valve on my aqua hot for a non-functioning zone. Worked well. I'm two for two today! Again, heartfelt thanks to everyone. Have a great New Year.
  13. I happened upon a post elsewhere and answered my own question - it is an air governor valve. Common part, cheap (~$20), and sometimes go out leaving you stranded without ability to release brakes. Now I just need to find out where the unconnected red line goes...
