I just can't run everything on 30amp. In fact I can't run everything on 50 amp. That was the reason for the appliance shedding. The problem was, with the dogbone you were getting only ONE phase of power, with that same phase tied to both hot legs. Under that condition, all your 240v equipment will see 0v, but your 120v stuff should work fine, barring the 30a current limit. 240v single phase power is actually two legs of 120v, but 180 degrees out of phase, giving 240v phase to phase but only 120v to neutral. For future reference, it's also possible, depending on how the dryer is designed, that the motor and controls could work, but you get no heated air. Most dryer control and motor circuits are 120v and run off only one leg, but the heating element is 240v.
BennieH
The "Load Shedding" board is at the right in your electrical panel. This is from my '03 Camelot. Glad you found that the dogbone was your problem. Bob
