What about any other 12 VDC powered devices, are they not working at the same time you lose the ceiling lights?

The lights going "flickering" was the first sign my Salesman relay was failing.  Does the ceiling fan stop as well?

Can you explain the lock valve?

The lock valve moves under pressure to allow hydraulic oil to extend/retract the generator slide.  With no pressure it is suppose to move to block the hydraulic oil from letting the slide extend.  When I've had problems with my slide not moving and have taken the valve block out the lock valve was stuck and I had to blow it out with air.  I replaced it thinking that would solve my problem, it didn't.  Any contamination in the system eventually works it way to the lock valve, there is not filter on the system, since it is a reversing motor/pump system you can't install one.

I had attached a parts schematic for the valve block and also a manual for the slide.

Dr4Film actually fount a place that rebuild his pump and cylinder.  The pump is obsolete.

The only difference between coach tires and truck tires is the compound has treatment for UV to prevent cracking from the sun.  Typical RV use is low miles so the treads never see enough wear to prompt replacement.  We are due for replacements at 9 years, kept indoors the whole time less camping.  No cracks.

Goodyear G670 275/70-R22.5 Sept2012

Looking at Continental and Michelin for replacement, soon.  Would consider any quality tire except if made in or by chyna.

On my 04 navigator I would lose connection on my blue fire plugged into the diagnostic port but the Aladdin would also shut off at the same time. Found a broken ground going from the diagnostic plug in the engine bay to the starter.

You could try plugging into the port in the engine bay. If it still doesn't work I would test the ports. You can look this procedure up on line.

Thanks Bill. thought I had responded back to you after your first suggestion to contact them. I did try to contact Actia with no luck. Left messages and haven't gotten a return call. Do you have an contact info?

This is the info I have which dates back to 2019.  Hope it helps.

Ok well I may need to try that. There is no pressure on the lines unless the pump is running correct? The pump and system I assume is self purging of air after opening since it has a vent on the reservoir? This all started immediately it seems when extended I notice the extended fluid level line showed it was low so I filled to the line with maybe 4-6oz of ATF

There seems to be some confusion here, since answers are not what I think the op is asking.

If you’re talking about the rubber seal that goes around the slideouts, there are numerous options and styles which are specific to the slide.

Here is one company, but there are others: steelerubber.com

Bill Groves created a F B group called, Monacoers and posted there,  on the replacement of the air bags on his Dynasty which he did himself.

Paul, replacing the springs is not a difficult job....providing one has the proper equipment to do so. There are only four bolts holding the springs in place, with an air connector on top. That said, getting to those bolts is another story altogether. While I have some mechanical abilities and knowledge, I don't have the proper tools to do the job. The coach must be properly supported, (you're disconnecting the air lines), the wheels must be removed, (to access the bags) then everything must be reinstalled and properly torqued. In addition, one must have a location with which to be able to work on the coach. As a full timer, I no longer have any of those options at my disposal. In my book, $180/per bag is worth every penny...in and out in two days.....I do admire those who have the ability and equipment to do these types of repairs.

That was my plan Dennis.  I was also going to do an engine oil analysis, but when I reviewed the paperwork, there was nothing indicating any service history.  There were some other issues, like a soft spot in the floor, the aqua hot exhaust pipe was missing...  just determined that there was to many obvious signs that it had not been taken care of.

Another aha moment eh? I found the same thing when shopping for a coach. We flew to Arizona to see a Dynasty that I had negotiated with a dealer on. After crawling over, under and through the coach, I had four pages of 'stuff' I found wrong with the coach. The dealer 'promised' he could repair all the 'stuff'. I declined, as those types of things indicate the previous owner didn't care too much about taking care of maintenance. How one fails to replace the Aqua Hot exhaust pipe is beyond my comprehension....Dennis

Monaco used Teflon tape on all the connections.  Small particles of the tape will get in the fluid and block the valves.  The entire system will need to be flushed, thoroughly cleaned, and dried.  Chuck B.  2004 Windsor

Yeah, dometic doesn’t provide support… My new AC came with one half of a modular connector and I was having trouble finding the other half so I called to ask if I should have received the other half, and if not maybe give me a part number???

I did get someone on the phone. The answer was “Sorry. Call your reseller. We don’t answer questions “.
Walter

I my recent experience over the last few years, Dometic, never a stellar company to start with, is rapidly trying to overtake Lippert as the "King of Non-Support" and the manufacturer of increasingly poor quality products.  Their poor quality often begins with the weak engineering staff's performance in the design stages.  Witness the rollout of the highly-touted NXT A/C unit several years ago.  All the reports (from Dometic) were of how technologically advanced it was.  It all read so well, I delayed replacing my two roof units for almost two years as I waited for the product to become available.  I finally gave up and bought two then-current Brisk Air 15K units.

In all the time I tried to get info by calling Dometic, I got the response Walter got.  And they told me to "contact our highly trained resellers" for information.  I finally called three of the largest retailers in the country.  Two of them had never HEARD of the NXT.  One said, "Oh, that's only for the European market."  So much for "highly trained"!  Years after being announced, the NXT units are finally becoming available, but are certainly not garnering any rave reviews--just another mediocre Dometic product.  I wish I had bought Coleman, the choice of most high-end coaches.

And look what happened to Fantastic Fan.  When it was a family-owned business, their customer service was LEGENDARY.  Once acquired by Dometic, the product (which they don't appear to have changed, other than adding a remote control) is still very good, but customer support is non-existent.  I bought two of the units to update mine primarily because they had a remote control for use by my short wife.  After installation, I discovered that either remote would operate either fan.  Try as you would, you could not stop one remote from operating both fans at once.  I was sure there must be differently coded remotes (or ways to flip DIP switches).  I called Dometic.  REPEATEDLY.  Finally got some clueless desk jockey to tell me that "All our remotes are coded alike and cannot be changed."  Mediocre engineering strikes again!

I have decided to vote with my wallet.  I will not buy another Dometic product of any kind.

Ok so, I got through to Girard awning and the guy I talked to said that they only have one type of seal and he has no idea what I am talking about regarding the T-shaped seal between the MH and the awning.  $6/ft or go to home depot or lowes for same thing!  Wow and he was rude.  I just want to repair this correctly.  He says only 2 in wide is all I need.  Any suggestion?

Windshield Replacement--What Do I Need to Know?
chip4872

Greetings--

I developed a crack in my windshield on our last travel day.

I have my insurance company working on a replacement, via Safelite, who will apparently do the repair on site.

Question is, what do I need to look for  with respect to installation?  I have submitted the information from the windshield and measured the glass per their request.  I seem to recall that Monaco uses the windshield as part of the structure for the front cap?

Anybody have experience with Safelite on their RV?

Thanks.

Dr 4Film, only certain lights will go out and no appliances have gone out.  Jeff, the lights go out and stay out until I turn them back on. The salesman switch is working fine. The ceiling fans stays on. Hypoxia, the intellitec board, is that the board behind the 6 switch pads?

Windshield Replacement--What Do I Need to Know?
Dennis-C

I just recently had a damaged drivers side windshield replaced on our 1998 Beaver Patriot.  I have Allstate and they use SafeLite.  I didn't know that SafeLite themselves would take care of anything on an RV (on site), so I went to a local glass company that I connected SafeLite to after Allstate connected me to them.  The local place installed it but said something about the way the upper corners fit in these things that they had to do a bunch of Urethane filler and said the windshield would most like break there again.  They said they would not warranty this because of that fit issue.  In my last conversation with SafeLite they said that they would be helpful in any further issues with THEIR own warranty.  I don't have that in writing, though, hehe.

Chip, I had problems with installers using urethane adhesive with primer. I have found that cleaning the gasket and using a primer before using pure urethane gave a much better structural connection to the body.  My 05 Ambassador has a two piece windshield and the upper right corner seems to flex more and sometimes will pull away from the gasket needing a reset.

I would call Chris at Talin RV in Florida and ask him, he is a Girard dealer.  According to the parts list for the Girard awning, you are looking for

Rubber Seal for Flush Mount - Black (per foot)  Girard part # 1500502-99

I'm working on replacement number 2 in 3 years. Last one done by a Mobile glass installer on site. Not good. I requested new seals but they didn't bring them. So the seals started to pop out right away.  Glass started fracturing within months. The problem is with a one piece, there is so much weight that if it is not installed perfectly, you are going to have problems. I spoke to a rv glass shop in Orlando (referred by Insurance Co) a couple of years ago who was very familiar with this issue. Best case is to have a shop do the work on premises. I wish I could remember the shop name (owner is Chris) now that I need to do another replacement. May end up going to Lazy Days. I've watched them do a one sheet over several days. Very exacting process. The insurance companies don't seem to mind and I don't want to do this any more than I have to!

Mine works fine. I have it on Auto-ON which turns it on when the voltage changes and sometimes with solar charger working it does not register and remains blank until I push whatever button. Doubt that would be your problem however.

My chart shows Diagnostics power fuse (1 amp) in chassis fuse section in FRB. I don't know if it is actually used and I never had to trace it but might be worth a look. It is a different fuse from ABS diagnostics so it might...

New tires coming..........
birdshill123

I went to the Bridgestone web site. There is only one tire exclusively for a coach. It only comes in a 315/80 . Very aggressive tread. I would never put them on any mh. Maybe on a Prevost. There are a few tires listed that are primarily for trucks but also can be used on a coach. So to repeat what I wrote there really are no specific motor home tires other than the g 670

Anyone using those  is engaging in Russian roulette.

Even Michelin does not make rv specific motor home tires. They dud have one tire that was popular on  smaller motorhomes about 10 years ago. They cracked like crazy

I have not checked lately but most mfrs. use Michelin. I have seen a few with Contimentals. They stopped using Toyo after a problem  on National/ Country Coach. I think Toyo said it was front axle overweight problem.

Micro-air Thermostat
Bob Jones

I looked into some of the part numbers Microair supplied but was not comfortable they were correct. Some of them seemed to track back to other AC units and that caused me concern that they may not be correct. In my case, the two units are not heat pumps. They are the original Penguin I units with the metal condenser shroud.

It's sad that Dometic seems to refuse to provide help with purchasing their products. At least, for these old units. I did contact them on behalf of a neighbor for her Brisk II unit and they responded very quickly with the right part numbers...just not for mine...

I certainly don't want to replace my AC units unless absolutely necessary. I'm of the opinion that these 20+ year old units are much higher quality.

It will work best if the coach is on a level concrete floor.  Make sure that they use a flexible sealer.  Demand a new gasket.  If not the windshield will crack within 100 miles.  Let it cure for 24 hours before moving the coach.  Good luck,  Chuck B 2004 Windsor

I would consider these folks as a secondary source.    https://www.steelerubber.com/  They will send you several 12" samples to properly identify what you require. Very helpful on the phone.

I'm pretty sure you just need a standard board out of a penguin. The presence of heat pump and other options should just be dip switch settings. The circuit board has terminals for the compressor, fan and a few other things. It's not something that's highly specialized or sophisticated.

Have you checked ebay? I've got a non-functional penguin heat pump i could take the board off of.

Generator shuts down
Steven

Hi all,

I have a Cummins/Onan 7500 diesel generator that runs for 23 to 30 minutes and then shuts down. the code is 36. I have had the fuel pump and fuel filter changed along with new air filter.  I have both air conditioners running. Could it be I have too much load on generator?

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Steve.

On our 12.5 I would check the fuel actuator and its 2 wires for connection issues. The actuator itself could be getting bad too.. it just unscrews and you can check the plunger for free movement. Ours is Isuzu engine so it may be different. Code 36 could have many causes unfortunately, an engine shutdown without the controller commanding it.

Salesman Switch ????????
ok-rver

Jeff, By "the switch never worked" does that mean the relay did not open and close when you rocked the switch up? My Holiday Rambler manual states you must slide the little square down for the switch to move. Mine rocks to the up position without moving the slide.

woodylmiller, By "never used", does that mean you just left it in the on position?

The Michelin X Coach Z, and the XZA2 Energy are labeled coach and RV tires by Michelin, although after 3 sets that cracked in 3 1/2 years I'll never use them again.  Toyo calls its M144 a regional and urban bus tire.  Continental calls its HA3 a coach tire.  If you are only referring to its particular UV protection I think you are missing out on some excellent tires.  We have had the M144's on for 4 years, excellent ride, better than the Michelins in my opinion and my wife's.  Still look like new 40,000 miles in.  I wouldn't put another GY on our coach even if they said they were fully protected from sun, ozone, UV, etc, they are still awful tires in my opinion.

That's what I thought but all of them are non-returnable so if you get the wrong one you have to fire it back through the auction.

Is it hard for you to determine the part # on the spare you have lying around?

Also, I thought I saw somewhere that if you have two AC units you have to use different part numbers for each one. Don't know if it's true or not....

DO NOT USE Safellite, they are awful.  We had a chip in our windshield paid for the repair ourselves.  After the repair it was really easy to see where they had repaired it.  The tech then said it was not possible to do an invisible repair.  Windshield then cracked more.  We contacted Allstae and we had windshield replaced by a fabulous company: Joe Curro, National Glass tel; 720-401-0462 took care of everything dealt with insurer arranged for qualified people to come to our RV and replace windshield.  This company is 5 star.

When you say that it takes several attempts,  does it mean that it slows down until you do it again or does it just cut the pump off?

I hold the switch down for no more than 10 seconds each time the pump runs, then by the 4th or 6th attempt it comes in no delay.
