Oil- fuel prices.

Heads Up:

This thread is in danger of going off the rails into politics. Please remember to keep the discussion focus on RVs and politics affecting RVing. Fuel prices and a civil discussion of why they are rising is fair game. Blasting specific political parties or specific politicians is not. Personal attacks are not

True & thank you for bringing back on track.  But I did get a few laughs out of it.

Just the facts to the end user...Love's at Daytona/Ormond Beach one week ago $4.06  Today $5.30.  That's with TSD discount!!

Regardless of politics this will soon be crippling for our economy.   We can b/itch about recreation use, but for a daily long commuter and the owner operator  it will be devastating.  Big trucking will adjust quickly with higher freight charges which we will all pay.  The little guy can not adjust as quickly at 25% increase per week, he/she could be half way through a load with three more tanks to go!!

Hang on tight this ride will make 2008 look like a cruise.

I guess I should have seen this thread going where it did. The article I linked talked about derivative traders “banking” on higher prices and frustration on my part as people profiting from misery.

Another frustrating issue is fuel surcharges. They always go UP but never come DOWN when fuel goes down. That charge is built in forever.

The little guys in trucking will take an absolute beating with the fuel as they cannot raise up fast enough like a big carrier.

Sam’s Daytona $4.69 less 23 cents…$4.46.

Many of us up north (I am in Colorado) have nearly 100 gallons of diesel or more sitting in our my motorhomes in storage until the 1st trip.   I think I am with Vegaman19760 on this one.  I believe the average cost of each gallon was around $2.25.

The Gasbuddy app shows CA’s LA are diesel is running $4.79 - $5.99 a gallon. It also says Coso Junction south of Mt. Whitney is $9.00 !

Between my storage tanks, coach, standby generator, and drums of emergency diesel reserves, I have around 850 gallons of diesel stashed away in case of a shortage.
I don't really use it to ride out times of high prices, but more for the possibility that SHTF and we can't get fuel for some time.  My most critical use is for the standby generator, in case of a long power outage.

Hopefully I never need it, but the situation in Ukraine right now does make one think. 🙏

When you are on your deathbed it is not the trips you made that you will regret, it is the one's you didn't make that you will regret. As long as we are able to travel we will find a way to absorb the cost of fuel. In 2016 we made a trip to Alaska and back and drove the motorhome over 8000 miles. We would do it again in a heartbeat. So many fun memories and thousands of mind blowing photographs and videos. Also the previous record high for diesel was $4.84 July 17, 2008 and adjusted for inflation is around $6.19 a gallon.

The difference in fuel cost for an 8,000 trip @ $6/gal. vs. $3/gal. is $3,450  (assumes 7 mpg)

Not too bad, considering the return on investment in beauty, knowledge, and companionship.

After returning on a trip like that it is likely that repairs will cost more than the total fuel bill.

Diesel hit $7 a gallon in CA.  I paid $6.21 yesterday, the cheapest in the area at a casino.  Love's and Pilot were a dollar more.  Prices jumped 60 cents overnight.  Will this change our next big trip, oh yeah.  We had a 10,000 mile trip beginning this next Sept.  My guess is diesel will be close to $10 a gallon by then, so that 10,000 mile will change to about 2-3,000 unless sanity returns.  Just wait till this increase in fuel hits the shelves at your local stores.  No company can assorb these costs.  Costco is cheaper than Pilot/Love's, but by looking at the size of the line of cars waiting to fuel up, I would guess at least 30 minutes to reach a pump.  It's a mess.
