Has anyone replaced the Transmission Control Module (TCM) on their  2011 Monaco Diplomat DFT?  This is the small electronic component in the left front outside compartment where all the fuses are located.  The transmission is an Allison 3000-MH 6 speed.  I have been told it is going bad due to various things that the coach is doing from a service technician out of my state.  Plus last year, I had an electronic service tech bypass some neutral safety feature because the TCM was already acting up.  I would like to replace it myself, but I wanted to make sure it was nothing to technical.  I realize replacing the component looks simple, but is there anything like programming that is required afterwards?  Please advise if you are knowledgeable on this topic.

Unless a TCM was pulled out of a salvage coach from a 2011 Monaco Diplomat with the same engine/transmission, the settings may or may not be the same as the one you now have.  I would recommend that a service center with the Allison software transfer the settings from your current TCM to a replacement.  That's assuming that the TCM actually is bad and that you don't have a wiring connection or ground issue.  Did the service technician provide you with a list of error codes read from the TCM?

I had to have my TCM replaced in 2013.

My wife was getting to take the coach on a trip.  Pulled it out of the drive and parked in the street to hook up the Jeep.  Went to restart the rig and the Allison display had cat eyes showing and a no start situation.  Checked all the fuses.  Tried to get the nearest Allision shop, ~30 miles away, to send out a tech and they wouldn't saying they were short handed.  I was headed to Spain for business,   Best I could do was have the rig towed to their shop.  They said TCM bad, my wife drove ~150 miles to another one of their shops to get a new TCM and they programmed it and installed.  Coast ~$3500.

I know there are places you can send your old one to and have them fix and/or reprogram another one for a lot less money.  I just didn't have time to do it.  Do some searches and you can find them.

Wife as able to make it to the show in NY just in time for a handler to grab her Curly Coated Retriever and get to the ring   BUT on the way as she was pulling out of a fueling station she side swiped a metal pole and damaged 3 basement doors.  That was one expensive trip🤬

YEEOUCH,

To say that this was a good occurrence would be futile.  BUT, at least the TCM could be "READ" or maybe I erronously (HOPED) it could be read and the program copied..  Monaco (nor REV....don't be silly....LOL) DID NOT have a copy of your TCM.  The TCM was agreed to, model year and engine and rear end, by Cummins (or Navistar) and Monaco (later Navistar) and Allison.....as to WHAT shift points and such.  Nothing really magical about it.....it was based more on the RPM of the peak torque torque.....typically around 1250/1350 or so.  If you take the peak torque RPM and then include the rear end ratio and the Allison tail shaft or ratio in 5th and the Revolutions per mile and calculated the MPH that peak is reached.....then that is the approximate speed that you get, on level ground, the 5 - 6 upshift.  Can't say too much more about the programming....except to say....it would be NICE to have the parameters and that can be read out from an Allison shop.

Monaco had the TCM's programmed by an Allison shop or authorized enterprise and then marked for each MH....again based on engine and rear end....

But, as long as it drives OK and seems to shift like before and the Economy Mode works....then that is close.

Sorry about the REST of the issues....as well as the cost.

Have you tried the diagnostics?  TCMs are around $1300, so I wouldn’t change one unless it was truly “bad”.  I’m sure a new one would have to be programmed.  You might be able to send your old one in to get rebuilt.  Make sure all connections are tight and clean.
