Gonzalo Posted January 11, 2023 Posted January 11, 2023 I just Bought a 2005 holiday Rambler 400 Cummins engine ,and i can make the entry steps to retract when is of and doors are close ,only close when I put in gear . Also electric windshield sun visor is not working and blow the fuses every time .
Ivan K Posted January 11, 2023 Posted January 11, 2023 You should have a rocker switch to make the step follow the door, up front on dash, on passenger side or both. The switch could be bad or disconnected. If that does not help, there is a magnetic switch in the door frame that goes to the step controller, the wires could be ripped off, bad ground on one of them or the magnet in door missing. Appears you have a short in the shade circuit, I would disconnected the motor leads, one or both, to test. If that does not blow the fuse, bad or seized motor.

THE OTHER WAY....they are in and out every time you open the door....and that motor only has so many cycles in it....but again....some folks love that feature. Shade. Do you have TWO "shades" or do you have the folding or accordian pleat curtains that black out or block the sun and the motorized shade is a "mesh visor"? IF you have TWO shades up there....then you can move the power wires from the one blowing the fuse to the other one. I have TWO shades....white "window home style" and a green one. NOW....it gets COMPLICATED. I THINK you have individual shades on each window....and IF you do....then WHICH one is failing. There is a major difference in the circuitry on the drivers vs passenger. The Drivers side is a simple switching circuit. The passengers since there is (may be...usually) a switch for the driver to be able to control the passenger, that circuit is complex, of at least to me....and took a lot of noodling to understand. You CAN download the prints if you don't have them. After you test the motor or swap the leads....then the only way is to understand the circuit and start from there.
Gonzalo Posted January 11, 2023 Author Posted January 11, 2023 I have individual Shades and neither switch works, constantly blow the fuses. very hard to reach behind the front TV Can I switch to manually also were i can get the motor or the shades I prefer to close the steps every time since I did not used a lot but thanks, I also can leave out the steps just they get wet and maybe rust

Do you have TWO shades on each side....like I THINK you do? Or do you have a single "Green Mesh" on each side? Those shades should have one Driver's switch for the driver's side and TWO switches for the Passenger. The Driver has a parallel switch so he can control it. You really MUST look at the circuits. IF both Shades cause the fuse to blow (I think there is a fuse for both....but there may be one fuse for each side....again look at the prints. BUT, if there is a common fuse and when you operate one or the other, the fuse blows, then the ODDS of a BAD motor on both are slim and none. SO.. reach up and under and remove the motor leads.....that removes the motor....but your issue sounds more like circuitry than motor issues....if BOTH are doing it. Next UP...Your call on the steps. Mine were powder coated at the factory. I have a cover over them....worn out two covers....and there is NO rust on the steps. BUT, i store mine under a cover (carport style) when not in use. That is 10 months out of the year. If I was in OPEN storage, I might consider always retracted when in storage....and stays out until ignition when using. The amount of rain and weather you get when in use (I logged almost 60 nights average, per year for 10 years) is not gonna, in my opinion, cause a problem. BUT, even doing that, I had to replace a motor after 12 years. I just do not plan on doing that. again...so I limit the cycles when in use. .
jacwjames Posted January 11, 2023 Posted January 11, 2023 Do you know what Make/Model of shade do you have. I have Colorado Sun Visors on my 2002 Windsor. I did have to replace one of the motors a couple years ago. My guess is that my wife set something on the motor and the motor was try to raise up the visor, the motor got so hot it melted the plastic mounting frame. I was able to pry the motor off and I found a replacement. The replacement is slightly smaller but has the same rpm and it raises and lowers the shade without a problem. I check the speed against the drivers side, both raise and lower at the same rate. You can see the make/model of the smaller one which is what I used. OEM motor was obsolete like many of the Colorado older parts. Here's a link to the one I bought. Greartisan DC 12V 50RPM Gear Motor High Torque Electric Micro Speed Reduction Geared Motor Eccentric Output Shaft 37mm Diameter Gearbox 1
Gonzalo Posted January 25, 2023 Author Posted January 25, 2023 thanks to you all I am working in the shades .
