Keith Russell
Good morning, have a 2002 Monaco Sig series - my aqua hot works but when I'm running it at the race track everyone comes up and tells me it's smoking really bad. What can I do to fix this issue?
Chargerman
First place to start is to give it a servicing. Replace nozzle, fuel filter and set the electrode distance. Also clean the burn chamber. When was it last serviced?
Keith Russell
I had a guy here about a year ago working on other stuff and I asked him to check system out and I believe he only added antifreeze, lol. I called 2 local guys about this issue and none want to work on aqua hot. Is there a detailed Manuel on doing the service, Im handy and not scared to attempt this. Chargerman
It is pretty easy. Maybe try YouTubing it. The biggest thing to be careful of is to be sure not to overtighten the nuts that hold the burner in place or you will snap an ear off of the casting. Very light torque on those. Also, be sure to get the correct nozzle made specifically for the Aquahot burner.
diplomat don
If it is smoking a lot it is likely fuel pressure is too high. Happened to a friend of mine last winter, he had it serviced in Quartzsite then 5 weeks later it was smoking quite a bit and when we went to the FMCA Tucson rally the same company was there, they came back and checked it and the fuel pressure was too high and by quite a bit. Adjusted it and it was fine, no charge. We are at the FMCA rally in Redmond Oregon right now and they are here and I had them service mine as it was starting on diesel sometimes but not others. First thought it was the brain but turned out its was the coil only working intermittenly after try two new brain boxes. He was the same guy and upon asking the question about fuel pressure going out of adjustment said he doesn't know why but it happens. New coil on mine and working great. Told me about a few things wearing on mine but not needing immediate attention so will get done when we are in Quartzsite as they will be there. Chargerman is right about servicing, but I would recommend only doing 1 at a time or you won't know what the problem was. The company that fixed mine and our friends was De Gerald Services, @lloydsrvheating.com they travel around to busy areas so are at FMCA, Quartzsite, Arizona in winter etc. Good luck, Don
vito.a
First, just as Steve said perform the complete Aqua Hot service. When you install the new filter add some Lucas fuel treatment. This will pump through the system and clean/lubricate everything.
timaz996
The first thing that usually starts that is the nozzle. Easy to change and you can find out how on YouTube as other have sent. I also run Lucas field treatment all the time because our ultra low sulfur diesel fuel needs more lubricity for the injection pump on the in engine and this helps everything else. Dr4Film
What type of smoke are you getting from the aqua-Hot exhaust, greyish white or darkish black? Does it have any type of smell to it? Edited August 15 by Dr4Film
zmotorsports
Lots of good suggestions here already. If you look at the Members YouTube section on this forum, I have a couple of videos that I have posted over the years pertaining to not only the annual service procedure on the Aqua-Hot but also a much more involved and detailed video showing the removal of the entire burner assembly to rebuild it on the bench. Smoking can be attributed to several things so I hate to start guessing and throwing suggestions out because I have found aside from merely replaceing the nozzle and filter and making a few checks to the igniters, that there can be multiple causes for the smoking symptom.
