Jim McGarvie
Our 2002 Knight (built in 2001) has an Allison 1000 cooled by a side radiator with an electric fan. How is the fan controlled? Is there a thermostat? I tried turning the ignition on and listening by the cooler but did not hear a fan. Is there any way of testing the fan? Jim, Does your coach have any kind of radiator at the back? If it does, I would wonder if that radiator on the side might be the A/C condenser. If there is a radiator in the back, crank the engine up and turn on the dash A/C. Check to see if that fan comes on. Carey

We've only had this coach 23 years. I will check it out. Thanks Carey!
Jim McGarvie
Carey, I checked as you suggested and that is definitely the dash A/C condenser. And the fan is working. Thanks!

Jim, I think I remember a variety of discussions over the years about early-2000s rear radiator (not sure about side radiators) setups having the transmission cooler built into the radiator itself, with the engine coolant, CAC, and engine oil being the three radiators in the stack. The issues arose when cross-contamination occurred, I think engine coolant getting in the transmission fluid. As long as you monitor these fluids regularly, you should be fine, especially after 23 years!
