jimmy77
Ok I bought a 2001 with a 8.3 Cummins in it. The guy I got it from ran it out of diesel. I have filled the tank all the way up, filled the lines, filled the filters, crack the lines going to each injectors. Also crack the air valve on the injector pump. Fuel comes out of all when turning over very well. Still will not start and run on its own only runs on starting fluid. I have worked on automobile my whole life diesel. Gas propane Semi, cat, Detroit, tractors a ford guy but never worked on a Cummins What am I missing please help
Ivan K
I don't have a 8.3 but since you don't appear to have fuel delivery issue, can you confirm injector signal on the harness and/or at the injector connector itself if you have it open? Assuming an electronic engine in 01. Starting fluid in the intake would be bypassing them so that doesn't prove much.
Rikadoo
DONT USE STARTING FLUID!!! These engines have intake heaters!!! It can cause SERIOUS ISSUES
timaz996
Turn on the ignition and go back to the engine and listen for the lift pump running. It should run for 30 to 40 seconds before it shuts off. If it runs and cycles like it should and does not have any diesel seeping from the top of it, you should do that cycle three or four times. Then see if it will start. A lot of of us that have that engine with your injector pump on it have added a FASS to our motorhomes and bypass the lift pump because they are poor design making the injector , pull fuel all the way from the front tank
cbr046
Wild guess but check the intake heaters??? A quick check would be a voltage drop when ignition switched to 'on'. Or pull the heater fuses and see if there's the same voltage drop . . . . - bob
Rikadoo
With out using starting fluid, when your cranking the engine over does it even try to start? When your cranking it over is there any smoke coming from the exhaust, You said something at the begining, “ the guy you got it from ran it out of diesel”. Did he sell it cause it wouldnt start? And was it totally out of fuel? Then you said you cracked the injectors an bled them, and you got fuel running out very well. Have you checked for any codes? I know you said you cracked fuel lines an bleed fuel out but i need to know something, if you are under the coach looking up, just above the starter there should be a device that has fuel lines at the the top with a electrical plug at the bottom, can you look at the bottom of it an see if it looks like its been leaking fuel like maybe a drip or two on the bottom of it, if it has you will see the starter may have signs of fuel on it too.
