I've got a 2012 H.R. Ambassador and my hydraulic leveling system has an oil leak so I use only the air leveling system. The slides on my rig aren't hydraulic, electric motors only, so the hydraulic pump isn't needed. I level with air, lower the entire chassis as far as the system will allow, then open the slides. The air system holds level for a couple days, then I need to switch on the onboard air pump to fill the tanks to maintain level. Or you could restart the engine and let the air tanks fill that way, too. I've not used my hydraulic leveling system for the past couple years.

The Allison Trans didn't come with a long dip stick, just a short plug at the top of the fill tube. Use the on-dash trans pad to check fluid level (see your owners manual) and other trans condition stats. There is a short stick right on the side of the trans but you don't need to crawl under to check it. Just use the trans pad on the dash.

I just went through this exact problem with my 2012 H.R. Ambassador. It was the clock spring in the steering wheel. Not easy to find someone who can fix this problem but ask around.

Bob, I live in the Las Vegas desert and we just don't get much moisture to deal with, but you do make a solid point.
