  1. When buying my coach 7 years ago (03 Dynasty 400 ISL side radiator hydraulic fan controls) I took it to Cummins and had them plug it in to see if there was anything out of range (over revs, temperature, etc). It checked out perfectly. Once I bought it I found out that the PO had complained about it running hot (he used data from dash gauge). Bottom line: the location of the sensor installed by Monaco gave high readings but the Cummins data- read from the area around the thermostat- was perfect. I now use Bluefire to pick up the Cummins data (181 to 183 normal, maybe 193 in Colorado mountain climbs) and ignore the dash gauge. It’s a cheap first step before moving on to the steps mentioned above.

  2. Time to replace my Michelin XZA2 295/80R22.5 tires on a 2003 Dynasty. Seems like currently the only option from Michelin in that size is a X COACH (or X COACH Z). Does anyone have any feedback on their use of the X COACH tires? Should I be considering other brands for a quality, smooth riding tire? I tend to not pinch pennys when selecting tires for a motorhome and want “the best”, not necessarily the best value.

  3. To clarify, are you considering permanently removing the slide locks to fix a clearance issue? You probably don’t need to do that.

I had a similar “clearance” issue on my 2003 Dynasty that was caused by…ME! I replaced the locks once, and then again damaged the replaced locks before I decided to read the owners manual for recommended procedure for extending and retracting the LR slide. I *was* leveling the coach first, then extending the slide. On departure I retracted the slide while still level (ie still on the jacks). That’s wrong for my coach (with 3 point hydraulic jacks). Once I changed the procedure to extend and retract while the coach is still aired up (no jacks), the “clearance” issue corrected itself! That opening is big enough for everything to work without damaging the slide locks if done according to the owners manual.

  4. I use the same procedure as Ben (96 evo)…slides out first before dumping air and leveling on arrival, then airing up and retracting the jacks and then pulling in the slide on departure. I broke 2 of the large slide locks on the large hydraulically operated slide before I decided to pull the instruction manual out to read the recommended process for my coach. If I dumped and leveled first, the coach gets torqued slightly out of shape creating an uneven clearance between the slide and the opening which would break the lock. Since I changed the sequence, zero issues. (Two slides, 3 point hydraulic jacks leveling, ‘03 Dynasty).

  5. On my 03 Dynasty with a dual-fill full-width fuel tank I have noticed that if I fill from the “low” side of the coach that I can only get about 3/4 to 7/8 full but if I fill from the “high” side I’m able to completely fill the tank with the gauge showing full. Take note of which way the coach is leaning when stopped in the fuel lane and fill from the high side. (You may also have a sensor that needs to be recalibrated but this may help solve the problem).

There was a good post on the IRV2 forum where a ~2000 Dynasty owner changed out the the hydraulic lines on is single slide.  Turned out to be a pretty big project, while he was doing it he took the cylinders out and had them rebuilt along with the synchronizing cylinder.  This was preceeded by an alignment issue.  Here is the post https://www.irv2.com/forums/f115/2000-monaco-dynasty-slide-room-cylinder-rebuild-and-hose-replacement-547651.html

I think one of the problems was that the hoses are installed prior to the house being built.  The hoses are routed in the belly of the coach and can be hard to access.

    Good Luck

Jim J- Thanks for info on the iRV post. I’m leaning towards replacing all slide and leveling jack lines.

I remember reading about leaky hoses with a certain system, different from what I have. Our HWH hoses are still good at 20+ years (knock on wood). Hopefully someone involved in that discussion years ago will comment but I am certain you are not the only one with this trouble.

Ivan K- Like you, I didn’t have an issue with leaks…until this summer. It seems like they are all showing the same signs of deterioration.

  7. My 2003 Monaco Dynasty has developed some minor leaks in the (slide and levelers) hydraulic system, either in the fittings or the lines. My repair shop is suggesting that I may want to consider replacing the 19 year old lines. (My goal has always been to keep the coach in pristine condition, opting for preventative maintenance rather than deal with emergency repairs). Question: does anyone have experience in replacing hydraulic lines? How labor intensive was it? (The engine system hydraulic system is fine- this is the system for LR slide and levelers).

  8. To expand on Twomed’s comments: I’m not sure if there is an adjustment you can make to bring the bottom in that last half inch. But I do know something about how to *improperly* retract a slide because I broke 2 slide locks in the last 4 years of ownership by doing it wrong before I read the instructions (I’m a slow learner). For my coach- a 2 slide ‘03 Dynasty with hydraulic leveling- the proper procedure is to extend the slide with full air on the suspension *before* leveling the coach, and to retract the slide *after* you build full air prior to bringing the slide in. It’s my theory that the opening in the sidewall “racks” slightly when on the levelers, preventing the locking mechanism to clear the seal and sidewall, which damages the slide lock- it’s a very tight opening. It could also create enough stress on the components to do things similar to what you’re experiencing.

Now my question is What the heck do the slide locks- commonly seen on early 2000’s Monaco products- actually do? Can they be removed?

PS. I owned a 2002 Dynasty with 2 slides and an air leveling system for 5 years and never had an issue with breaking slide locks. I think the problem occurs when you have hydraulic levelers.
