Very common problem. Shifter control also controls neutral safety switch. Look for box under shifter panel. Wiring compartment left side of driver. Box has eight screws holding cover. Remove cover and replace ten amp fuse. Light for panel should come on and neutral safety switch will now allow starter to engauge.  Thousands of dollars spent for this ten amp fuse.

My 2003 Cheetah came with the Howard steering control. After researching in great lengh, how to get repairs on unit going away in 2006 I removed completely and had Safe-T-Plus unit installed. Very happy with safe-T-Plus!

Having built Delco starters for years, I would suggest you update to 39MT Delco. The nose piece has six allen head screws so you can clock the mount. Most important thing is to make sure you count the teeth on the drive. Have used several imports and they will out last your coach. Most likely your old starter died from low amperage or the brushes hung up. Very common for the MT40/42 starters.

Had same problem on my Cheetah. I reversed the lower towel bar. Now have towel bar inside to open door. 

As a retired truck mechanic you probably have bolt on blades. You said 32” blades, but are they necessary. Blades that long put excessive strain on the wiper motor and transmission linkage. Look at your vision area and get blades that clear your vision for safe driving. You could possibly use 26”/28”.

Had very similar thing happen on my 2001 Safari Zanzibar. Just shut off going down road. Had unit towed to Cat dealer, Thanksgiving eve. As I started to think this over the check engine light was not on. That was the answer. The fuse for the ECM quite making contact. Pulled out fuse and it was not blown but holder showed extreme heat, melted plastic. It seems China has been making the fuses from thinner material. I found a old made in USA fuse and measured the thickness. The USA lugs are .015 thousands thicker. Could not find any 20 amp ATO fuse so used breaker with copper lugs .020 thicker. End of problem. 

The small wire has to have twelve volts when the key is on to excite the regulator in alternator.
