Is that from SEA or a local vendor.  The glass, has to be cut and then shipped to a distributor that can heat treat or temper it properly.

For those that are unaware, when a piece of “tempered glass” BREAKS….a GaZillion piece of glass or beads.  WHY? Safety.  If you pop of the outside panes on the driver’s windows or a piece of an OEM Boat (runabout or big cruiser), it totally shatters and doesn’t impale you.

SOLUTION… find a supplier, locally, that can cut “dual pane….laminated windshield glass”.  Has to be the same thickness….which might be a problem.  Done all time for side glasses…..as it is HARD to get an OEM replacement panel…

OTHER SOLUTION….put in a Plexiglass panel.  Use Double thickness…..might have to Laminate with a heavy duty double sided clear tape. If slightly thinner, use double stick tape to shim out where the frame is.  Done ALL the time on boats.  Eventually will have some UV haze… but WAY thicker. Sometimes a panel is “bowed” or has a slight twist.  Had a boat windshield….looked perfectly flat.  NOPE.  My glass guy put in two exact temoered fit panes….when he tightened up the frame so the glass would swing out and latch….the stress shattered it.  Plexiglass to the rescue….

My Plexiglass cost $50….a NEW panel, just the glass, from the boat builder…$450….

I would use 1/4 inch clean Lexan as it much harder to  break than regular plexiglass, we used it to make motorcycle windshields years ago and the never broke or cracked

  3. Any one know where  the front furnace fuse location is  for a 2007 Knight or 2007 HD Ambassador?

Mine was working fine  when I  turned it off but the  next day nothing, checked voltage at furnace but its Zero. The thermostat is for both front and rear , the rear furnace is running ok.

    Appreciate all  assistance

Our coach is 2000 Monaco Diplomat 36DS with ISC 315 Cummins. Basically stock with exception of new vinyl floor, LED headlights and taillights. Still has original transfer switch and Legacy inverter/charger. Both chassis and house batteries are about 2 years old. Chassis batteries test in 12.4-.5 range with load tester.

Reason for submission is in last 18 months we have had to replace engine starter 4 times always with new units, not rebuilt. The only commonality I can determine is that we were always plugged into 30 or 50 amp pedestals. I do have a built-in Progressive unit between incoming power line and transfer switch. Between starter failures the rig maybe started not plugged into pedestal 5 or 6 times by storage facility staff to move the coach. Always starts.

What has failed each time is the solenoid on starter. This last time truck shop found the White Rogers contractor closed. He did replace along with starter.

Why do I leave plugged in? Always lower coach on air bags. Start engine to build up air pressure and raise coach to ride height This enables me to more easily load chairs, table, etc into bays. Maybe several hours before we leave so I have left rig plugged into shore power until ready to leave. Typically it will start to air up, but fails on second start to leave.

Ok, so easy solution is to unplug when airing up and unplug when ready to leave.

But I am curious as what could be issue causing failure of starter solenoid when plugged into pedestal? Power in house seems normal running microwave, maybe heater, water heater and TV.

Do Transfer Switches and/or Inverter/Chargers randomly fail? I am not an engineer or technician. Have a fair grounding in lay electrical. Any suggestions welcome. Thank you.

Pat you need a continuous duty solenoid  around  200amp. looks like the one in your picture is not continuous duty but intermittent duty so if left energized it will quickly burn up the coil.

I would like to relate a story here that drives home what Scotty said.

I knew a guy who had a stroke. He was an awesome individual and he wanted to get back into the online community as it was his only source of engagement with people. It also was great mental therapy being on a computer. The problem was when he joined a couple online RV communities he had members that brought up his lack of grammar and spelling. It was embarrassing to him. Sadly this gentleman was doing all he could to recover from his stroke which caused brain damage to his cognitive center. He ended his participation because of a few ruthless people.

I find it sad when someone goes after another individual who lacks grammar, punctuation or spelling skills. It is a pet peeve of mine. No one ever knows what someone on a keyboard may be suffering from. Pointing out their lack of skills in writing is heartless and shows that individual has an ego that needs to be displayed to make himself feel good about himself. I see little difference between correcting someones spelling/grammar and dumping someone out of a wheelchair because they cannot walk. If you feel the need to correct peoples English skills may I suggest you get a job teaching at a local high school.

The vast majority of our members here have compassion for one another. Unfortunately there is always one whose ego writes checks his rear end cannot cash. Thank you Scotty for addressing this. As the Grandfather of an amazing Grandson who suffers cognitive disabilities I get extremely irate over issues like this. Nuff said.

    So true Thanks

After having to mediate a dispute between two members that got out of hand today, I'd like to make a request...

If you feel the need to correct someone's grammar, spelling, or punctuation, you have two options:

    1. Send a private message to that person.  (Click on their user name, then click message in the upper right hand of their profile)

    or

    2. "Report" it to the moderators (Click on the three little dots in the upper right hand corner of the post, click "Report") and we'll handle it.

That said, if the correction is a technical issue (especially if it could cause harm to a person or a coach), don't hesitate to point it out.  You can post in that thread or use one of the two options above (as the moderators are volunteers, actually like to spend time on our coaches, and aren't watching every post 24/7.)

Said differently, protection of life and property is our first concern.

We're all here to HELP each other with our coaches, and we have a very diverse membership. What may seem like a friendly public correction to one might be very embarrassing to another. Let's keep the focus on that; not grammar, spelling, and punctuation.

    End of lecture 402...

I agree this is no place for squabbles. Take it private please.

    My 2 cents:

I visited the Marathon factory in Eugene and watched how they build their coaches, including how they built the wiring harness. They built it from an engineered schematic. I'm sure the schematic is saved in an electronic version for each coach to be shared among Marathon builders. It would be so easy for them to email it to the current owners if they wanted to. Why they don't want to, I'm not sure, but I suspect it has something to do with money, and how they can make more if a Marathon service center fixes it instead of the owner.

WRT Monaco, and their buyers, including REV. I have been dealing with the Monaco tech support for many years and have watched the transition from company to company, including REV. At one time Monaco had all the electrical diagrams, schematics, part numbers etc. but as Monaco changed hands they told me that "the schematics were not turned over to them from the previous company”. I suspect this is a convenient excuse to not have to worry about looking up this information and providing time consuming tech support, which costs them money. Very poor customer service, but luckily when I first purchased my 2001 Monaco Dynasty, I sucked them dry of all the possible information, schematics, diagrams, etc. as I could, just in case the new owners said "we no longer have that information".

    Just saying.....

A mechanic at the service dept in San Antonio Florida told me they had to have a service work order number in order to access electrical schematics for any coach. He was changing the dash house display computer in my coach and so I asked if I could get a copy of the schematics for my coach. He said sorry but no that's not possible .  A proprietary item is usually so the company controls R&D plus  the presale service work, a money maker for them but not good for the customer.

Not sure what your point is as to my Marathon problem . I am in the Maritimes and did not expect Marathon to have a service center close to me. I also do not need Prevost chassis repairs  as I can do  it in my own shop as I have for years. Electrical I also do myself  as I spent 33 years troubleshooting Passenger Elevator hard to find control issues. When my wife got sick and Florida wintering was not possible anymore  I wrote a letter to the president of Marathon explaining that I needed schematics for my coach and why. I never got a reply but later I called a contact I had there and he said I would get a reply letter for  sure  but he also told me no way would I get drawings, company policy. I'm still waiting for the letter. The Marathon is sold sad to say as they are a great conversion and we loved it , but life goes on doesn't it.

  10. To clarify Prevost Canada will supply lots of chassis electrical drawing and fantastic support. It was Marathon ,  the converter that would not provide schematics for the House part. To be fair to Marathon they do have a tech support hot line that is helpful but in my case that wasn't sufficient to solve some problems I encountered and visiting their nearest service center was not an option (4400 miles return trip ) .

    I really appreciate your response.

Northern Ontario winter has been very kind to us this year , no complaints considering what is going on around the world. Marathon coach, best of the best ! We have been entertaining the Idea of a Marathon and or other Prevost conversions , we have had some talks back and forth with Marathon (Oregon) in regards to many used coaches in their inventory, so in saying that listening to someone like yourself with the knowledge and experience helps me (everyone reading) to make logical decisions. A friend of mine owned my coach for 14 years prior to me purchasing it 4 years ago. Going with plan B, it has never been out in the sun unless it is on the road, 100k miles, going to spend 50k on end to end, updating/repairing little things and call it a day. I know the coach pretty much end to end.

    Thanks again Gary

I had Prevost coaches for 18 years. Can't beat a Prevost for ride and durability . If I had bought a Royal instead of a Marathon I'd still have it as Royals are way less complicated. Electrical is not problem for me repairing passenger elevators 33 years but without schematics the Marathon had to go.

By the way we are in Nova Scotia. We've been mostly snow free, Day time Temp -2 to +5 Celsius. We are close to the coast so we've had a fair bit of rain this Winter. Good luck  in your hunt and travels.

had two Prevosts and loved them. The last one was a Marathon Conversion and very nice ,well built, we loved it.  However my wife had some health problems and we decided to winter home  in Canada and not Florida as we had for 16 years.  I was  now 2000 miles from a Marathon service center and had to do my own  repairs  I asked Marathon for a set of electrical draws (Prevost house wiring is very complicated  without drawing almost impossible to repair )  however they said no way their drawing were propriety and not given to customers ever.  My only option was to sell it so I did.  We found a good 2007 Ambassador ,got a full set of drawings from REV last Summer and although its not a Prevost we are very happy with it. More slides so more Grandkids are able to join us. Happy Trails.

  13. Speaking of ramps I have built  an  outside ramp  12 ft long and I can stand up under the coach to work , its very safe made of steel beams and  built to hold a 54000LB Prevost 45ft I had until a few years ago. I drive on my ramp to check the front then back on to check the rear area. As I do all my own maintenance and repairs  its great to have. I will say that some air leaks are hard to find but dish soap and water in a spray bottle works great. Check  the push on air connectors if you have any and replace with approved brass connectors , make sure you get them for air lines with the internal brass sleeve that goes inside the air line. As an option You can cut 1/4 off the Synflex air line  to get rid of the old grove and  that will make  a new seal but I prefer to replace all push in connectors.
