  1. Hi everyone, we just bought our LaPalma last month and love it, but the interior was ready for an upgrade. It was looking a bit worn and dated, so we took it to the place where we had our 1976 Monaco Winchester interior redone.

Ray is a great guy and, funny enough, used to do the interiors for Caribou Manufacturing in the 70’s. We told him to gut it and start fresh, high-end carpet in the bedroom, dinette/sofa area and doghouse, and LVP everywhere else.

A couple of repairs had to be made to the floor, one soft spot in front of the fridge and one in front of the toilet. With the wood cut out and replaced, they skimmed the floor, and that’s where we’re at so far.

The floor will get skimmed again and then the LVP will be glued down. Right as it’s done is when we’ll be getting back from visiting my mother in South Carolina, in time to take it to McCall, Idaho, then back in to the shop for upholstery replacement. The dinette, rocker and valances all get fresh designs.

    Here are some pics.

  2. Check out a YouTube channel called “Bus Grease Monkey’. Scott is a DD guru, mainly pre-DDEC, but he does work on them and has forgotten more about the Detroit Diesel than most mechs could ever learn. If I remember, there was a video of a 60-series bus that came to him with the same symptoms, it might be helpful to you. He’s located in Tennessee, btw.

Why would you hook it up to power when you don’t know what it’s going to????  That’s kind of lighting a match to see if there’s gas in the tank.😩

Wait, lighting a match to look in a gas tank is wrong? No wonder I have no eyebrows! 😁

I did it, because I was 99.9% sure that it was a sensor. What I didn’t think about was the 6v vs 12v post…my batteries are opposite the way Rik’s are, so I’ll be changing them to match the way his are.

Thanks for everyone’s input, I greatly appreciate it.

  4. Hello everyone, I replaced all of my batteries today and went back to the 4-6v setup that was originally in our 2005 LaPalma 37PST…the Previous Owner had put in two 12v cheapos that were burned out and discharging sulphur gas.

After cleaning out the compartment and hitting it with a lick of paint, I noticed that there was a wire that looked like a telephone cord curled up and tucked away.

Am I correct to AssUMe that that wire is for the Xantrex Freedom 458 inverter/charger? I ask because we had a similar wire in our Airstream hooked up to our Iota and it functioned to let the charger know when the batteries were charged.

I hooked it up to a positive post of one of the 6v batteries, because it looked like the perfect length…am I correct?

I’ve attached a picture for reference.

Thanks, Stephen!  Yes, the original fell apart on the previous owner and he simply took the guts from the OEM unit and used one of the the terminal bolts and both nuts from it to tie all the cables together (effectively eliminating the disconnect altogether).  That's how it came when I bought it, and how I've gotten to this point.  I know I SHOULD have gotten a better quality disconnect(s).  I didn't know how cheap these were until I ordered the OEM and got it.  When this one fails (or the one for the house batteries in the back), I intend to order 2 good marine replacements.  Thank you!

Rick, this post has been a Godsend for me. We just bought a 2005 Monaco LaPalma 37PST last month and have the exact same issue as you, except my P.O. taped the wires together, after using the guts of the old cutoff switch to bolt them together. Thank you so much to everyone here for the help!
