  1. So glad to hear the issues with M&M have been resolved positively. Happier to know Frank now has a good inventory of switches to help others stranded by Eaton and K'berg. FYI, I noticed Copart has a couple of Roadmaster chassis units coming up for auction. Photos show a full compliment of master and slave switches and I assume CCM's installed. Condition of units will be salvage only. If someone is interested they might want to follow these and see where they end up.

I guess a drowning person will take any assistance.

That was my position in ~2014, we were getting ready to leave on a trip and the EMS was dead.  I tried everything to get it up and running and ultimately called M&M.  Who ever I talked to was very patient and walked me through a reset procedure, that didn't work.  Ultimately determined that my board was out.

I got prices on the components required for the upgrade to the 760 model, new display, board, and wiring harnesses.  I had already done some searching and M&M quoted a fair price, considering the time they spent helping diagnose.  The caveat was that we were leaving the next day and M&M agreed to ship it to the destination I was going to be at in "2 days".  I did receive the package and got it fixed.

So I am pleased with my interaction.

I guess things may have changed in the past 9-10 years. In April of this year I spoke to M&M about replacing a bad CCM in my coach. I was told they had one but the price was $18,000!!! Seriously. I found a new one at REVGroup for $1,200. The list of other less than ethical business practices are lengthy although I won't elaborate here. They may know what they are doing, problem is you don't know what they are doing.

  3. No the 09 Sig does not have removable fenders. I think the only way to get to the 1 1/8" air fitting is to cut the fiber wall from inside the bay. There is simply no way to get a wrench on the fitting and apply any force at all. To loosen the fitting on the front bag I had to hold a 2x4 against the wrench while a helper hit it about 10 times with a 20# sledge hammer. It must have taken more than 200 ft# to break it loose. Once loose it spun off with ease.

  4. THE PHOENIX HAS RISEN!

I feel like I am making a baby announcement, but I am excited to announce that Brett's (and now my) Signature has been given another chance at life.  Thanks to Franks hard work, extensive expertise, tenacity and generosity the Kongsburg system has been brought back to life again. EVERYTHING works as it should. I told Frank I would have been happy just to get the headlights working again but frankly I never expected to have the entire system back in operational condition without writing huge checks to the Candy Shop. I cannot thank Frank and all the other Monacoers who kindly gave their support in achieving this lofty goal. Thank you to all. The best result is not that my Phoenix (her new name) is made whole again it is that the lessons learned in this undertaking will benefit many more owners by continuing to enjoy their significant investment and undoubtably from its enhanced resale value.

    Thank you all again!

I am impressed.  A "never say die" attitude 🙂  Love it.

Me, I would have replaced the proprietary stuff with less than proprietary.  But that's looking from afar.  Nice work!

I am doing some automation enhancements on my Newmar (that applies to any coach).  At some point I will be posting about those updates.  My next trip is Hilton Head in a couple of weeks.  I am targeting then to have lots of it working.  I will polish stuff while sitting down there in the nice weather!

Oh, it would be cool if you share the J1939 bits that we look at technical integration of "your stuff" and "my stuff"

Huge kudos to Frank for his tenacity to achieve something nobody else has been willing to undertake or been able to do so. He has take a system some have called a very expensive anchor to living again. All the while expecting nothing in return.

  6. Thanks for the suggestion. Two years ago I had a mechanic replace the transmission in my old Winnebago. He raised the rear wheels off the ground without blocking the front wheels. The coach drifted forward and fell off the lift. He was under the coach and it fell onto him crushing him. He was in ICU for weeks and is just now getting back to work. Probably why I am so reluctant to go under.

  7. Set the switch to manual. Turned off the engine with the coach at drive height. Checked an hour later and the PS was completely deflated. DS was still inflated, about an 6" difference in lift. Previously tried to raise the tag's but they do not lift. Guess I will have to manually raise the suspension to max, crawl under and work really fast.

  8. Yes it is when parked in Travel mode.  The compressor can keep ahead of the leak in Travel mode but when parked with the engine off it leaks down. I haven't tried to switch to auto or manual when I park it. I will try that and see if it makes a difference. Great suggestion!

  9. The Monroney sticker for my '09 Signature indicates it has a TIRE PRESSURE/TEMP MONITOR SYS at a cost of $3,124.  However I don't see any documentation or system components that would indicate that the coach has a TPMS. Does anyone know who may have supplied this system or have any documentation on it?

  10. '09 Signature PS air suspension leaks down in about 30 minutes. Extreme list. DS seems OK but coach is on the ground in less than 24 hours. Any suggestion on where to start looking for a leak that would drain all DS air bags simultaneously? Can't hear anything leaking.. Am reluctant to crawl under the PS side with such a large leak. Did that once, won't do it again.

  11. Update on Brett's 09 Signature. I acquired this coach in April. As most know it suffered a very debilitating lightning strike that took out several control devices. The engine ECM was replaced at a cost of $1500. This have back all the dash chassis gauges. The rear Megatech ECM was acquired from REVRV for $1200. They still have some of these in stock. This gave back all the CCM controls including all chassis lights except headlights. They also have a few switch modules available. I installed an Auxbeam multiplex light control to control the headlamps. I got a box of CCM connector pins from NAPA to connect into the wiring harness at the CCM so no need to cut or splice anything. It can be removed in a couple minutes. So at this point all the must haves work for less than $3000. The only item of consequence is there is no control of the engine brake. I don't know if it is a contact closure to actuate or if it has logic.

Frank has kindly offered to research and repair the front CCM and the switch modules. He has the entire system now. The CCM may be good but with two bad masters we can't know for sure yet.

So making progress and things are not as dire as they seemed a couple of months ago.

  13. MODERATOR EDIT….ALL REPAIR POSTS, recent ones, from the original Signature Resroration Topic…HAVE BEEN MOVED!  Read the 7/30/23 POST for explanation of why the Signature  Restoration has been “split” and this NEW Topic is for Repairs and Issues…..specific to the Kongsberg CCM chassis.

    END of Edit

Follow-up on my Signature Kongsburg failure. Today I received a new rear CCM (B-16623982) from the REV Parts Warehouse in Decatur IN. I had heard they no longer had any stock of these CCM's available but that appears not to be the case. It also seems as though they may still have additional stock available. It wasn't cheap but an order of magnitude less that M&M wanted. I installed the new one and Voila, now have wipers, brake lights, turn signals and flashers. I haven't had an opportunity to test all the CCM functions but looks good so far. Brett told me that M&M had tested the CCM and declared it functional but that was not the case. That makes two out of the three issues solved (mostly). Now on to the front CCM.

  14. Just an update to Bretts Signature. As Frank said Cummins Orlando confirmed a failed ECM. Took old unit to Automotive Computer Solutions in Hialeah. They told me that too many components had failed to economically rebuild it but they could flash my ECM parameters to another ECM. I was suspicious but didn't have another option at the time since we were already a couple of weeks behind schedule to return to home in PA. Installed new ECM, got back dash gauges. Installed a multiplex light controller to temporarily get  headlights, clearance, brake and turn signal lights manually working. The coach was running OK so headed out. Not a lot of power nor boost to begin but the further I went the better it got. Shifting smoothed out after the trans relearned and went into 6th at 55. Kept it under 65 and made it to PA. I had an OBD monitor installed. Boost finally went as high as 28# with a max 420HP on a long mountain climb on I-99.  Doubt the ECM was programmed for 650HP. Also wondering the effects of no longer having the remainder of the "program" Brett had installed with what I suspect is now a standard 400HP ECM. I cannot recommend Automotive Computer Solutions for many reasons.

I called M&M to see if they had any Roadmaster CCM's. They said they did but proudly told me they were $18,000 each!! I asked if they could reprogram a Workhorse CCM to a Roadmaster spec. Was told they couldn't because although they physically looked similar there were many differences in internal components. I have my suspicions regarding that. I am sure the programming is different because of the functional requirements but from a manufacturing prospective doubt there would be two significantly different products designed with the same form factor to do essentially the same thing.

I bought a couple of new Workhorse CCM's at a good price for parts if needed. Now that I have some time to devote to this I will take Frank up on his kind offer to see if we can get this system functional again.

I would love to get my hands on a replacement - particularly if some additional interfaces could be worked in (say browser based management through a Bluetooth connection).  I suspect there may be other K owners that might bite on this.  We have a 2008 signature (new to us in Oct 2022) and this event has put a big hitch in our giddy up for updating/improving the coach.   I get a custom motherboard would be spending, I for one would be very willing to look at a project to sponsor what would have to be a small batch of boards.  There may be others out there.

Well, I have a dead CCM that could be used to reverse engineer something

That is impressive if you drove it to Orlando as it would not shift out of first gear when i drove it out of the resort to get it to the wrecker that took it to Copart. Also there were no working lights on front or rear, to include brakes or turns. But glad you got it somewhere.

It shifted to 5th. I didn't go very fast. You are right, no signals. My wife followed me closely so there would be no surprises. Did it over two days using side roads.

  17. I had it towed off the Copart lot to just outside the gate. I didn't feel the tow driver was qualified enough to transport a coach that size. He did not know how to charge the suspension so I had him drop it there. I charged the batteries, it started, so I drove it to Cummins in Orlando. It is there now. It runs but is on power inhibit. My plan is to take it to my son's in McDonough GA. Will work on it there. Hope to talk to a couple of the guys on here about various approaches to solve the Kongsberg problem. I am an electrical engineer but not up to speed on some of the latest systems. Wish I had found this site before I acquired it. Someone else probably would own it. Now to try to make a silk purse out of a sows ear.
