  1. Boy, you are ontop of it.very good info. I was thinking there would be some company that would have off the shelf wheel spacers that would fit but it looks like you have to have it machined specifically for your rig.
  2. Hi, I am calling around to try and find someone who currently has wheel spacers for our 98 Dynasty, to pull the rubbing bolt a little farther away from the dual tire. Spectrac just inspected it all yesterday, no cracks or problem in the suspension. Turns out trying to find a company that will do this is tough, as the wheel spacer is too large for them to machine. I called the Henderson line, recommended in Tom Cherry's post and they had no idea. He said to call US Wheel Adapter in Lubbock. They can't do it, too large. Called arrowcraft products, and its too large for them I have a call into Barry at Josam's in Orlando but he won't be back until Monday, but I did find one company in Canoga Park, CA. that perhaps can do it. But I lack one of the measurements they need. spectrac said I have 10 lugs, a 9 inch axle diameter and 7/8 studs. But wheeladapter must have the exact measurement from the center of one lug to the center of the lug on the opposite side of the wheel. The tech I talked to said they could machine it but just need that measurement. anybody have an idea of what that measurement is? And would it be the same on the outside dual as the inside. (sorry for the stupid question) Thanks
  3. David, this is an excellent post and I will surely do it next week. The tech at Spectrac told me yesterday that the tires really didn't need to be replaced, in his opinion. it was more of cosmetic rubbing not digging into the cord. I've had rear tires blow before and it's a pretty scary experience so for peace of mind I'm going to see if I can track down the part numbers of the spacers and have them added just quarter inch spacers. Thanks
  4. Wonder if a heavy tow vehicle can put pressure on the rear duals as well. We tow a Hummer H2 with all wheels down, of course?
  5. Yes, I could see the problem occurring when we bottom out. the roads right now we came back on Interstate 40 were the worst. As I earlier mentioned I have the weird problem of having to drop the Monaco down on the airbags to get it out of the RV garage we built the garage for a safari and I need to drop the Monaco 4 in to get it out without tearing anything off the roof and I'm sure that little bit of traveling with the airbags deflated hasn't helped either.
  6. Good day I finally took the Monaco Dynasty down the spectrac suspension in Gilbert Arizona for a thorough inspection and troubleshooting on why two chassis bolts are rubbing on the inner dual tires. I have no broken welds or cracks in the H frame they don't feel comfortable replacing the offending suspension bolt with a smaller head and the only other option is a tire spacer. based on the length of the lugs they can do a quarter inch tire spacer and see if that solves the problem but they'd like to help of the Monaco forum. where are people ordering those Tire spacers and if someone's put a quarter inch tire space on a 1998 Monaco Dynasty, where did they get it from and any part numbers would help. At ride height those bolts are not hitting the tire but perhaps when I'm dropping it down on the bags is when the tire gets marked. the inside tires have not compromised their integrity yet it's more of a cosmetic mark not digging into the tire or cord. Any supplier number or name or part number would be most helpful thanks for all your help.
  7. Glad you mentioned the one quarter inch size. I was trying to figure out how big a spacer needs to be ordered. Another post mentioned a half inch spacer but I'm not sure I got enough stud space for that. I'm taking the rig down to spectrac a suspension expert tomorrow for them to take a look at it. I'm even thinking that when I had the last tire change a while back, maybe they removed the spacers, because I didn't have this problem before. Thanks
  8. Excellent point. Didn't think of that angle but should have.
  9. Thank you much. Did you replace all fuel lines from the tank?
  10. If I can find one in Phoenix who is willing to do the work. I have called some truck tire shops and they don't want to mess with it. I'll call Freightliner Monday as well.
  11. Amazing to hear that slight 1/8 inch mistake on the axle welding led to the problems but you seem to have really had a grip on what it takes to fix it. I do see one other Monaco owner had Half Inch spacers and solved the problem but it looks like the stud size is not the same on all of them. Since my problem seemed to have developed since the last tire change I'm even wondering if somebody took off spacers that were on the axle to mount the new set of tires. don't know but we'll have it checked out.
  12. Thank you. I think my biggest concern is the 25-year-old fuel lines that come from the Dynasty fuel tank to the engine, in the channel above the storage bins and what is the realistic life of those rubber hoses? it's a big job to change them, I am sure. I would love to find out what the cost involved was for people who've done it.
  13. Carefree, Arizona, next to Scottsdale I think that's the ticket. I was looking back at some of the other posts and solutions and one gentleman had a half inch tire spacer on either side and I think that would do well and wouldn't cause the tire to hit the outside Fender at all. Maybe I can get them to order it in advance to save me on two trips. I like that other suggestion of getting a flush mounted bolt head countersunk.
  14. Sounds like an absolute bombproof fix. I use to have an airplane and seems to me, we used Teflon aeroquip fuel hoses that held up much longer.
  15. Thanks. I don't know anything about it. Would that be just around the engine or all the way up to the tank? How does that compare in cost to standard fuel lines, I wonder?
  16. I think that's the ticket. I'm going to have to get back under the rig I just spent about a week under there lubricating and checking differential oil but now but I wasn't looking for any cracks in the frame and oil and Road Grime can really cover up some of that stuff. I'll have to go back and do that and you're right, I never had this problem before with any other tires.. just since this set which is 3 years old.
  17. I agree but the first several leaks we had from that fuel line that went back to the fuel tank, were in a big bundle of lines secured by tie straps. You can't imagine a worse feeling than being on vacation starting to smell fuel, seeing fuel dripping down from the engine, and then and having to cut apart a bundle of lines and wires to find it! The one we just repaired this summer went through the metal loop on the engine to tje fuel filter and was wearing away gradually on that metal clamp. We have 142,000 miles on the engine so it lasted that long, but just not engineered well.
  18. We have a 1998 Monaco Dynasty and I'm wondering at what point do we spend the money to replace all the fuel lines? We have a Cummins 8.3 L engine and there's been a problematic hose that can split on weak spots, and leaks fuel . I understand that for some reason Cummins has a fuel line that goes back to the tank and pumps fuel in it. I'm not sure if that cools components of the engine or what but that line has leaked repeatedly and caused huge problems. if you're on the road and have a fuel leak, you might as well have dynamite on the rig. Nobody wants to touch it. Good Sam road will not respond.they'll tell you to call a fire engine and 911. we had a leak at a Love's truck stop and the mechanic wouldn't go near it it because it was leaking fuel, so I've learned to get small hose clamps and splined brass connectors from an auto parts store. It's a crazy situation because I have to have the wife start the engine to see where the fuel is spraying from. Then I'll cut the hose where the leak is and do an on the road repair. Other wise, we are getting towed in and a huge disruption to the vacation. We paid Freightliner $3,000 last year to replace that weak hose all the way back to the fuel tank only to discover this year, an 8-in section of hose was not replaced that went to the fuel filter and that was spraying fuel around a bracket. I have a picture of the connection that rubbed on the hose. So I just replaced that as well but wondering how much more I should do on an older coach. It presents a dangerous situation.
  19. I appreciate Tom Cherry's expertise in contacts he is very knowledgeable. I haven't done anything yet. just looking at options but we'll report back with photos and descriptions. I suppose I'll probably have to replace the rear tires as well once I get the rubbing problem fixed.
  20. An excellent suggestion and I thought if I could reduce the size of that nut bolt I could buy some peace of mind. I'll mention that to Spectrac when I take the unit over there. To drill that countersink with a drill press or heavy duty drill might be above my pay grade.
  21. Good question not sure the exact elevation. I may have had it higher than normal because I was lubricating the underside of the coach and checking the oil level in the differential. I'll have to check that out again when I have the rig out from our garage.
  22. I agree I'll probably head over to Spectrac. I did call Purcell's truck tire center in Phoenix and several others and they don't mess with spacers at all. all they do is change tires and sell shocks so I'll head over to spectrac at some point because I think it does need to be looked at. Just as a point of Interest I worry about anything rubbing on the sidewall of the Goodyear tire but years ago on our Safari. we had two michelins blow out because of a faulty valve extender and low inflation and the guy at the tire shop when we changed to Goodyear didn an experiment. he had me stand on an empty Michelin tire sidewall and I crushed it down, weighing 200 lbs. then he had me stand on a Goodyear that was just laying on the floor and it completely held my weight and barely went down. I was very impressed with the strength of the sidewall. Thanks
  23. Hi all I'm new to the group and find this discussion most helpful but extremely frustrating. I have also discovered the wear marks on the inside dual of our 1998 Monaco Dynasty caused by these same bolts. I can't imagine we're all driving around with crooked axles or a cracked H frame. I've kept the inflation of the inside duels between 90 and 105 PSI. looks like it's not wearing a deepGroove in the tire, ( I can catch my fingernail on the deepest part) but it makes me nervous as all get out because I know how these things can explode. I'm using Goodyear g70 RV tires 295 80r 22.5. I called spectrac, the top suspension place in the Phoenix area. they had never heard of the problem. he has no spacers on the Shelf. I'd have to drive 80 miles, pull the duels see what kind of spacers it could take, then he has to order them snd another trip to have them put on tagain. A real hassle but I may be faced having to do that. Can anybody tell me the approximate width of the spacers that will go on a 98 Monaco Dynasty that could fix this problem and pull the Dual a little bit farther away from the bolts. At ride heights I've looked with a mirror and I have about 3/16 of an inch clearance on either side. So perhaps when hitting a bump the tire has flexed causing it to contact the sidewall. one other complication we used to have a safari had an RV garage built to house the Safari in the Monaco's higher so each time I take the dynasty out I have to drop it on airbags about 5 in slide out of the RV garage and then get full ride height. I was thinking maybe that was causing the rubbing on the tires but I don't think so, it's such a short way. Thanks for the great site and information
