Are you running out of hot water or not heating the coach the way you want at any point?

We can use the heat pumps for heating but not able to use the furnace and not able to heat the bays. Need to use the electric water heat to provide hot water which is only available when we are plugged in

I would follow the logic of the above.  Past that....call AH.  They do a great job of over the phone trouble shooting.

I’ll look at that when I can access the panel.

  2. My AquaHot starts ups immediately when everything is cold. Runs a cycle but rarely restarts once the system is warm. If I’ve run the engine up to temp or if the electric water heater has been running, the AquaHot will not start up. The AquaHot switch light goes off quickly after being turned on and the burner fan does not start up.

I initially thought that the high temperature thermostat was not working, but I checked the continuity on it and that’s fine. I haven’t tried to jumper the low temperature thermostat yet but that’s on my list.

Anyone have any thoughts as to what I should try next next? We are on our way to our final destination in San Diego and the storage bay is packed with gear but once we get to San Diego I’ll be able to access the AquaHot again.

    Thanks for your input!

You wins the kind person award! Nailed it. The breaker was tripped. I reset it and it’s all good now. Thank you very much. I have a bug cover on the front of my rig so sliding the genny out is always a bit of work but well worth it this time.

Many thanks again for taking the time to respond! Much appreciated!

  4. I have never needed to use my 7500w Onan generator in my 2002 Dynasty Baroness although I have serviced it and run it occasionally just to run it. Now I think I may come to need it and I realize I don’t understand how it works and can’t find enough in my manual. Would some kind person take the time to explain to me what I describe below means? Thanks in advance!!!

The generator starts up and runs fine. I don’t see any reading on my AC gauges that show shore power when it is running. Should I?

With the generator running, the two AC outlets I tried had no power unless I turned the inverter to “ON”.  The microwave was also off but all the interior lights work with the inverter “OFF”.

Running a space heater with the generator “ON” and the inverter “ON”, the battery % charged level dropped pretty quickly (on the inverter panel) and steadily. When I turn the space heater “OFF”, the battery % charged level came back up pretty quickly with the generator running.

At no time did the generator speed up or slow down as if under different load conditions.

Does this sound right? Is the generator operating correctly? Does it seem like my house batteries are in need of replacement?

I am preparing for a trip where we might have to pull over for several hours for road conditions to clear and I don’t want to be without power or heat. (AquaHot runs fine but again, I have never run it without shore power)

Our toilet is also a Sealand Magnum Opus with electric flush.  Paul's new board rescued it!

Dometic purchased Sealand and then stopped supporting their products.  Paul spent countless hours reverse engineering the control board.

I'll tell him you need help.

I heavely lubricate mine with vaseline petroleum jelly, lasts for approx 6 mos

    Thanks. I will try that.

  6. The blade in my 2002 Dynasty Baroness toilet refuses to open unless I first force the manual open/close valve 1 click open after every flush. Something isn’t working right and I’d like to get a drawing of the workings or order a replacement but I don’t know if this is a Thetford or Dometic unit and have no model number.

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Nice work Patrick. While my keypad still works, a remote has always been something I was curious about. I will be doing this thanks to you. Great post with great directions.

    Russ,

Not shown in my diagram are the positive and negative wires for the control module itself. The module requires power on its own.  I wired these to the same positive and negative wires everything else is connected too. Good luck! It’s a pretty easy installation and having a remote key fob to unlock and lock all the doors, including the bay doors is very convenient.

  8. Hello,

The close codes 559, 557, 555 on the Essex keypad on my 2002 Monaco Dynasty Baroness stopped working a couple of weeks ago.  The custom open code still opens the doors but the close codes no longer work.  I asked for and received help on this forum.  The conclusion was that replacement of the keypad was required.  I wasn't thrilled about spending $299 (US) on another keypad, so I looked for alternatives.  What I ended up doing is installing a keyless entry system for a fraction of the cost of a new keypad which meets my needs perfectly.  This is how I did it.

The Essex keypad works by completing a ground circuit to the door actuator.  When the code is entered, either the open or close ground circuit is completed.  Underneath the cup holder on the passenger side is access to the keypad wiring.  Inside are two white multi-pin connectors and the reset button.  I made all my connections through the wiring on these two connectors. (see photo)

I purchased a keyless entry system from Amazon for about $22 CDN.  The keyless entry system consists of a control module, wiring and two key fobs.    I also had to purchase 2 x 5 pin 12V relays for about $7 CDN each.  Aside from crimp connectors and a few bits of wire that was my total cost.

When you press the button on the key fob a positive current is output from the control module.  Since the open and close actuators the Essex keypad controls work by completing a ground, a positive current signal is not going to activate the actuator.  The positive signal needs to be converted into a negative ground, that is where the relays come in.  A positive signal from the control module activates the relay, which is wired to complete a ground circuit when active.

The attached photos show how I wired things up and the keyless entry system I bought.  The nice thing is that the Essex keypad still works just as it did, so anyone can add the keyless entry system without losing the functionality of their keypad.

Look for the wiring diagram/colors on the Essex and test by grounding the Lock outputs at the back of the Essex. The Essex works by grounding a wire, which provides ground ‘signal’ to a lock relay. By grounding each of the lock/unlock wires you can determine if the problem is internal to the Essex, or something in the coach wiring.
    Cheers

    Walter

    Walter,

Thanks for the advice. I jumped the black wire (ground) to the white wire (unlock) and the doors all unlocked. Jumping the ground wire to the orange wire (lock) all the doors unlocked. This seems to indicate that the keypad is bad.

I haven’t removed the keypad yet to diagnose as I didn’t know if there were any user serviceable parts inside. At worst, I could install a push button switch that jumped the ground and lock wires as a cheap solution. It’s mainly the bay doors that I want to lock and unlock remotely, without having to go around and manually lock each with a key.

Do you think there any point removing the keypad?

  10. All of a sudden the Essex 1701 keypad on my 2002 Dynasty Baroness no longer locks the entry door or bay doors. It does still unlock them all.  I have reset the keypad and tried all of the lock codes. Looked at all the wires for loose connections but could see nothing wrong.

The keypad must activate an actuator. Does anyone know where this is located?

  11. While I was underneath my 2002 Dynasty this afternoon I noticed this square tube structure that runs from side to side below the crankcase.  It is bolted to the frame on either side and then dips down below the crankcase. It was touching the exhaust pipe and appears to have been bent upward, resulting in a crack on one side, as shown in the photo.

Is this simply an engine guard or does is serve another purpose?

  12. Hello all,

I am prepping my Dynasty for winterizing.  I will leave it plugged in to 30 amp power for the winter and plan to have a small electric heater running inside to keep it dry. I will have a cover over it as well as it rains here all winter long.

How do I best keep the batteries from overcharging and boiling out of fluid over the winter? Disconnect them? If I turn off the battery switches will the AC plugs still work?

    Appreciate your advice.

  13. My adjustable pedals don’t move and are in an uncomfortable position. Can someone advise me how to troubleshoot this system and identify the reason for non-operation?

When I toggle the switch nothing happens, no sound, no movement. I’m not sure where to start.

Is there a way to manually adjust the position of the pedals as I doubt I will alter them very often once I find a sweet spot?

    Thanks for your help!

  14. If you don’t see “furnace” on your thermostat display, it could be that the DIP switch for “furnace” is not turned on in your rooftop AC control box. That was my problem. I took off the AC cover (on roof), opened up the control box and flicked the DIP switch marked “furnace” and viola, it now appears on the thermostat menu.
