  1. I checked the transmission level before we departed and it was right on.  I can't check it now because the shift selector console will not lightup.  Also, as the manual warned me I would not be able to shift into to forward or reverse once I shut down the engine.  The service advisor said the transmission goes into limp mode which is what allowed me to get to Omaha.    I will check the connections near the transmission when the outside temp drops.

  2. On my way to north western Iowa on I-80 my " Check Transmission " light came on and I lost power and use of the Transmission Shift Selector.  We limped into Omaha and stopped at Interstate Power Systems.  They closed at noon but said I could camp here when I arrive until they open on Monday at 7pm when they will take a look at it.   Over the next 2 days I'd like to see what I can do to diagnose and fix the problem.    Any suggestions from the group would be appreciated.

  3. Update:  I removed the cover and was able to spin the motor shaft freely without any scraping or squealing.  Not sure what was causing the noise but it's gone now.  Ran the unit for 45 minutes cycling it on/off several times and no problems.  I Imagine I'm going to have to change the rubber isolation mounts as they are probably worn after 19 years.  To be honest I'm surprised both the 20 year old units are still working.

  4. Fired up the coach this afternoon in preparation for a trip in two weeks.   Everything looked and sounded great until I turned on the 19yr old Duo Therm Penguins on the roof.  The front 13,500 unit circulation fan immediately began squealing.   As soon as the rain clears in the next day or so I'm going to pull of the cover to see whats come loose.  Does anyone know if parts are still available for these old units?  I may need a new motor or fan.  I'd also like an exploded view and listing of parts available.

I just redid lighting in our Arctic Fox and used the items below.  A little expensive, but you would think you were in a TV studio if all the lights are on; they really brightened up the whole inside.  And the power required to run these lights is half of what the incandescent lamps used with twice (or more) the brightness.  We could get by with one 8 watt light while on solar, and still see quite well.

When I did the Discovery I just replaced the bulbs with LEDs to retain the factory look.  I used 6000k everywhere but the bedroom (3200k).  They still work on the dimmers, but LEDs are a little wonky when you try to go too low on the brightness (flicker or go out altogether).  Even though I used Chyneez parts they are still OK after 7 years.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0892C38J1/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=A67FFQ1POP4BF&psc=1  to replace the pancake fixtures.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07DQMVSRL/ref=ox_sc_act_title_2?smid=AXEJX2LGR9968&psc=1 to replace the fluorescent fixture in the kitchen.  Here I put 2 side-by-side.  Yes, that is way overkill.

Those lights look great!  My original plan was to remove the guts of my (8) 20" x 6" fluorescent fixtures across the length of my ceiling but haven't found LED's to do so.  Now I'm looking for a replacement fixture that will fill the 20" x 6" fixture opening.

I'm doing exactly that same thing right now.... but I'm reusing the fixture and just changing the guts out to LED....... and I broke one of the lens covers...sure would be better to have a new one rather than gluing together the broken one...

Where in FL are you? anywhere near Orlando/Sanford??

What are you using to replace the guts?

  7. Unfortunately my Trace Owners Manual V1.1 is only 39 pages long and does not reference settings for AGM batteries.   All it says is "AGM batteries are similar to gel cells and may be used in inverter.   I have made 4 calls to the Tech Department at Trace and they have taken my information but they have not answered back.  I don't want to cook $700+ of new batteries.

  8. Thanks for your input.

My Trace inverter only shows 2 battery types, Liquid Lead and Gel Cell.  I have selected Gel Cell since I understand that AGM's are very similar.   I have a call into the Trace Tech department to get their input as well as to ask them what other settings they may suggest such as Battery Capacity, Charge Rate, Vac Dropout, and Fuel Gauge Cutout.  I want to maximize my output without jeopardizing the 4 new agm batteries.

  9. I'm looking for advice on how to change the settings on my Trace inverter/charger for AGM batteries.

I pulled the trigger today and purchased new Duracell AGM batteries from Sams Club after they tested my 6-month old Duracell lead-acid golf cart batteries and they were all bad.  Have always had good luck with Sam's golf cart batteries for the last 20 years.  They typically last 6 years but these were bad after 6 months.  But the new ones seemed weak from the day I purchased them.  So, without time for research and not wanting the same batteries I decided on the AGM batteries.

So what settings do I need to make to the Trace 3000 watt Inverter/Charger with RC7 Remote Control.  In reviewing my manual it only gives me 2 choices for battery type:  Liquid Lead  or Gel Cell.  How about the other parameters like charge voltage etc?

  12. I am looking to replace the air intake hose that comes down from the top rear of my coach to the air cleaner.  Mine has a tear in it that I have patched with duck tape.  I have not measured it yet but I think it's about 6 in in diameter and several feet long.  I was unable to find it in our parts listing on this site and have searched for it at two diesel repair shops with no success.    Can anyone help me find a supplier for this hose?

    Gary B.

OK, I found a section in our Parts Listing  that gives me 4 sources for intake hoses to my engine air filter.  They have a lot of different types of hoses available.  What I am unsure of is what characteristics to look for in a replacement hose.  If anyone knows which type of hose to use please let me know.
