Cummins technical service bulletin 06T8-17 changed to 08T8-12A . High Flow coolant thermostat

Recommended Posts

2004  8.3 in My Knight and changing hoses and thermostat , Looking on Cummins Quick Silver and found Technical Service Bulletin 06T8-17 and it was change to TSB-08T8-12A.Has to do with a higher flow thermostat due to EGR Cooling . Old part # 3940632 new # 4930594. I have an e-mail in at quicksilver to order the right part.  Anyone else been down this road with this 8.3 and newer high flow thermostat ?  Always looking for cooling solutions as we are in a bowl in bullhead - fort mohave az and everything is uphill and can get warm fast in summer.

Not sure what I have.

I have owned this since 05 and this is the first time I am replacing engine hoses and when I pulled the thermostat and found the part # 3940632 stamped on the thermostat. QuickServe  via phone and e-mail have not responded or did not know ... I have the serial number and logged in to QuickServe pulled up my part # and that is when I noticed the technical service bulletin notice for that part .Was interested in less restricted flow mentioned and if that gave more trips thru the radiator and could keep coolant cooler? Today I e-mailed QuickServe and see if that thermostat applied in some way. .......Waiting

This Cummins 5273379 Thermostat is an OEM replacement Thermostat for Cummins ISC/ISL/ISF/K/NT 855 Diesel engines. This thermostat is the stock replacement part needed for a leak-proof change for the correct engine operating temperatures.

This Cummins Thermostat contains the following required Original Equipment Manufacturer parts:

180 Degree Thermostat
This Cummins 5273379 Replacement Thermostat applications:

Select ISC/ISL/ISF/K/NT 855 Diesel Engines
Note: If your ISC/ISL/ISF/K/NT 855 engine is experiencing coolant temperature gauge cycling, replace your existing thermostat with this Cummins 5273379 xxx thermostat. The new Cummins 5273379 thermostat provides a slower coolant response rate to reduce dramatic engine temperature cycling. This slower engine response rate does not affect the engine performance.

The Cummins 5273379 Thermostat on your ISC/ISL/ISF/K/NT 855 Cummins engine allows low-temperature coolant from the radiator into the engine to keep the operating temperature within a predetermined range. Operating a Cummins engine with a bad thermostat will cause the thermostat to get stuck in the open or closed position. A defective thermostat will cause the engine to operate either below the correct operating temperature or above it leading to an overheat condition. If you are currently experiencing any of these symptoms, it's time to replace the Cummins thermostat to alleviate this issue.

The use of Genuine Cummins parts means you get a precision design, state-of-the-art manufacturing, and diligent testing which ensures optimum engine performance at the Cummins factory-specified level. Only Genuine Cummins parts come with a full factory warranty, giving you peace of mind and financial protection.

This 5273379 Replacement Cummins OEM  Thermostat is for the ISC/ISL/ISF/K/NT 855 Cummins engines that are MADE IN THE USA!

So what is the 855 Cummins engine (ISC/ISL/ISF/K/NT 855 Cummins engines} as referenced above? The service bulletin also makes reference to a CM2150 ISL engine (The ISC and ISL CM2150 engines have a higher coolant flow requirement due to the addition of EGR cooling, and ONLY thermostat, Part Number 4936026, can be used by the field as a replacement thermostat in ISC and ISL CM2150 engines.)? Bottom line, will this part be an acceptable replacement on my 2007 HR w/a 400 ISL engine? My engine seems to run hotter than expected so anything I can do to get better cooling would be a plus for me!
