Thanks for the help. This forum is quickly becoming the go to for Monaco owners. It is about 18 degrees outside and snowing so I cannot check out the dimensions.  Maybe tomorrow afternoon. Thanks again.

"Monacoers" HAS BEEN "the go to for Monaco owners" for many years.

    No, haven't had it tested.

Testing showed what I thought was black mold in my ceiling material was "diesel exhaust residue".

It was the result of  a poorly insalled/improperly sealed joint between the rear fiberglass cap and the floor of the coach, (not by moisture)

I had a leak above our bathroom that that took forever to run down.  I have found that I have mold above the ceiling and need to find out what I can do to get rid of it.  The ceiling is vinyl with a 1/4" layer of foam rubber on top, with 1/4" wood above that.  The foam and the wood above is black with mold.   Sure hope someone can advise me on this.  Thanks!

Are you positive that the "black" is harmful?

I have had Directv since 1996 and subscribed to east/west coast networks.  Back then Directv add "rv" at the end of my account which justified having E/W networks.  Directv found that to be cost benefitical to RVer calling for a switching to a new "service location" several times a week.  I always thought the fee was for east coast.  My mistake as trying to reduce the constantly rising month fee and bad info from "customer retention" person, I canceled it.  Within a couple hours finding I lost both E/W networks I called back to get it reversed.  NO DEAL!  I was told that customer retention would apply to get channels 390 to 399 back but didn't hold out much success.  What is everybody else doing?  Ken Parsons 72707 02 dip

Distant Network Service (DNS) from DirecTV,  (855-774-3477 ), enables you to receive ABC, CBS, FOX and NBC channels from New York or Los Angeles.

If your main residence is qualified to receive Los Angeles/New York stations, you can also receive them in your RV, car or boat.

If your main residence doesn’t qualify for DNS, you may submit qualifying paperwork, (a completed  Mobile Vehicle Declaration of Intent form AND a photocopy of your vehicle registration) , to obtain the DirecTV DNS channels in your RV.

    Well Scotty

I tried the 5/16 lag bolts but un fortunately the #14 self drilling screws ripped enough of the wood behind the wall that the lag bolts won’t  tighten down. Any other suggestions appreciated.

    Gary

1.)  Dip  short wood dowels into  carpenter's glue... (or use an  epoxy glue).

2.) Drive the dowels into the stripped holes

3.)  Allow the glue to dry/cure completely.

4.)  Cut the dowels off close to the wall.

5.)  Use small drill bit to make a pilot holes in the dowels.

    5.)  Re-install the original #14 screws.

Mel, I'm aware of that from experience. I also know from experience that Michelin's warranty isn't very good. To warranty the tire, they must contact Michelin FIRST, get their approval, which might take several days and then THEY must send the tire back to Michelin. Sam's Club doesn't get involved with mfg warranty stuff as they carry their OWN warranty, at an additional cost of course. Been there, done that.  I got zip from Sam's and/or Michelin. I still like and run Michelin's on my coach but I disregard their warranty and take my chances that one is not going to fail, and if it does just buy another....Dennis

    Dennis

In 2014,  when I had 6 then 3 year old sidewall cracked Michelin tires replaced by Michelin Customer Care "under warrenty", they sent me to 2 different nearby "Michelin approved" sellers for a quote.

One was Southside Tire,  (in Schofield WI),  who quoted me $2800.00

The other,  (Pomp's tire in Rothschild WI), charged me $854.28.... ($794.28 for the replacement tires & $60.00 for new valve stems)

Mel, while I shop at Sam's Club often there are a couple of reasons why I won't buy certain things from them. It pays to shop around and tailor your needs to what everyone has to offer. My issue with Sams is they can/will order the tires for you but they will not install them. They also will not warranty the tires as they didn't install them. This may present an issue for some, or not, depending on one's preference.  I also don't want to pick up eight of these monsters to take them to another tire shop for installation. Convenience is worth something in my playbook. I checked out Series 31 batteries for my coach too. Sams was $4 cheaper per battery than Batteries Plus for the same product. However, Sams offers a 12 mo warranty and B+ offers an 18 mo warranty. I elected to go with the better warranty. These are simply my opinions and everyone's may differ. Our goal is to inform and be informed. Ultimately, the decision is ours and what's best suited for our individual needs....Stay healthy.....Dennis

    Dennis

Michelin tires are covered  by the Michelin Customer Service warranty....(not by the seller/installer).

Dave, in answer to your post. Yes, IMHO, joining FMCA is well worth for the savings on tires. They discount Michelin, Hankook and Continentals. I've had Connies and found the ride harsh so I went back to Michelins and I'm very satisfied with them.  Below is their current price on Michelins. Hope this helps in your decision.....Dennis

    Dennis & Dave

Often Sam's Club sells Michelin tires for a lower price than the FMCA tire replacement program  prices.

I found out that my chassis battery was dead after trying to start my coach.  We have a 2002 Monaco 40 PST and the 8D battery is only about a year old.  Unfortunately we store our coach without power and have to start the genset to charge batteries couple times a month.  I do have solar panel for the house batteries charge but found out the line going to the chassis battery didn't have a fuse installed.  Any ideas to reduce the parasitic draw of the battery?  Rich Cole

    Richard Cole

To eliminate parasitic battery draws: Disconnect/Unplug/Turn Off everything, (and anything), "battery powered" that is not being used or is not needed.

  10. BEFORE traveling to, (or being towed to), a service shop recommended by Coachnet, (or any other roadside assistant company),  get a phone number and call the service shop.

When I had fridge problem while on the road near Erie PA, I was sent 50 miles to a TT manufacture who used Norcold RV refrigerators but did not service/repair them.

When I had an engine problem in Indiana,  Coachnet was going  to tow me back to Altorfer CAT , in Urbana, Illinois , who did not work on motorhomes at their Urbana shop.

Hi, does anyone know where we can find a replacement back up light for our '05 Beaver, it's a sealed beam rectangular shaped bulb with no numbers of any kind on it.  I've been to auto parts stores and found bulbs of similar size but the glass lense  is too thick not allowing the chrome trim ring that holds the bulb in place to fit.  Thanks for any suggestions, Neil.

Methinks "p/n H9406 sealed beam bulbs" are exact replacement Back Up, (aka: Rear Flood), light bulbs for your '05 Beaver:

Someone on safarifriens.org will have the correct part number for that sealed beam light.

BTW you can slightly enlarge the opening in the chrome ring  to fit one of those "bulbs of similar size",  (with a Dremal tool)

With the four tags above can someone explain how turning off a station in San Diego my base plate breaks through the end of the rail on the chassis both sides and is left hanging by one bolt.  Torn off the bumper face, face plate, wiring and a few tubes and lines that got in the way.  >$9k later, no total on vehicle since its low milage and all the bells and whistles.  18,5k retail only $9k to fix.  Any ideas what was done wrong on the install 2 yrs ago by a hitch guy in CA or a flaw in the design of the 2014 or just Bad luck.  Anyone else have this happen?

    Joe S

Because they are paying a >$9k loss methinks your insurance company will investigate/find the cause.

I tried putting 315's on the front, didn't fit, it rubbed.  We are replacing badyears soon on the front.  Sam's Club sells the toyo's at a good price, but a very long shipping time to an installer.  Hoping to find a solution when we get back home and have the time to wait for shipping.  The badyears are new, not by choice since we were stranded, so keeping fingers crossed until replacement.

    Robert,

I had sidewall checking on an older (2009) set of Michelins but I realized that it was self-inflicted. I have tire covers and carry 303 Aerospace Protectant but was too lazy to use them. Once I swapped those out, I started consistently covering the tires when in storage (generally November to April in Arizona) and using the 303 liberally on a monthly schedule while on the road. Voila; no more tire cracking issues, irrespective of the brand.

Just my 2 cents based on experience...

    George C, 2005 Exec

    George C

IMO neither tire covers or 303 Aerospace Protectant can/will prevent any tire "prone to premature sidewall cracking" from cracking to the point of being useless/unsafe.

All 6 of my  2011 Michelin tires developed sidewall cracks in 2014: https://www.motorhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/10/Tire-cracks.jpg

They where replaced under warranty by Michelin Customer Care

I had to pay Pomp's Tire,  Rothschild , WI,  a total of $936.64, ($156.11 each)...$794.28 for the 6 replacement tires and $142.36 for 6 new valve stems.

BTW  the only other tire dealer near me "authorized by Michelin to do warranty work",  (Southside Tire and Automotive Service, in Weston WI),  had quoted me $2.800.00 ...($466.66 each).

I'll check again.  What I do see though is what looks like two brass contacts in the door jam near the hinges and I suspect that's what might be providing power to the door.  Also, I got to thinking and will also need to drop the voltage down to 3v for powering those lights.  I don't understand what they didn't set something up like the automotive industry.

I was dry camping a number of years ago in Quartzite AZ with a bunch of Monaco coaches. I ran my genny in the AM for about an hour and the same in the evening. At the end of the week the coach wouldn't start. Dead as dead. My genny started off the chassis batteries and Cummins told my when you start your genny it takes three hours to get your chassis batteries back to where it was before you started the penny. After that I have always run my genny for about 4 hours.

Perhaps your genset doesn't charge your chassis batteries...... (is yours  supposed to)??

As built by SMC,  (Safari Motor Coach),  only the engine driven alternator in my coach charges the chassis batteries .

Just did that on the way back from Florida to Tennessee. The furnaces don't have a problem operating while you travel. Some folks are reluctant to travel with the propane turned on. That is your call. Just be aware that you should turn the furnaces off while fueling the coach.

Those who are reluctant to "travel with their propane turned on" need to consider the fact that most, (if not all),  Schwan's Home Delivery Service trucks are PROPANE POWERED:

The biggest problems with dash gauges are the connections on the back of the gauge are loose.  The ground wires on the back of the gauges are daisy chained from gauge to gauge ending up on a ground buss bar on the firewall.  Loosen up all the screws holding the ground wires to the buss.  Spray them with WD 40 and tighten the screws up.  Clean up the back side of the buss bar with fine sand paper.

Gain access to the back side of the gauges and tighten up all the nuts.

Hopefully that will solve your problem.

    Chuck B

All of the individual ground wires, from each of my dash gauges,  go under one single screw in a "ground lug" that looks like this:

    spacer.png

That lug must be properly grounded to the frame of the coach.
