  1. Wow, that's a nice coach.

Just repainting the black exterior will not get rid of the checking.  As someone else mentioned, it's caused by the filon fiberglass siding outgassing.  Paul at Precision Paint in Bremen IN seems to have success in limiting the checking, but it's a $20-30k process.  Still a lot cheaper than replacing the siding.

In most cases changing to LED lights is just a matter of changing the bulbs.

My opinion: RV dealers are like old fashioned used car salesmen.  Verify everything in writing.

    Good luck!

  2. I've done a few inverter swaps, but it's all been Trace Freedom to Magnum.  Regardless, you have to install a new ground cable.  On all the coaches I've done there is a ground lug in the basement on the main frame rail back behind the inverter.

I had to slightly modify the existing mounts for the new inverter to slide into.

You also need a new inside remote and a new AGS compatible with your Xantrex inverter.  I'm not certain on the Xantrex, but the new Magnums required I cut off the RJ11 terminal (telephone cord) and reverse the plug on one end.  Wiring the AGS was tough, but I used Magnum tech support.  The battery temperature sensors are different.  I routed a new battery temp sensor on one coach but this last one I didn't bother.  Glenn at Magnum support said it wasn't worth the effort.

You also cannot max out the new 3000-watt inverter unless you install a new larger diameter positive cable back to the batteries and of course use a larger ground cable.

    Hope this helps.

  3. Both the mileage and generator time are high, but if taken care of will be fine.  If trading into a dealer, they will hit you hard on these.  Up to minus 50%!

Does it have the Cummins ISM 500, the Cummins ISX 525, or the Detroit Diesel Series 60 engine?  These last two were expensive options but the ISM is a great engine.  The Aqua Hot was also an option.  What about Eaton Vorad Smart Cruise (another expensive option)?

If it's 40' it will have two A/C's and if it's 42' or longer it will have three.

Check the slide out covers, the awning material threads, the air conditioners/heat pumps, the undersides of the slideouts, the locks on the driver's side front slideout (there is one front and one on the rear of the big main slide), the Aqua Hot on both electric and diesel, battery age for both house and chassis batteries, the HWH air ride and leveling system, the dash A/C, and the kitchen sink drain where it transitions from the slideout.

It is approaching the age where it will need some TLC.  I would budget $10k for updates and repairs.  Plan on doing most repairs yourself or double that figure.

    Best of luck!

  4. The Thomas pump is the quietest around.  They are used in dentist offices.

You can get a very nice used one for $210 or a rebuild kit for $95.

Or, you can replace it with a Viair but they are noisy.

  5. You can download your owner's manual here: Monaco RV Service & Repairs - Monaco Coach

Do you have the optional Inverter, or the standard converter? Regardless they are designed to charge your house batteries.  The alternator is only designed to maintain voltage when driving, not recharge the batteries.

Review page 170 as it explains your charging system.

NOTE: The alternator is not designed to charge
the house batteries from a complete
discharge to a full state of charge. The
    alternator will maintain the battery
charge during travel, supplying the DC
    current necessary to operate running
    lights or other DC loads.
If the house batteries are in a low state of
charge, it is recommended to charge the house
batteries with the converter/inverter or an
    auxiliary battery.

Caution: The alternator is not a battery charger.
The alternator is designed to maintain
    proper electrical system voltage. A
battery with a low state of charge,
or a dead battery, may overheat and
    damage the alternator.

    Hope this helps.

  6. Battle Born lithium batteries are popular, but are expensive and present a host of problems.  You cannot charge or discharge lithium in extreme temperatures and you should disconnect the alternator from them.

I installed four Trojan T-105 six volt golf cart batteries.  I found them at our local golf cart store for $129 each.  Some sets of Trojan batteries are lasting almost 10 years.

  7. These toilets were built by Sealand.  They are quality built porcelin toilets for RV and boats.  They were so good Dometic bought the company.

A residential toilet will not fit the flange and wouldn't work well going down the road.  Water from the tank would slosh all over.

One of our Monacoers has reverse engineered the control board and made it much better.  Contact PWhittle and he'll get you flushing again fast.

  8. I'd first try a thermostat reset.  Turn the thermostat off (small black button on the underside).  Hold down both the top and bottom buttons while switching the thermostat on.  You will see FF in the display.

Then see if the zone 1 furnace shows up.

If this doesn't restore it, then you have either a bad connection in the RJ11 cord, or the control board dip switches are not set correctly.  I'm guessing the latter as there should be several dip switches set to duplicate the original control board.

  9. Wow, that's a great find.  How many miles are on your N14?

It wouldn't be that difficult to remove the oil pan and roll new rod bearings in.   You could also check the main bearings but they are probably fine.

But removing the engine is a tough job in these motor homes and will be expensive.

I'd start by backing it up onto some homebuilt ramps made from stacked 2"x10" boards.  Drain the oil.  Remove the oil pan and then start checking and changing rod bearings.

You may have to remove the trailer hitch and starter for access.

    Best of luck!
