Cummins genny auto start

Sooo i just recieved my auto gen start from cummins, i uploaded the app, then tried to link the app, fail! Granted i dont have the unit installed, i was just trying to put the info from the module into the phone but no dice! Do i first need to connect the control module to the genny? Has anyone else had issues with the auto start app linking up?

im excided to get this installed as i have seen the potential this can bring. 
any other info you can share would be greatly appreciated.
