Gary Petersen
2002' Sig with Cummins 500 ISM which, has dirty coolant. The engine and radiator need to be flushed, and new green coolant installed. I plan to purchase the concentrate and distilled H2O, to mix my own to 50/50. How can I find out how many gallons of Concentrate to purchase before, I start this project? Thanks,
Jdw12345
If you replace with green coolant, making sure it is low silicant coolant, if you do not know. You should have one of these for reference. https://www.monacocoach.com/resources/media/manuals/2002_Signature.pdf Edited August 24, 2023 by Jdw12345
Gary Petersen
I especially appreciate the reference warning regarding the Low Silicate and the linked document which, gave me the quantity number (11 1/2 gal) for which I was looking. A big Thank You, comin' at You!
Jdw12345
Glad I could help! Fwiw, I use a Fleetguard product, ES Complete, with the blue label. The best thing you can do is educate yourself on coolant. Also consider carrying a couple of gallons extra with you in your travels, concentrate preferably and a gallon of premixed and if you have to add water to the cooling system use only distilled water, that would also include doing a system flush. https://www.fleetguard.com/s/coolants-chemicals?language=en_US#-
Gary Petersen
To make sure that I am getting the correct coolant; Does the Blue label ES Concentrated liquid, have a blue color? With the Fleetguard ES Concentrate, am I correct in assuming I would now use a "blank" filter.
Jdw12345
Hey Gary, Yes the coolant I used has a blueish tint to it. Yes on not using a treated coolant filter, a blank filter would be fine, you should test your coolant every 6 -12 months with appropriate test strips from fleetguard to confirm that it is still good.
