Bill,

Mt comment was for the following

Dometic Penguin II RV Air Conditioner - without any heat source 15K
640316CXX1J0 - Black

Dometic Thermostats
3314082.011 CCC 2 - White

 Dometic Electronic Control Kit
3312020.000

Soft Starter

SpartanStart RV A/C Soft Starter up to 20K BTU

I purchased the Brisk Air but found out it does not match the existing Penguin II bolt pattern.

For what it worth, there have been many studies and the more popular and widely used “soft starts” have no impact on an AC Compressor’s extended life….as in “preventing or keeping a motor from eventually needing a soft start”.

The need for a soft start kit occurs when the windings or the armature or the bearings or the compressor get older.  As they age, there is more friction.  Since everything is a “sealed” system and you cannot lubricate…..as they age or wear, then it takes a higher current to “start”…in addition, as the motor wears, not only does the peak or starting current increase….the time or the length of the high current pulse increases.

THEN, you start tripping the 20 amp breaker.  Also, some notice a hesitation for the compressor to kick in. THAT is the time to add the soft start….putting a kit or a device or a new unit in no way will help the compressor….and is not recommended.

There have been many threads and discussions here and the above is the gist of the conclusions…
