Several years ago my kwikee steps jammed out just before we were to leave on a trip. Doing a web search I found this is a common problem that most have fixed with a new Taurus motor, which I did. I didn't think it fit great but I did get us on the road. Worked fine for a while, until it didn't. Fortunately I still had the original motor and found a blog posting by Chris Bryant. The symptoms of failure for these parts are that the step will get stuck in the extended or retracted position, yet the step is still getting power Dorman 74410 Window regulator gear plugs, available at most parts stores or Amazon for less than $10.00. Basically take the motor apart, replace these parts, put it back together. As the plugs become obround in use they create a bind. There is a shorter version at 24 lbs. I'm not sure if the listed weights are shipping weights or product weight. May be other brands that are lighter but aren't rated for 330lbs.

I've had a little giant ladder for decades and they are great around the house, but too large and heavy for me to want to use while traveling. I don't know how much of a hole you have, but have you tried using super glue? I know you can shorten o-rings with it. A larger hole, maybe try carefully filling with black RTV to match the existing seal. Either way the part would need to be clean. If you look at the Splendid site look for a manual for your model and a parts breakdown, find the part number you are looking for and do a Google search or search at https://www.partselect.com/

I would think the Dorman plugs would be a better solution, they may wear but have give. I'd rather not wipe out the whole motor. I didn't think the Taurus motor I tried worked that well. When I took it off it still worked, the step didn't. TomS

Replace the plugs and test the motor. I would have added pictures but I didn't figure out how to attach existing pictures.

Face it, Yahoo is dead! Sorry Mel, but this site works better than the other two RV sites I use by a long shot. Could it still use work, sure (would like to see preview before submitting), but the work done to get it up to this point was great.

Didn't mean to confuse the situation, they way I read your post about Master tow made it sound like greasing the wheel bearings. I assumed the kingpins had zerks.

I'd like to make an observation of Daveyjo's statement: "The Master Tow wheel bearings require removing the wheel and brake drum to repack. My Demko uses a sealed maintenance free wheel bearing, but does have zerk fittings that you lube with a grease gun (a whole lot easier) occasionally." Years ago my fishing buddy bought his father in law's boat which had bearing buddy's on the axils. The boat was heavy and really hard to move around. After a few trips to a lake we decided to check the brakes. Pulling the drums we found them solid packed with grease to the point the shoes were always in contact with the drums. His father in law had always given a pump of grease before putting the trailer in the water and the hydraulic pressure ruptured the seals, that grease had to have someplace to go. Just lucky it never caught on fire. Be safe.

I would first check for clean tight connections and good grounds.
