  1. I sure agree with Ron.  We have been full timing for over 17 years and the last several have been tough.  Although we winter in Florida, 4 months, the rest of the time we are on the move, usually out west, rarely staying anywhere for more than a week.  We used to try to be fancy free and not reserve, but now we are finding we have to make reservations almost a year in advance.  Everywhere we go the campgrounds are full, some favorites are completely booked for the entire season!

  2. I would like to add to this thread as well.  We just finished up this morning having all our Girard slide topper fabric replaced and in addition our Girard window awning and door awning fabric replaced.  From start to finish this job was handled wonderfully by Stone Vos, Ingrid getting all the awnings measured, double checked, priced and made.  Then coordinating with TalinRV with Amy, an appointment that worked for both of us.  It was such a breath of fresh air to have excellent communication, clear and precise descriptions, all the way down to an excellent description of when to show up, the night before, exactly where to park, where the place to plug in was and what to expect.  The techs, Dustin and Mike did an excellent job, great attention to detail, answered any questions I had, and got the job finished correctly and ahead of schedule.  The awning material is obviously of great quality and they knew their way around Girard products.  From the quote stage all the way through completion, my hat is off the Stone Vos and Talin RV people.  We have been RVing for a long time and full timing for over 16 years, and as many of you know finding a quality spot for service is almost impossible, I am happy to report we have added another and highly recommend them.

  3. I like you couldn't repair mine, so I bit the bullet and ordered a set, the only way they come back in 2019 for $1750.  I lubed them up carefully and got them installed and one broke about 6 months later.  Thankfully they replaced the pair under warranty, but I did run an entire season with only one lock.  No problems.  We full time and travel almost continuously so I do know our slides go out and in more often than most.  Veruinks is where I got them.

  4. I just don't realize why in all my years and miles, I never had any problem or indication.

If the two battery banks are joined together while the alternator and the inverter/charger are both charging, the alternator and the inverter/charger are fighting against each other. It is better to disconnect the banks and let the alternator charge the chassis batteries and the inverter/charger charge the house batteries.

I can see this, but with my Big Boy system, I don't believe I can force the batteries apart?  I guess I will try to turn off the charger in the future, I am still puzzled why this all worked fine for years and years.

It also shares the same disadvantage that one has to make sure not to having your inverter/charger in the charging mode when you have the chassis engine running.

I have been having a few issues with my alternator, replaced it and the new one lasted less than 2000 miles.  It was replaced under warranty, but the alternator guy said he felt there might be something wrong with my coach that caused the failure.  I told him the original alternator was good for 160,000 miles before it quit, and didn't think there was anything wrong with my coach.  I saw your comment and wondered about it, I have always run the generator anytime it is hot to run my AC's and have never turned the charger off.  I have never had a problem until now, but I am not sure I even have a problem and wonder if it is as simple as the new alternator was bad??  Can you elaborate on your comment please?  Thank you.

  6. I ordered and promptly received a camera kit from Paul.  Today I installed it with one small glitch, and it had nothing to do with the kit.  It is complete even includes new hardware, and is completely plug and play!  We did it without removing the driver mirror easily, the wire slipped out and in with no problem, but on the passenger side we had to remove the mirror to get a better purchase on the wire and move some connectors around a bit.  The new cameras are fantastic, clear, nice resolution, small, unobtrusive.  Unfortunately it now shows how much the rear camera needs improvement.  Any ideas on that?  Thanks Paul for a great replacement kit for the side cameras!
