  1. We are still amazed at how many RVs only stop for ONE NIGHT. The campgrounds are full in the morning, empty after 11am and full again when the sun goes down. When we travel we like to spend at least a week, sometimes two in one place. Gives us time to see what each area has to offer, talk to the locals and find more 'stuff' to go see.....Dennis

  2. Ron, are you talking about the twin holder in the bottom bay? If so, those are standard filters from WalMart, Home Depot, Lowes etc.  One is carbon and the other is for impurities. I can get you part numbers if you need them. I also carry extra "O" rings so you don't have a leak. I got mine from Amazon HERE.....Dennis

  3. First question is; is this your original brake.? If so, it's not worth fixing. On my 96 Dynasty the exhaust brake was somewhat ineffective. I replaced it with a new PRXB directly from PacBrake. What a difference !!! I'm sorry I don't have the part number as my maintenance manual went with the coach when I sold it, but you can call or email PacBrake directly. They were very very helpful...... Here's their contact info...Dennis

  4. I also use the Flexzilla hose. Bought it at Menards. Doesn't come in 25' lengths though. 5' for lead in, I use it from the coach to the whole house filter, then use a 25' hose from Camping World. Both are good hoses. If I were to up the length to 50' I'd buy the Flexzilla. I also have the 100' Flex that I use at the house. Safe for drinking water. 100' hose was about 55 bucks IIRC......Dennis

  5. 30hrs @ $200/hr - $6k in labor cost. My guess is he just didn't want the work, if you persisted he'd still make enough money for his trouble. Find another shop as he would most likely have your coach forever. Sorry I don't have a clue on how big a job it might be. A lot depends on the configuration of your tanks. Mine is next to the grey and black tanks and appears to be a pretty simple task with the exception of the plumbing. The tank itself would be less than $500 bucks...Dennis

  6. Remember diesel engines work best when fed the right amount of fuel. Flooring the accelerator to climb a hill only wastes fuel. Manual downshifting keeps fuel/air mixture correct as long as you keep the rpms up. Basically the Economy mode is ONLY beneficial on rolling terrain. It reportedly eliminates 99% of downshifts from 6th to 5th according to Allison. In City driving your coach will downshift 200 rpm sooner and will waste fuel. I attended the Allison seminar at an FMCA rally and have not used the economy mode since. Just my experience....Dennis

How do you determine that the pressure reading is correct, or are the dial markings just a guide for setting at a specific position?

Paul, first you must understand the purpose of the regulator. The regulator controls how much force is exerted on the tag axle itself. Remember, your coach is a fulcrum with the drive axle being the pivot. Hence, the lighter the tag, the lighter the steer axle. The pressure regulator is used to maintain proper axle weight distribution ratios. In order to do this, you need to know the weights of each axle. Also, assuming your weights are within proper specs, it can be used to alter your coach's drivability to the driver's comfort. Say your coach is too light on the steer axle and you wander a bit with over-steering. A minor adjustment to increase the weight on the steer axle will give you a more firm feel to the steering. Caution must be used though to ensure you don't overload the front axle. Obviously this can only be accomplished IF you know your axle weights which is why weighing your coach is important. I will jump on the scales probably once every four or five fill ups. Cost is $12.50  and 15 mins of my time. Looking at my weight ticket allows me to do several things;  Readjust my tag, readjust my load or just go on my merry way. If I'm overweight on the front axle I can adjust the pressure in the tag to lighten the front axle. Conversely, I can lighten them both as well. Lightening the steer/tag will increase the weight on the drive axle. Just remember adjusting the regulator must be done in small increments. Be sure to "lock" the setting when you're through by pushing the knob down completely. Hope this helps....Dennis

  8. Thanks Paul, both of you, and Vito. All seems to be working ok now. I purged all the air yesterday and it worked this morning. We're stopped for the day and trust they'll work correctly tomorrow. Problem is we had a family situation and couldn't travel last year so the coach sat for the entire year. Now that we're traveling again the gremlins are showing their displeasure of not being mobile.....Dennis

    What is CAN communication?

Gary, it's actually CAN bus. Created by Bosch Electronics originally for Aerospace but now used in most vehicles. CAN stands for Controller Area Network. It's basically a central controller that monitors all of your vehicle's systems and routes the electronics accordingly. There's a more detailed and confusing description available but you get the gist......Dennis

  10. @Skier013 No I bumped it up as many travelers are not aware of the TSD benefit. Download their free app, no purchase or card necessary. Then, check fuel prices in your area. It only applies to diesel. We were in Amarillo yesterday and diesel at Sam's Club was $2.71/gallon. I fueled up at the T/A down the road for $2.44/gallon. Pump price at the T/A was $315.9. That's a savings of 71 cents a gallon! and a savings of 27 cents/gallon over Sam's.  No other discount can compare IMO.....Dennis

  11. Thanks Vito. The only thing that bothers me is the front air gauge doesn't appear to work when the leveling system is engaged. The rear shows airing up but the front gauge acts like it wants to work but 'clicks' without showing pressure. After I let the coach fast idle for a few minutes and press the travel switch, the green light comes on and the front air pressure gauge works. That's got me scratching my head. I'm good at mechanical stuff but air and computer stuff, I'm an idiot....Dennis

  12. Our coach has the above leveling system with the no jack option. It's been flawless so far. This morning I had a weird experience though. When I tried to place it into "Travel" mode, it wouldn't take. The red light flashed once then went out.  The front air gauge also would not function. I fiddled around with the air gauge thinking there may be a loose wire of something and nothing jumped out at me. I tried the travel mode again and it flashed and then switched to green. I also noticed the air gauge was functioning again. The coach did air up and we continued on our trip. There was no malfunction during our travels. This morning I had the same experience. identical to the previous one. My question is has anyone else experienced this? I'm thinking maybe the circuit board on the HWH is failing and in need of replacement. I wasn't able to contact HWH today but I'll probably try again tomorrow. We are settled for the night and praying it doesn't repeat tomorrow. Any input is appreciated......Dennis

  13. I replaced my second set of Goodyears with Michelin. 315s on the front, Goodyear doesn't make them and 295/80s on rear and tag. First set of Goodyears were fantastic. Second set began to river after about 35000 miles. Time to switch. I'm on my second set of Michelin's and am more than happy with their performance, reliability and mileage....bought all of them through the FMCA program and saved.....Dennis

  14. TSD ROCKS! We've used the FlyingJ aka Camping World discount @ 8 cents/gal in the past. When TSD came out with the EFS card for RVrs I applied and received mine in the mail. I was able to use it for the first time two days ago. Filled up at a Petro station in Milan NM. Pump price: $3.29 pumped 83.4 gallons = $275.15. Received my bill from TSD today---$239.24. That's a savings of almost 47 cents/gallon.!!!  If you don't have the card, please get one. If you don't know what it is, shoot me a PM and I'll explain......Dennis
