Our 2001 Beaver is Possessed?

Recommended Posts

I don't know whether to go buy a lottery ticket or hide in bed all day? This morning when I walk out to go to work at 5:30am my 7500 Onan in our Beaver Patriot is idling away? I just replaced the Xantrex SW2012 with a SW3012 which has the same wiring and I am running a Xanbus SCP (809-0921) to control, it is not suppose to start the generator as you are suppose to piggy back the Xantrex Generator Starter with the SCP to do that from what I read, maybe I am wrong? I have been troubleshooting my Esco 50amp power transfer switch as it is showing signs of failure so being it is probably old as my 2001 Beaver I plan on ordering one today. Any thoughts what happened?

Either the temperature auto gen start or the Xantrex default auto gen start.

Agreed, thinking back when I was messing with the SCP the other day I vaguely remember seeing Generator and "Enable" or "Disable" so must have it enabled, just didn't think it did that as on the SCP window I remember see battery voltage at 11.9v. Will confirm later today. Thank you.

I had the same thing happened to me last April and when I checked The generator auto start was off. Only happened once with my trace 2000 W inverter and I never did figure out what caused it. I have since changed that out to a Victron multi +3000 W inverter.

I wanted to do a update so maybe it will help others in the future, sorry it's a bit long.

About a month ago when getting ready to go racing with our coach I turned on the coach panel monitor to watch the fresh water level as I was filling the fresh tank I noted the Xanbus SCP (System Control Panel) for my Xantrex SW2012 was blank (no power). I went into diagnostic mode to see what was up and eventually decided in my mind it had to be the SCP itself as the SW2012 was acting erratic if plugged into shore power and reading in the Xantrex manual that it must have both terminator ports on the unit plugged or one terminator and the SCP plugged in (which I had), this lead me to believe my SCP died. At the time I figured out if it was not plugged into shore power the generator still charged and the race trip is a boon-docking trip anyway so we would rely solely on the generator and 12 volt power so our weekend trip went as planned. I ordered in a new SCP and plugged it in when back home and it didn't come on, I sent it back and figured it was the SW2012 so I found one that was listed as "NEW" on ebay from a seller that claimed he bought it new and kept it as a spare, it was a SW3012 slightly larger than my SW2012 but same hook up ect. In it went and my SCP still didn't work! At this point I should have known what the cause was as I found a 20' phone cable in the house and pulled the SCP out of the coach and plugged it directly in to the SW3012 in the belly of the coach and bingo the SCP worked, however the charging function on the SW3012 I just installed would not work and also NO power in the coach. This lead me to checking every wire connection I could, fuses, breakers , ect. Finally after all this I decided it was my automatic transfer switch so I ordered up a new switch and a week later when in I was in the same situation with NO charge and no coach power. At this point I had a revelation, this "new" SW3012 must have an issue? I spent an hour and changed it out for my original SW2012 and now the coach is 100% good again, that darn phone cable somehow went bad and I may or may not have a fight with ebay and the seller on getting that $$$ back on a supposed NEW SW3012, time will tell on that one as I usually never buy anything electrical on ebay and only did in this situation as the price seemed good and the listing was "NEW" but unfortunately from a private seller.
