RC2018 Posted December 29, 2023 Posted December 29, 2023 My rig has a 74" wide Sofa/Air Bed. The vinyl outer layer is delaminating from the base fabric. Has anybody had the sofa air bed re-upholstered? Did you have any issues? General cost? Any input would be appreciated.
klcdenver Posted December 29, 2023 Posted December 29, 2023 I had mine done at a local upholstery shop. I took the components off my self and carried them into shop. Just unbolt from floor and pull it out. It comes apart pretty easy. I had good leather material and about 800 in it.
RC2018 Posted December 31, 2023 Author Posted December 31, 2023 Thanks for your input Ken. I received 2 bids for the project from local shops and they both were approx. $1200 with me removing the sofa and taking the pcs to them.
Dads Dog House Posted January 1, 2024 Posted January 1, 2024 I also unbolted my Sleep Comfort airbed from the floor and dis-assembled it in place in the coach. When I took the upholstered panels into several local upholstery shops I was quoted $1000 to $1200 for labor, I had to provide my own fabric, those shops fabric prices were $60 to $100 per yard! I found some quality upholstery fabric online for $49.00 yard with a very regal pattern in a Burgundy/gold colors. Shop had fast turn around of only 5 days, good fit and trimmed out superbly.
Russell Posted January 2, 2024 Posted January 2, 2024 I want to follow this particular string, so I thought making a comment might make that happen. It seems that these sofas can cost $3K and upward of $4K so redoing the surface seems to be about 1/3 or less the cost of a new one??? We also have a 2003 motorhome. Our J-lounge couch has seen better days. I'm going to get new cushion foam because they are crushed and no longer firm, but this couch in ours, is either genuine leather or some very high quality facsimile. I've researched having it restored and dyed but the labor involved seems to be nearly as much as just replacing the entire unit. d
RC2018 Posted January 9, 2024 Author Posted January 9, 2024 Bump for this topic. I was hoping for more comments. Maybe I should shop for a new sofa bed? Any suggestions to best value suppliers?
Bobkat11208 Posted January 10, 2024 Posted January 10, 2024 When we bought our coach, it came with 2 still in the box new Rec-Pro cushions. The prior owner replaced the air bed with an actual mattress as well as the cushions. They set him 4 vice 2. I know they are brown-ish (?). If you think these might work I can take some pictures.
diplomat don Posted January 11, 2024 Posted January 11, 2024 I replaced the jackknife sofa in our old coach with a new airbed sofa from shop4seats.com in the L.A. area. They shipped to Washington. This was about ten years ago was around $1500 delivered. Came apart into 4 pieces to get thru the door. I was happy with it. Good luck, Don

Randy, Just to clarify, the 2 extra seat cushions I have are for the hide-a-bed on the road side. The jackknife sofa on the camp side is more beige/white ish and has 3 cushions, if that helps. RC2018 Posted May 7, 2024 Author Posted May 7, 2024 I asked about my sofa air bed being re-upholstered a while back. I removed it to have that service performed and found a drilled hole in the wall at the floor level with 2 wires sticking out. This is on my big slide. any body ever run into this?

Robertpk Posted May 10, 2024 Posted May 10, 2024 On my 2005 Ambassador I have the same 2 wires. Wiring diagram show them for an optional electric sofa.
RC2018 Posted May 10, 2024 Author Posted May 10, 2024 That could be what they are for. I don't have it plugged in so I haven't checked for power yet. I'm surprised they are not protected from touching each other. Thank you for your input!
Bill R Posted May 11, 2024 Posted May 11, 2024 Fuse may not have ever been installed if it wasn’t part of the package.
RC2018 Posted May 11, 2024 Author Posted May 11, 2024 Do you happen to know where said fuse is located?
Bill R Posted May 11, 2024 Posted May 11, 2024 Sorry Randy I do not. Check your manual though or perhaps someone may know. I recall seeing somewhere in my manual or drawings a fuse or relay that said sofa. I have upgrade optional equipment not installed on my coach that still has a fuse location with no fuse in it. Usually in the FRB or RRB or back by the main panel in bedroom closet.
RC2018 Posted May 12, 2024 Author Posted May 12, 2024 Thanks Bill. For some reason the wiring diagrams for the 2003 Diplomat are very elusive. I have only ever found diagrams for other models so I can't be certain those schematics are how my coach was manufactured. I'll check for voltage and terminate the ends for safety next time I'm at my coach.
