  1. Does anyone know if the TSD Logistic card will work in Canada? What I have managed to find on the internet suggests a different card would be required in Canada.
  2. To expand on what Richard is pointing out, on a 50 amp coach the shore power has two legs and the generator had two legs. Because the air conditioners are high current devices the manufacturer will divide them between the two legs (phases) of power. The transfer switch is responsible for switching power between the shore power connection and the generator. It must switch both phases so at least two double pole - double throw sets of contacts are used for this. It is possible that one of the contacts is not switching from shore to generator and that air conditioner is only receiving power when you are connected to shore power. Another possibility is that the connection for one of the generator phases is broken or has a high resistance at one of the terminal lugs on the transfer switch. The transfer switch and the AC power distribution panel should have all the terminal screws tightened once a year. I put this in a calendar reminder and go thru all the terminals when the event comes up. This can prevent you from having a connection overheat and cause a failure or even a fire. The first place to look is the transfer switch. If you are not comfortable doing this get someone who is and check it out. With a multimeter on the AC range you can test the power from the generator and the shore connection at this single location. While plugged into shore power the output of the transfer switch should show a reading of about 120 VAC on each of the phases to ground. Since both units work on shore power this condition must be true. Once you have verified this turn on the generator and again test the output of the transfer switch. If one of the legs is missing you have your answer. Start working back from there to the other side of the transfer switch. If both legs from the generator are live to the input of the transfer switch then you must have a bad transfer switch. If not then your problem is either in the generator itself or the wiring from the generator.
  3. Mike, I have developed a similar leak on our coach where both the tanks leak down in about 24 hours. Have not looked into this yet but I remember Van Williams chasing an air leak for days before finding it to be the treadle valve up front. I plan to look there first. If you have not checked the treadle valve you might want to give it a look.
  4. Merry Christmas from Bob and Pam Nodine to all our Monacoers friends.
  5. Congratulations Chris. I only completely stopped working about 2 years ago. It took me awhile to adjust to all the extra time but I have grip on it now.😊 Bob
  6. Walter, We purchased the panel angling supports from AM Solar for each of our panels not because we ever expect to angle them but because they make it much easier to clean the roof. When washing the roof we tilt the panels up so we can get under them to clean.
  7. I just took two more photo that shows the difficulty we had eliminating the openings where the shade meets the A-pillar. You can also see in the photos that I have added small sections of pipe insulation to keep the shades from banging when we travel. I found this to work quite well. Just cut a section for each end of the day shade if that is the shade against the wall and slip it over the shade bar at the bottom. The shade in the photo on the passenger side does not have a day shade because it is for the door. We now have this project where we can live with it but it had me worried at first.
  8. About 5 years ago we replaced the day/night shades with MCD shades through out the coach with the exception of the cockpit area. The wife wanted to keep the curtains so we stayed with that configuration for privacy up front. We already had Magneshades for the windows and windshield in that area. Last year on our trip out west the driver's side sun visor started acting up and we had to use sunglasses when driving towards the sun. That coupled with the fact that there has always been a large gap on either side of the windshield that the OEM visors did not cover motivated us to install the MCD shades in the cockpit area. Seems we always had the sun shinning thru that gap on the driver's side when traveling south on I-75. This was a frustrating project because everything had to be custom fitted. At times we felt like a 17th century gunsmith where all the parts were hand made and not interchangeable. We know there have been some who were able to install the MCD windshield shade without adding any guides on the A-pillars but we were not able to accomplish that. A friend who has an almost identical coach and who's work we copied also had to use A-pillar guides. One mistake we made was to use his measurements. We even cut a length of wood and placed it up into the windshield area to test the fit before ordering the shades. Even through our coaches look identical his is a 2007 and our is a 2006 and there must be a slight difference in the placement or size of the electronics cabinet used to house the entertainment equipment. When we tried to place the shade in the same position as our friend it hit that cabinet. Since the windshield is curved and we had to move the shade forward about 1/2 and inch to clear the audio/visual cabinet it barely clears the windshield. The increased forward position of the shade required us to use wider A-pillar guides so we could close gaps that would look ugly when the shades were closed. It also meant that we removed to much material from the top section of the A-pillar and had to make covers and use a board across the front to completely close of the windshield. So if you undertake a similar project be sure to remember that Monaco coaches are like snowflakes and no two are alike. Our friend used cherry wood to fabricate the A-pillar guides and any boards he added to cover the shades. He stained these to match the cabinets. This is another area where we deviated from our friend and thought the finished look would be more visually pleasing if we matched paint to the A-pillars. We have custom matched stain on hand that we have used for other projects in the coach along with a supply of cherry. Since we were painting and did not have cherry boards long enough to span the distance on the passenger side we used high quality pine boards instead of cherry. Getting the max travel positions set with the ignition on and off was also frustrating. We have two sun visor control switches on the driver's side that were originally used to control both the driver and passenger visor and a single switch on the passenger side to control the passenger visor. We used the driver's side switch to control the day shade of the windshield and the other two switches to control the the night shade. The day shade worked fine but the night shade was doing weird stuff and would not work at all with the switch on the driver's side. I finally decided that there must be a voltage difference between the two switches that was confusing the control module inside the night shade motor. After setting the max travel positions with both switches even through they were controlling the same motor it seemed to fix the problem.
  9. 2006 Diplomat 40PDQ and 2013 Silverado Z71 Crew. They are clearly listed in my signature.
  10. Bill, A few years back when I was still consulting with a major Nuclear Industry company we needed a battery for a special application in a custom designed motor drive system. That was about the time the news was filled with fire related accidents on airlines traced back to batteries. Upper management was getting jittery about placing a battery in the drive system. My co-worker and I did some research and settled on the lithium iron phosphate battery because it was safe when shorted out. You can even drive a nail thru a fully charged battery and it will not catch fire.
  11. Walter, We have four large solar panels mounted on our fiberglass roof with the sticky tape brackets from AM Solar. I was concerned about these brackets holding up but AM assured me they would hold. They have been holding the panels for 5 years now and about 50,000 miles of travel without any issues. AM Solar did suggest that each bracket be covered with Dicor to keep the chemicals used to clean the roof from attacking the adhesive.
  12. Makes me smile Mike because we once had a dog that could set off the LP alarm by expelling gas! We have also had to replace the LP detector because it aged out. Seem I also remember replacing the CO2 detector for the same reason.
  13. Guys, this discussion seems to be in the wrong category as it does not have anything to do with chassis and handling. Maybe needs to be moved to General.
  14. I still remember more than once pulling out an 8 track cartridge and watching the tape trail behind still attached to the inner workings of the player. This also happen a few times with the cassette tapes that replaced the 8 track. As many my age I dabbled in most of the audio media in the past century which included a reel to reel plus 8 track and cassette recorders. I would record my LP's on the tape media and play them back in the house or car to preserve the vinyl. I remember putting Willie Nelson on the reel to reel and listening for many hours before the tape ran out. More than once I cursed the needle on my Lab 80 turntable. Unlike many I have no desire to return to vinyl or tape media and definitely not vacuum tubes.
  15. (update Dec 2019) A close look at the Nason parking brake switch.pdf
  16. One of the hinges is about to fail. Purchase a new set now. See the post from shortround94. https://tinyurl.com/uueguyt
  17. We use this app also and find it to be accurate. You will notice that Pilot does not give any more discount than they do with the RVPlus Card, which is 8 cents a gallon. We have not been to a Pilot since getting the TSD Logistics card. Loves consistently seems to be the best discount. TA and Petro also give better discounts with the TSD card than Pilot. Like Chris, we prefer to use the truck lanes for better maneuverability. We do use the Sam's Club at home because we know what is there. It is tight when towing our full size crew cab truck but we can squeeze our way thru. When traveling we like to fuel at truck stops that move large quantities of fuel and have a fear of getting bad fuel at mom and pops.
  18. We would also like to thank Scotty for introducing us to the TSD Logistics fuel card. We have used it twice at Loves and it works like a charm. We also have the TCS fuel card sponsored by the FMCA but have not used it and like the TSD card better. The main reason is that you have to pre-load money into your account with the FMCA card and there is no way we see to avoid at least a $10 dollar fee each time you add money. That and the fact that you must estimate how much money you want to tie up in the account turned me off. Bob
  19. My signature had a very large photo of my mug and I tried to delete the post but could not find a way to delete the post. Deleted the photo from my signature and testing again. Bob
  20. Hi all. Dipping my toes in the water and wondering what my signature looks like or if it needs work. Bob Well my mug was a little large. My mug is a little large so let me see what it looks like if I delete it.
  21. Thanks to all! This is fantastic! Bob Nodine
