"2004 Safari Heating issues" MERGED into original 5 Button HVAC issues 2004 Safari Cheetah Topic

Interesting . . . .

On the roof AC's they daisy-chained the comm cables t'stat-->front AC-->rear AC.  But on the furnace(s) they don't show a comm cable at all.  On the basis of the AC logic they may have daisy-chained the furnace comm cables also.  This diagram says "All 04 Motorized" but only shows one furnace (for us 'lower echelon' folks 😉)

Definitely not worth tearing into.

Moderator's EDIT

Les, this is the third posting or topic for your HVAC and such issues.  This one is now merged into the original one...which was also MERGED.  Forum rules do not not allow top posting or asking the same question in new topics.

END of EDIT.

I asked a question about the furnace some while ago.  In the main cabin it is very toasty but I see vents in the rear part of the coach incl bathroom.......... what is supposed to come out of there..so far nowt.

Les,

Bottom line this subject and your HVAC issues has been discussed repeatedly.  You told me over the phone or perhaps posted that the PO or someone had glued or siliconed your 5 button thermostat and had, presumably, taken it apart.  If it was damaged or is "defective", then that MAY be the issue, but since that information was not included, many are trying to help with an issue that they do not have the entire history of.  This is frustrating...

So, to summarize so that the complete history, compressed, is here.

Your HVAC system has issues.  You have a defective, I think unit and you wanted to know what to do.  There is a long discussion about the options.  Due to your situation, you have not been able to address that.  All the options and the various $$ estimates have been presented and nothing has changed.

You obviousuly need heat.  So, here is the information that we need to prevent more guessing or presenting recommendations that have been tried before or such.

Go up on the roof.  Pull the SHROUDS.  Look for the CONTROL MODULE with the DIP SWITCHES.  I have enclosed a PDF...Look on page 15.  Check the FRONT UNIT.  The ONLY switch that should be on is #5 FURNACE.  The Front Zone, by default, is ZONE 1.  The REAR UNIT should be set to #2 or ZONE 2 "ON" and #5 or FURNACE "ON".  If they are set this way....then the rooftop control modules are SET PROPERLY.

If you have to make a change....then do it and go downstairs.  Read the LAST part of Page 15 or SYSTEM RESET.  Do THAT....

Then, test.  If you do NOT hear or the Front Furnace does NOT come on...then there is a problem.  Same for the Rear or Zone 2.

You said your Thermostat LIES.  If the Brain or the chip inside is bad...then it needs to be replaced.  However, since the past topics got into details about "HOW to DO and WHAT to use"....then review them. You stated that "You have a Guy (tech) who can fix anything or says he can".  He can connect jumper the terminals on each furnace....just google the brand and model. There are TWO terminals connected to the Control Module.  You could ACTUALLY do that yourself.  Look for the P6 Plug...see the wiring diagram at the end.  With the SYSTEM ON....  put a paper clip in the back of P6 on the TWO BLUE WIRES.  All the control module does is close the contacts...like closing a light switch.  Have your wife listen to the furnace....  do the front and then the back, while the shrouds are OFF.  IF BOTH WORK...then it is a problem either in the control modules or the thermostat.

That then brings up the dillema...which has been discussed....  Either replace both AC's with the NEW Penguins and a new 10 Button Thermostat and move on.  The options of using a cheaper RecPro were laid out.  If you want HEAT....then the old modules and a WORKING 5 button thermostat need to be in place.  YES, you can put in an aftermarket Thermostat.  BUT, just like the Penguins....if you buy the old model that replaces the 5 button....that will NOT work with a new unit and then you have to have the old modules pulled out and properly wired inplace for HEAT.

Yes, You can put in NEW Penguins....and use an aftermarket thermostat.  BUT, it has to be the one that works like the new 10 BUTTON.  There is NOT a single aftermarket thermostat that works with EITHER the OLD CC System or the CC2...

Let us know what you find out....then folks, after they realize the entire situation and the past scenario can chime in.
