  1. Monacoers,

On Sunday, April 19 you will receive the first "Bill D's Monacoer's Weekly Digest".  This can be in addition to OR in place of the current Daily Digests.  Again, you can receive EITHER or BOTH. The first issue will go out to everyone, and I will warn you, it will be large!  We've been averaging 30-40 posts per day, with gusts up to 50+, so you can expect 200-350 posts in each weekly digest. You can turn the Weekly Digest off before Sunday if you don't want to receive it.  Instructions below:

To chose what you receive, you can easily turn the Daily and Weekly digests on or off:

    1.  Click on your username in the upper right hand corner
    2. Click on "Account Settings"
    3. On the left hand side, click on "Newsletters"
    4. From that screen, you can turn newsletters on and off, and switch the formats between HTML and Plain-text.

    Enjoy!

  2. Jim,

You can control what content is viewable to other members, and to the outside world. Your Display Name is visible to all users.   Your last name used when you register is only visible to you on your profile page and the Moderators. By default, your real last name is NOT visible to other users unless you change your settings to allow it.  In no case is it visible to someone who isn't a registered user on the site.

The best way to address what you are asking is to go to your Account Settings. On the main page (Overview) it will show your "Display Name".  On the left hand side, click on "Display Name"  and you can set it to anything you'd like.  The "suggested"Display Name is your first name and last initial, but it must be at least six characters (excluding spaces), so "Jim A" wouldn't work.  That is certainly not a hard and fast rule, as you can see from some of the Display Names you see... Hotrod, Hypoxia, etc...  You are free to change it to anything you like, so long as it's not vulgar or offensive (not that anyone on here would, but in this day and age I have to say that...)

  3. Monacoers,

We love seeing pics of your rig in your signatures! This is NOT a request to remove your pics!!!

However, I need to ask that we limit the size of the pictures to 300 pixels in the largest dimension.

If you have a large pic and need to resize it, go to your username in the upper right hand corner, select "Account Settings", the on the left hand menu select "Signature".  In your signature, double-click on your picture and a dialog box will come up that will allow you to resize the pic.  Use 300 as the larger dimension.  Once done, click 'Update" to finish resizing, then "Save" to update your signature.

As always, if you need help message me on here or email me at scott at monacoers dot org

Don't know the mfg of the baseplate it was put on in CA after someone hit my front end. Mercury Ins paid for the complete repair then that was their insurance. Never thought to ask assuming it's auto specific it had to be right.

Joel, I'm no expert but I am a mechanical engineer with some experience with metal fatigue... understanding that all I've seen is your pictures and read your descriptions, I'm going to theorize that you may have had some metal fatigue in those frame rails from the previous accident that wasn't noticed by the previous bodyshop.  (even if you didn't have a base plate then - if you did that would heighten my suspicion!) Just a speculative theory...  but this seems so far beyond the usual I'm hoping there's a clear explanation out there somewhere.

    ...Purchase a Trouble Light...

Just a side note from a lighting guy... You need an INCANDESCENT bulb for this.  LED bulbs (and to a lesser extent fluorescent) are great for lighting; not so great for making heat. I would go with a 60 or 75 watt incandescent bulb. Even better if you can scare up a rough-duty incandescent bulb (they have a protective coating and stronger filament). And yes Virginia, you can still find them...

Shows how different these coaches can be from model to model. Our snap disk is located behind the white panel in the service bay high up near the frame rail. As you can see from the photos I got tired of removing the white panel and modified it. Also upgraded the water pump and moved it up to the ceiling of the compartment and added a surge tank.

    Bob,

It’s fascinating to see how different two 2006 Diplomats can be!  I know you’ve made a lot of mods, but is that the original location of your hose reel? I’m planning on reworking my wet bay this spring, - I’ve already purchased most of the components (AquaJet pump, etc) - and have taken a lot of ideas from pics you’ve sent me.

Have you considered removing the shower?  Mine has never had a hose, and is mostly a nuisance. I use the spigot to wash hands - I have a small hose running from thereto the rinse, but was planning to connect those with  a pex line with a ball valve and check valve.

I like the Daily  Digest.  What I don't like is that the posts are listed chronologically rather than grouped by post subject matter and then chronologically within that post subject .

Working on making that change, but it’s going to take some programming...

I like keeping up with things, and the daily is fine except for Scotty's daily post which, to me, not very useful   Please don't take this as criticism - I really appreciate all that Scotty had done and continues to do.  But I get this every day, which is pretty hard to digest.:

No worries! You can turn this off if you don’t find it useful!

    1. Click on your name (username) in the upper right hand corner
    2. Select "Account Settings"
    3. On the left hand side of the window, select "Newsletters"
    4. From the "Manage Newsletter Subscriptions" window, you can turn off Daily Digests or change the format to Plain-text or HTML (HTML is the default)

That will turn off *just* the Daily Digest, not anything else.

  9. Hope y'all are enjoying the Monacoers Daily Digest.

I thought I would share that there are some new settings for the Daily Digest that you can change: format (HTML or text-only), or turn off the daily digest completely from the "Account Settings" page.  To make changes:

    Enjoy!

History has proven otherwise. Waste of time and money re-gassing old RV rooftop AC units versus using that same money towards new units.

    JMHO

Agree.  Most rooftop units designed for RB use don't even have charging ports; they aren't designed to be recharged.  This means the tech has to cut the refrigerant lines and solder in both low pressure and high pressure ports, creating additional potential leak points.  Then find the original leaks and fix them, vacuum the lines, replace the filter drier, and add a new measured refrigerant charge.  IF you removed the unit from the RV and this work was done in a shop, it might be done well. Then you still have an old unit.

In my  opinion, better you spend the money to replace it with a newer, more efficient, quieter unit.

...or wait until @Hotrod and I finish designing our variable speed compressor RV heat pump and get it in production.  (🤣 You might not want to wait that long!)

  11. I had have the Wacko Products A/C silencers for about eighteen months.

It is a fairly simple install (maybe 10 minutes) and has made an appreciable difference in the noise.

I tested noise level before and after with dB Sound Meter app, and it went from 90 dB to 84 dB (both taken @ 12" from air intake.) VERY noticeable difference in noise level to both my wife and I. She can now hear the TV without it being on full volume when the A/C is running, and it looks a heck of a lot nicer than my 12 year old, warped, yellowed original cover. emoji6.png

I haven't noticed any performance impact in either AC or heat pump mode.

  12. Since I have a "lower end" Diplomat, I don't have an aqua-hot, and use the heat pumps as our primary heating.  We only use the furnace when we "have" to.

If we're in a place with 50a (or even 30a) service, the heat pumps are less expensive to operate that the furnace (esp if the cost of electricity is included in the campground cost)

The heat pumps have been extremely reliable (ours are 14 yrs old) and are quieter than the furnaces. (Note: I said "quieter" not "quiet" haha!) Plus heat pumps last longer when you use them...

IF I had an aqua-hot I would likely feel different...

  13. Gary,

I had a similar event about two years ago when I left my awning out during a wind storm. 🤦🏻‍♂️

I was able to repair it by replacing the 1/4” lag bolts with stainless steel 5/16” lag bolts of the same length.  I took out one of the existing lag bolts and went to the hardware store and got the exact same length and one 1/16” larger.  It’s held up for over two years now...

    Hope that helps!

  14. Joe,

You should be able to see all posts back to December 2019. Posts prior to that (back to the founding of Monacoers back in 2004) will be available in a separate searchable database.

I say “will be” as this is an ongoing project for me.  There are about 265,000 messages in that database over the 15 years it operated, and it has become a labor of love that’s taking much longer than originally thought to make that available via the web...

If there is something particular you are looking for I can search the dB and send you the results... I just ask that you be patient with me.😁
