  1. Hello Everyone,

The most common complaint we’ve gotten (at least once a day 🤦🏻‍♂️) has been the inability to click on a link in the Newsletter and read the related content on the forum.

As of today, I’ve reconfigured the site to allow you to click on a link in the Newsletter and read content on the site without the added step of logging in. Hopefully this will improve everyone’s experience with the site.

Please continue to share your comments and suggestions about the site. We continue to grow and have added a lot of members since the beginning of May.

Two items I’m still working on...

    1. Sorting the Newsletter by topic (so all posts in a thread appear together.)

    2. Adding the massive database of messages from Bill D’s Yahoo group. This has become a science project. 😂. Anyone with database experience that wants to chime in and help would be greatly appreciated. 😉

    Keep on motorhoming!

  2. Hal,

You’ve posted it in the correct place.  You can always contact a moderator though the “Contact Us” link at the bottom of the webpage.

When you seek the coach and are ready to remove the posting, just message the moderators and we’ll remove it.

    Regards,

    Scotty

  3. Bob, my understanding after reading up on the technology is that it’s not a tracking satellite antenna. It’s more like XM than DirecTV in that regard.   According to the literature it can be used in motion.  From SpaceX:

SpaceX shared that the ground terminals "look like a small to medium sized pizza box" and that they WOULD work while mobile and mounted on boats, planes, and other vehicles - with no need for aiming required as long as the receiver was "reasonably pointed to the sky"

Again, if they do what the advertising says, it will be very popular with RVers!!  But the realist side of me says we’re getting the best case scenario - reality might not be quite as good, but even if it’s not all that and a bag of chips, it will likely be better than the current cellular options.

I currently have the TOGO Roadlink C2 (Winegard) unit, and really like it (the AT&T service is good, and the $360/year unlimited internet is great) but the price for service will almost triple - and I’ll lose the true unlimited internet -  in October when my current annual subscription runs out.

I’ve been working from my RV a lot more lately, and need good internet for that and for streaming TV, so I try to stay on top of the “latest and greatest” internet service for RVs.

Do any of you test the pedestal outlet before plugging in?  I made a tester using a short 50A plug and a two-gang outlet box (separating the two “legs”) and allowing use of a simple Greenlee plug-in tester to identify any polarity, open neutral or ground issues before plugging in and relying on my Hard-wired SurgeGuard ATS/Surge Protector.

I do.  Richard Smith @Dr4Film makes a really nice pedestal checker that's easy to use.  I only got it in February and it's already saved my bacon once.

Richard - you might want to put info about your pedestal checker in the Vendor section! You should use the motto "30 seconds can save you $30,000!"

Pffft!  right after I posted this I saw where Richard had just posted info on it... 🤦🏻‍♂️

  5. I've used a similar product to what Nick @K9 Exec used 👆🏻, purchased from Home Depot.  I had some "suspicious" looking crud in my evaporator pan when I was cleaning it.  Once I cleaned the coils, wiped the evap pan with Clorox wipes, and dried out the mess I made  in the coach 😐 (Hint, put some plastic and/or towels down under your AC units in the coach), the smell was gone, replaced for a day or two by the Clorox smell, then nothing.  That was two years ago and no recurrence since...

    Hope that helps...

I have never been impressed with any satellite Internet service in the past due to the latency factor...

Their website states 25ms latency - which is comparable to cable or slightly worse than fiber, and better than cellular.  They are also advertising  610 Mbps speeds, which is about 50x most cellular connections and on-par with the best cable and fiber options.  All for "around" $80/month.

IF they can do what their advertising says 🙄, it'll be awesome.

...and FWIW, I signed up to be a beta tester... 🙂   Just so I can give first-hand reports to Monacoers!! 🤣

Installed LED lighting in the outside door handle. Replaced the porch light with motion sensing. Added LED lighting under the kitchen and living room slides.

    Mike,

Would love to see a little more info about wiring the LED lighting under the kitchen and living room slides.  I've been thinking of doing that, but struggling with where to run the wiring and what circuit to connect to.

Also any insight about installing the LED lighting in the door handle.  Was wiring already present? Or nearby in the passenger side panel?

    Thanks,
    Scotty

That's interesting, Bob.  Maybe we can meet someday and I can see this setup.

I vote we have a “2006 Diplomat Rally” and Bob and others can teach us about our coaches! I’m only half kidding... 😉😂. I’ve learned a tremendous amount from Bob.

Of course, Bob is usually at the Gathering, too...

Scotty, where did you get all of these supplies?  I've been considering setting mine up the same.

Propane quick-connects, brass fittings, and grill adapter came from propanegear.com

Black iron pipe and RectorSeal #5 Pipe Thread Sealant (yellow) came from Ace hardware.

The only thing I would do differently next time is use a brass 3/8” close hex nipple instead of the 3/8” close black nipple.  You can get a wrench on the hex nipple to tighten it; not so with the black iron close nipple without damaging threads.

Checked for leaks, then cooked the first meal on the grill tonight!  Success!

  10. Just a little additional add...  and this is second hand stuff I recall from @throgmartin...

I use Biobor and Opti-Lube, much the same as @Tom Cherry

I recall from the gathering two years ago that Chris Throgmartin was discussing the lubricity of diesel fuel when our engines were originally designed versus the lubricity of current formulations of ultra-low sulfur diesel (ULSD)...  in short, current ULSD does not have the same lubricity, and additives increase the lubricity, which makes the lubricity of the fuel closer to what our engines were designed for...

if I can find my notes from that session I’ll post them here.

  11. I HAVE GAS!!!

Thanks everyone for the help and suggestions.  Here’s a pic of the finished project.

    Materials List:

    1/2" BLK TEE

    1/2"X3/8" BLK BUSHING

    3/8" CLOSE BLK NIPPLE

    3/8” PROPANE QUICK CONNECT BRASS

    1/2” 90° BLK ELBOW

    1/2"X1/4" BLK BUSHING

1/4" MIP X CLOSE HEX NIPPLE BRASS

1/4” RV PROPANE QUICK CONNECT BRASS

RectorSeal #5 Pipe Thread Sealant  - yellow (approved for propane & natural gas)

A smattering of elbow grease and a few drops of blood from skinned knuckles...

I also purchased a 24’ 1/4” propane hose with quick disconnects and an adapter for my Coleman Roadtrip Grill  (see earlier post).  I have yet to purchase the 3/8” hose for my fire pit, but seeing that it’s 80°F+ today and a low in the mid 70’s tonight, I might not need that yet...

  12. Follow-up #1.  Got the quick disconnect, etc. to tie in to the coach’s prep fitting, quick connect propane hose (24’), and an adapter for my Coleman grill that eliminates the regulator. I like this because I can still use the grill with the original regulator with 1lb bottles (or 20# tank and hose).

I also got a wye and a second hose so I can run the grill and fire pit at the same time.  I’ll post pics and a parts list when it’s all done.

Easy to install C 2 Swivel Adapter.

  13. Thanks Jason.  Great suggestions.

    - The newsletter app developer is working on grouping by topic, but she says this will be several weeks.  I’ve attempted to modify the scripts, but realized quickly that I’m not a programmer.  We will have this, but I’ll have to wait on the developer to add this feature.

-I’ll check on the picture loading.  I’ve noted this also.  I wonder if turning off the lazy loading (thats an option) of pictures on the site will correct this??

I’m always open to ideas; if you are knowledgeable in these areas I’ll accept any help I can get!!

    Scotty

PS - I turned off lazy loading of images.  We’ll see if that helps the newsletter.  If not, I’ll turn it back on later...

...I do need to invest in some blocks.  What do you use?  Where do you place them?  Thanks.

I bought a pair of 12 ton jack stands. The most weight I have on any corner is 9,600 lbs, so the 12,000 lb per jack rating seems sufficient. I place them under the frame rails.
