  1. First off I want to say thank you to all who haved helped me on this journey so far. It's been fun and frustrating at the same time and I'm probably going to need some therapy after I get all the bugs worked out of this coach. 🙃 So.....after the coach being plugged in for several weeks at home. I decided to go weigh it and try to figure out what the actual weights were and to adjust my pressures accordingly. I started my drive yesterday to get the motorhome closer to my work because my apartment lease is up at the end of this month. I turned on the invertor to run the fridge and nothing else.. About half way through my drive I stopped at a rest area and stretched my legs.....I took a picture of my gauges and noticed the volts were below 13. I figured it would go back to charging once started driving. I get about 40 miles from the camp site and I could see the gauge move. Lower and lower it went. I get off my exit and I was below 11 volts. I noticed the trans starting shift differently (low voltage) and hoped I would make it. I get checked in and get just in front of the parking pad.....no shifting. I used my jumper cables to connect house and chassis batteries and boom.....she shifted. I get her into the parking spot and hooked up shore power. Extended slides, and turned on the heat pump. I left and came back a few hours later and everything was dead. My charge controller showed no indication of charging. My xantrex invertor usually shows either bulk charge, float charge or absorption. I tried to turn everything back on but when I enable operation mode.....for whatever reason it says low voltage and shuts down.. I checked the reset buttons on the invertor itself. All seemed fine. There are 5 total.....two hidden on the back and 3 large black resets on the front. I turned everything off and went to the apartment to get some sleep and when I get back here this morning.......it's back on. Even my maintainer shows charging on the display now. I have my handy dandy fluke and I'm safe at this campsite until Sunday. Then I have to move again. At the moment .....I have heat pumps working front and back. I have a lamp turned on , the water heater on, the TV and DVD player on. The fridge is on , the microwave has power and the floor heater is set at 78 and working.

Thank goodness I still have an apartment up here. I should probably start a new thread on this. This is the second time it's done this.

295/80/22.5 toyo......I have a little deeper issues at the moment. Just came back to the motorhome and everything is dead. Even hooked to shore power my batteries aren't charging

I will do another re-weigh this weekend. I should have done it earlier but I encountered another problem on the way to the camp site. I'll install a new pressure regulator since I'll finally be able to spend more than an hour or two at a time working on it. The little bit I added to the tag pressure made a huge difference.

So I drove about 130 miles with tag at 40 psi ....drove ten times better. I adjusted to pressures to your specs. And yes, you're right 13k on the steer. Now I just have to figure out why my alternator quit charging half way.

I've been following your advise quite a bit. I can't imagine loading 9k worth of stuff inside this coach. Why is pressure so low in the tag? I was under the impression that low air pressure was not good for these tires.....I'm about to move her back to the job site my apartment lease is up next week so everything is turning out as planned......fingers crossed ..... Yes...14 on the steer

I finally had a chance to weigh my coach today. I filled the fresh water tank and filled the diesel tank. The lp tank is 85% full and I have just about everything I need loaded. The steer came in at 11500, the drive at 22460 and the tag at 3000 ( 35psi) .....the tag behind the drivers seat indicates the coach weighs 46k......what am I missing? I inflated the steer to 95 the drive to 95 and the tag at 90......
  8. Congrats on your purchase! I'm a newer owner of an old coach too and for what it's worth, make sure everything is "roadworthy" first . Tires, engine, wheel seals, brakes......Tires were my main concern.....After several months of basic repairs , I'm finally ready to tackle some if the "upgrades" you mention.
  9. The idea of loading and unloading a Harley out of the bed of a truck isn't my idea of fun but I see now there have been advances in technology. I like the self loading ramp. I never even thought about that. Another question is a supplemental braking system......I've never towed anything but a cj5 flat before.......is a braking system necessary?
  10. I've been considering buying a car hauler for my coach. I have a sterling tow bar that was on my MH when I bought it along with a base plate for whatever vehicle the previous owner had. I really like the idea of flat towing my 2016 gmc sierra but I also want to be able to take my motorcycles when I want. What about tire wear on my truck? A car hauler would fit the bill with a little modification adding a motorcycle ramp on the front. Is anyone else just using a trailer instead of flat towing? The truck weighing roughly 5200 and a trailer weighing 3600......that's a lot of strain on a 20 year old engine and trans already pushing 46k down the road. I just wanted to get some input on some ideas.
  11. John, did you ever find your diagnostic port? I remembered reading this today and I just happened to find mine under the dash tucked up to the left of the steering wheel. Yours should be similar to mine. Trans, engine and ABS are mounted right beside each other. I also have a port in the engine bay too. Hopefully your new mechanic will get you on the road soon.
  12. My coach has Bose surround sound throughout. The bass is under the sink and speakers outside in a lower bay....but I have NO clue how they turn on......I have a remote for it but it's not turning on anything. I have this satellite thingermabob...(technical term) in the overhead front cabinet with all kinds of wires going to it....counting all of the video, tv and elec remotes earlier.....9 total.
  13. Spot on. Ace hardware had it. 25 bucks but hey, it's fixed now. I hope other people with older coaches read this post and look at the pictures .....I got lucky. I could have easily had a huge fire. 240v aching inside a fiberglass and wood motorhome is a rolling bomb. If I was rolling down the road and had everything turned on and she caught fire.....I wouldn't know it until it was too late.
  14. And you put a reman/refurb in right? Be on the lookout for a spare....lol Good job 👏 👍
  15. My nickname isn't "hard luck Chuck" for nothing...... I did.....I just finished. The only breaker I didn't replace was the 50amp single....I couldn't find one. I will just leave it off for now.
  16. Man!!!! Lucky isn't the word for it.....Found the same box at home depot. 68 bucks....easy swap. The 50 amp single is for the floor heater.
  17. A few of the other breakers look bad. I'm just gonna replace the whole box. If you look at the contact strip on the box itself , it's been arching for a long time. Half of the contact face is gone
  18. Well.....I finally made it home and the MH is really cold inside. I opened the electrical box and took breakers out to find this home depot....here I come!
  19. Considering everything they did , that's not too bad. I'm sure the parts alone were 2000.
  20. Update.....I had a few hours last night to go home due to the weather. I did what you guys suggested and cut all power off at the main box in the bedroom. When I cut everything back on I heard the "crackling" again..... I shut it down then took the main fusebox cover off and tried it again......sparks galore! The breakers are arching to the main strip. Several are discolored on the backside. I will be replacing all of the breakers and all of the original outlets. Who knows what could have happened if I would have left the coach plugged in all week.
  21. Ugh.....dump trucks with those magical bouncing rocks
  22. Yea.....that's what I was thinking. That's not good. Your rocker arm bolts are all loose? Head bolts are tight though right? It looks like you have metal on those threads. Without trying to crank the engine , I'd spin the engine over with a big ratchet and check my valve lash. I'm not sure what engine you have ....5.9?
  23. The headlights look great. After spending 5k on tires , I'm on a pretty tight budget for now so I'll have to use the old lemon and baking soda trick to clean up my dingy headlights. 😁 I think they're from caddy sevilles? Like 98-2003?
  24. That sounds more like it. On the older mechanical 5.9.....pressures were 20k. I don't think it's an underlying issue either. Again....good job!
  25. Awesome job! You're the man!! What's the actual pressure on that rail supposed to be.....just curious
