  1. I did, I couldn't believe how much soot was inside the burn chamber. I probably removed 2lbs of soot. I also replaced the electrical element and 2 thermostats along with the nozzle and rubber grommets. The electrical element was a tough. Over the years it had bent upwards and seperated but after a few choice words and a little blood, it finally came out. She runs like a top now.
  2. I just finished rebuilding my unit. Follow docs advise and download the manual and understand how the unit works before attemping to repair.
  3. I've noticed the fan running all the time now and after reading several posts, I'm pretty sure it's the "wax valve" and before I order a new one I'd like to make sure I get the right one and I want the engine to run at the correct temp. Mine dosent have any numbers on it. 2001 Exec 500 cummins....normally runs around 185° , as far as I can tell on my gauge. I'm just repairing one thing at a time as money is kinda tight right now.
  4. Flight systems did not have a control board for my 10kw onan last year but the lead engineer told me they were in the works on designing one. So i ordered a new board from onan . He called me back a few days later and told me they had one prototype and they would sell it to me for 1/2 the cost of what they will be selling a new one for (300). I tried to return the one from onan but they have a no return policy on electrical parts. Flight Systems really came through for me. So I have been using the prototype for the last year and no problems as of yet. I just put the one from onan in my spare parts box.
  5. Mike , when I bought my coach I had a similar problem and found that the contacts in the breaker box were worn. With the advise from the guys here, I replaced the box and the breakers. Everything I needed was available at home depot.
  6. Has anyone sat down and calculated how much fuel is consumed under a semi load on their generator? I'm running my fridge and 1 a/c and I was just curious if my numbers were right. I'm seeing about 1/2 a gallon per hour. I'm sure it's in print somewhere but I'm not finding it. Does that sound about right? At 6 bucks a gallon it's kinda expensive.
  7. Both of my pressure switches are exposed on the firewall. 01 Executive. I believe it was your posts that I read. Was one normally open and the other closed? I will do some more tests and study up on the schematics when I get home from work. Thanks for the info.
  8. Yes, my brake lights work fine.
  9. Hi guys, I've been doing some traveling overseas for a while but I've been reading some posts from time to time. I remember reading someone's post about cruise control problems and 2 pressure switches on the firewall in the Jenny compartment. The post stated that one switch is N/C and the other is N/O..... that should be why my cruise dosent work because they both test N/O.
  10. I'm sure this question has been asked more than once. My city water hook up has not worked properly since I bought my MH. When I hook it up you can hear water go into the tank for a minute then it starts flowing out of the overflow tube. I'm pretty sure there is a check valve somewhere but can someone give me a starting point on where to look? It's an 2001 sig executive. My water pump works fine, I just never really used the city water because I've had so many leaks , I wanted to get all of those stopped first.
  11. Been down that road plenty of times in a small truck but not in a motorhome. Long drive with not much around. Make sure you fuel up beforehand.
  12. Good question. When I bought this Exec. I was looking for a pull behind. The quality of travel trailers just wasn't up to my standards and I looked for months to find something to fit me. I actually found this coach on the back lot of a dealer who didn't want to spend any more money on it. I knew I should have had an inspector look at it before I bought it, but I figured at the price I offered for it , I could fix whatever was wrong with her and still have my head above water. The travel trailers at my price range were roughly the same as this monster .....so I took the plunge and I haven't regretted it since. I love this this coach. Sure she's old and has multiple problems, but nothing I can't fix. If I had my choice of coaches? I love a dynasty....... and the 08 Sig Cambridge quad slide is just beautiful to me. But for now, my Exec will do.....
  13. Not approved by "The green New Deal"
  14. Check your oil. If you have diesel in the oil......probably injector.
  15. I stopped and talked to a guy close to where I'm staying and he just bought 2 abandoned mobile home parks. 90 spots in this one close to me. He said just the electrical portion of the investment is 1800 a pad. The trend will end soon if gas and diesel keep going up. I paid 300 for 1/2 a tank of fuel yesterday.
  16. I just replaced my contacts on my 01 executive. The cargo doors would lock but not the entry door. Veurinks RV has most of these parts. The actuator for my system is in the front run bay.
  17. I had the same problem on my 2001 executive. sg47619 is right, the little magnets either are not making a good connection or one is missing.
  18. Exactly 💯! You wouldn't have that link would you?
  19. I've been looking for led strips to replace the burnt out ones in the grab handle and the entry steps. Does anyone have any ideas where these can be found? I can find plenty of USB leds but no 12v dc hardwire that are in it now. Maybe my search isn't including the right name. I will eventually redo the entry steps and I just replaced the carpet, but for now I'd just like the lights to work.
  20. I use blocks of wood. Raise my bags all the way up and stack as much wood under it as I can. I've had my suspension drop while I was under it greasing the slack adjusters and linkage ....scared the crap out if me. Luckily I was near the front and the generator was out at the time.
  21. I'd like to be able to run a few things overnight or a day if I had to without cranking the generator. This is the compartment I was talking about....it's in the rear closet but it could be vented to the outside. I could fit several batteries in there. Roughly 2' x 2'
  22. That's about the length of time I'm looking for . After reading past posts I know I need to switch to the ML- ACR instead of the original components or something similar because it's not charging like it's supposed to. I know absolutely nothing about solar. I need to do a LOT more research.
  23. Hi guys, Hope everyone is doing well. I'm pretty much done with the major repairs on the Exec. It's time now to start planning my improvements. I know I've read other posts on adding batteries and charging options. I'm considering building a battery bank in my rear closet. It's directly over the battery compartment too. I currently only have 2 12v lead acid batteries running the Samsung fridge on trips and the charge only lasts about 2 hours before I have to crank the generator. I just wanted to get some ideas on what kind of systems you guys have and how long you can run without starting your generator. I only have one flat fixed solar panel but I have plenty of room to add 3 more of the same size.
  24. Mike, I'm sure there is a file of electrical schematics on this site that is comparable to your coach. Print a copy and keep it with the coach at all times. Also, invest in a good Fluke multimeter. It will save you in the long run. I haven't had my coach too long and I've had some of the same problems. Just take one thing at a time and usually the problems you'll have will be a quick simple fix. Look at the wiring and see if there has been a splice somewhere close to the plug. A bad splice can corrode overtime and lose voltage. Sometimes those plugs go bad too, check the voltage before the plug.
