  1. Most of the slides already move over vinyl plank that is glued down. The exception is the bed so I need to see where the rollers sit. In general, installation would be on areas like the bathroom in the rear (currently carpet), on the driver slide (weight concerns) and in the cockpit.
  2. Nice Job Cliff. Was this click or glue? BTW - has anyone here had experience with cork flooring in an RV? Seams it would address the noise/insulation/weight issues.
  3. I am following this with particular interest as my wife just brought up the subject this morning. currently we have a mix of carpet, vinyl plank (glue down) and some porcelain, care of the previ0us owner. The glued down vinyl looks great all be it dark. The carpet (2005) needs replacing in the bedroom, main slide, rear bath and under the driver's seat. while the wife has suggested vinyl throughout, I do not relish pulling up the existing vinyl. As to the carpet, changing it to vinyl would likely not add weight. I am however concerned about the reduction in insulation and sound deadening in making such a change. your thoughts or experiences?
  4. Are you looking for a charger maintainer or a jump charger? If a Jump charger I have a Gooloo 4000 that will jump car batteries as well as our Safari Cheetah CAT C7. I bought it on ebay - new- for less than $100. If you are looking for a charger/maintainer it may be my MH specific. We bought our 2005 Safari Cheetah in 2018. I learned that the chassis batteries are only charged while the engine is running via the alternator. The rig requires a special device to charge from the generator or shore power. Our rig is also designed so that the inverter must be on at all times in order to have 110 power inside the rig (with a few outlet exceptions, as most of the outlets are pass-thru via the inverter. I opted to buy a 4 amp digital charger from Harbor Freight, hard wiring it to the battery terminals and plugging it into the inverter/charger. I made that adaption in 2018 and it has worked fine ever since. As a side note, I also connected the chassis batteries to a 25 watt solar panel via a 12v charge controller. I place the sun when the rig is in storage and for the last year it has kept the charged chassis batteries topped off, even when the rig is left for months at a time. 5. We used Google maps but decided to invest in a Garmin 890. It is such a pain compared to GM I went back. Will try those mentioned above, but IMO if you are a regular user of GM do not waste your money on the Garmin 890. It will frustrate you to tears.
  6. Yep, I know where the tags are. Currently I am 100 miles from where the coach is stored so I was hoping there would be another place where I might have a record, as in a document.
  7. I contacted Bauer RV Upholstery about possible replacement covers for our 2005 M. Safari Cheetah. They asked for the chair manufacture ID (Flexsteel). I can not find the information on the build sheet or in the product brochure. I will be several weeks before I can go back to the MH, a state away in storage, to see the chairs in person. Does anyone know where, other than the chairs themselves, I might find this information?
  8. Gary M, before you posted I went to Bauer website but was unclear from there whether they make kits or only do fabrication and installation. Thanks for the added info. I will call them tomorrow. I think we have Flexsteel and not VI but it is not stated on the MH build sheet or the brochure so I will have to wait until I am back at the RV and can check the tags ( hopefully the PO did not remove them.
  9. Ted, your MH is of similar age and size to ours (2005 Safari Cheetah 40 DST - R4R) About how much were the shocks ( parts, not installation)?
  10. I went to Source Engineering's website. Apparently they are no longer selling direct. They use to have current pricing on their website but that is no more for any parts they sell.
  11. While our "riding" chairs are in pretty good shape considering their age (no tares or de lamination) the piping upholstery covering has worn through in many places including on the seat front and arm rests. My DW particularly complains about this as often she is wearing shorts while we drive while I usually wear jeans. Buying new seats is a considerable cost undertaking but the few quotes I have gotten for reupholster seem to be close to replacement cost. I would be interested in hearing your experiences with either approach, especially in the south east as we are located in SE Louisiana.
  12. Were the new Billsteins standard or the modified ones from Source Engineering? Our rig is also on an R4R suspension with OEM shocks that I believe are Monroe. While our ride is quite comfortable except when we go over expansion joints in the highway, I have been thinking of replacing these 18yr old shocks.
  13. Would be curious of your comparative experience between the two brands after say a year of use.
  14. Thanks Scotty for posting this cross reference listing. I find it very informative and a real help when looking for information on builds and parts. It might be helpful to others make a pdf version and add it to the reference data file for easy download.
  15. I just got mine but haven't had an opportunity to try it yet. As an FYI - be careful when ordering from amazon or e-bay to know where your order comes from. My order, which I expected to receive within 5 days took two weeks because the shipper was sending it from Germany. It took so digging to find this out so be sure to check the "ship from" disclaimer before placing the order, and not just the product description.
  16. Yours is just like mine. Push and 1/4 turn to the left. BTW- Scanguage D is the code reader that fits this if you have a deisel system.
  17. Thanks for posting the road condition information. It helps many of the rest of us in planning when going through such areas. Posting of the Route 66 alternate is equally helpful.
  18. Everyone's taste is different. I actually prefer soft water for ice as it stays more clear as oppose to hard water that will be white. FYI- in our setup the water is regulated for pressure at the spigot, goes through a gradient filter to 5 micron , then 0.5 micron carbon block and then softener. Our gig is set up with a two way valve on tank fill and city water, so all water that goes in the system is treated. I do treat the tank when ever it has been in storage with a bleach solution just to make sure the tank remains sterile.
  19. We have the same (but older) model that we got about 18 months ago. Initially we where camping mostly in soft water areas but our first trip to Florida I kew we were headed to an area with harder water. I love the unit and find it very easy to use. In our coach there is a partition on the left side of the wet bay that holds the softener perfectly. As a result I plumbed with a shortened water (white) hose a connection from the softener to the water inlet. I use a quick disconnect to attach the softened to the filtered line connecting to the spigot. This make set up fast and easy.
  20. Thanks Jim and Stella for sharing such detailed and important information. It is just one of the reasons I love this group. Such posts help others make more informed decisions. I was just about to consider more strongly going new or near new as this toad will also most likely be our daily driver. Now I am thinking it is important to learn as much about others experience with specific models and brands before pulling the trigger.
  21. Thanks Steve. These are good points. While we occasionally do the dirt road at 70 we do not do much in the off road category anymore. That said I remember doing Valley of the gods in Az in a rental sedan back in the late 90's. Because of the state of the auto industry today and the fact that the RV is stored when not in use a state away we will likely use this as a daily driver, at least for a while. For these reasons I am leaning toward a late model used vehicle in good shape, if it is already set up to tow. If I have to spend $10k additional to set up a vehicle then I might look at something new or very low miles.
  22. Thanks Walt, I have looked at rvt.com and found a few but none close at hand. Will give Autotrader.com a look.
  23. Thanks for the info. I am currently considering a used Equinox already set up to tow, except it is not wired for lights and charging. All the sub-compact and compact suv look very similar and I am unfamiliar with the Equinox. I have no experience owning GM products having never owned one (imports and some Fords and Chrysler pre-2010). What has been your experience with the Equinox both as a car and as a toad?
  24. On ebay there is a GP4000 (yellow model) I have the last one in my cart at $87.70 . This item is new from seller UCmoon2. I am deleting it now as The one I ordered yesterday has already shipped and was only 1$ more. Look for this on e-bay under this seller if you are interested. https://mail.yahoo.com/b/folders/1/messages/AIk-4kdm2jiYY_55iwdW6MU1J_A?adblock=1&folderType=INBOX&offset=0&unblockNow=false
