  1. If you have aw46 and want to lower its viscosity some you could add aw32. I read it is commonly done to deal with colder temps. May not be necessary for you .
  2. Thankyou frank. Short sweet and to the point. I could not locate any information telling of expansion. Our machines operate in very cold temperatures due to hungry livestock. 10w or less viscous hydraulic oils are used in a closed center hydraulics so the oil and machine can warm up some before a demand is made on the hydraulic pump. The end.
  3. I was surprised to read here that aw46 oil expands as it gets colder. I thought the viscosity increased as oil cooled and that expands at a rate of about 4% of volume per 100 degrees Fahrenheit as it heats. Transmissions and some other components are checked with oil at operating temperatures so the systems are not overfilled when checked on a cold reading. Anyone know for sure.
  4. We move 50000 pound plus excavation equipment over 5 in concrete. Compaction of the subsurface matters a lot. As throgmartin mentions it is the transition from one elevation to another that will crack it. The more cement in the mix the harder surface you can create when power troweled. Makes a smoother more durable surface. While a pit would be nice, some jurisdiction of cities don’t even allow a commercial repair shop to install a pit.
  5. I tend to stay away from Amazon or especially eBay for filters. You never know the origin or storage conditions. They could be years old and been stored in less than perfect conditions. I tend to go to a jobber where the freshness of the filter is not in question. Know. A neighbor who put a filter on a brand new rebuild tractor engine and it was wrecked in 300 hours. The filter element had disintegrated.
  6. Ah yes slides hydraulic slides. . Mine are electric but I do have hydraulic leveling leveling that is dexron .I had forgot that since I seldom use it. Having dexron in both systems may be a reason it is used to simplify the number of lubricants.,
  7. If your fluid level in not low and no known leaks, just go on your trip and resolve this to your satisfaction on your return . Likely it is dexron by appearance and the fact you had a partial jug from previous owner. That reservoir is the only place that likely could use dexron on your rig.. If you have time you could have it sampled . Or take it to a transmission shop you trust for a visual opinion. Some of those guys see, smell and feel more than we can know. I would be much more concerned about a mixture of oils in your transmission than I would this power steering /hydraulic fan system . Good travels.
  8. Very good. Gained a little understanding and will solve it from here.
  9. My posts. have always shown imperial at the bottom . My profile when I click on it has always said imperial. I must vibe missing something. Thanks at least it may be less confusing on your end.
  10. Thanks for the further response. When you say the blue seas detects a battery failure I assume you mean a battery bank failure and not an individual battery in that bank.Interesting. When I pull up my profile it’s says imperial please don’t change that.it is listed correctly in my posts nere. There is a jw James here with a J that does profile a Windsor . I would bet that is the profile you are looking at and not mine . Or your the system has confused me with his profile. Not a big deal. Please look more carefully is there a way when I pull my profile it’s different than what yOu see. Believe me I do know what motorhome I have although I may not know much more lol thanks. Good to know of blue seas products also in my imperial the sales men’s switch has been eliminated so therefore the echocharger was installed before me.
  11. In my first couple of post I describe the issue ,the model of coach and that it is not mine and not near me.so there is no need to revise my profile. Please reread those for clarification . I am trying to help a friend long distance. Maybe you didn’t read those early posts . I Made no mention of a Windsor in those and do know what they are and Monaco made them. Once againThe unit is a Monaco executive 43 Ds as I earlier described . Thanks to all as I think we will get this resolved from your help. I would be curious when you hardwire both sets of batteries together how much current you see being output by your alternator in travel. I would want to be comfortable with how that might affect alternator longevity. also you are likely tying lead acid agm to lead acid deep cycle . Don’t know how advisable that may be as often is recommend not to mix this types. On my equipment with multiple batteries if one fails it usually compromise the remaining batteries so I might be reluctant to hard wire different types and number and applications together. When your inverter fires up to run house high voltage are you drawing dc current from both house and chassis batteries.? Is there a possibility of running both house and chassis batteries down. Most likely there is some kind of isolator. how much max current is actually being diverted in echo charger operation. If chassis batteries are fully charged at engine shutdown I rarely see more that about six to 8 amps being diverted to them as measured by my victron shunt system. I observe the echo charger do it’s job and it seems perform evenly and nicely as I observe my victon system track the echo charger performance . I have lots of questions of which I do not have a definite answer. thankyou for the print attachments
  12. What is the advantage of the blue sea device over the echo charger.? It appears to me they do the same thing. There seems to be several models to choose from. While the echo charger is a voltage follower wondered if blue sea is similar. I have read that the blue sea will not charge the batteries completely and that tying house and and chassis batteries together may put excessive load on an alternator. Not sure if this is accurate information.
  13. The motorhome is not mine or near me. I understand there were those that had no provision to charge chassis batteries when on shore power.
  14. Trying to determine option for hooking up an echo charger on. 2003 executive 43ds Monaco. House and chassis batteries are not located together. Chassis batteries go dead if parked for a while . Could connect directly to the batteries if I run some extraconductor a few feet.or Possible go to forward 12v bay and connect everything there. Unfortunately things are not labeled on this Monaco. My hr imperial has all labeled very well. Pic of forward 12v is not very good but all I have.
  15. Yes I remember doing as you describe
  16. I bought the Bluetooth version. It comes with a display and also sends to Bluetooth app on phone or other device.I put the display in wet bay and just leave it there. I always check my phone or iPad. Works seamlessly and reliably. Getting wiring to the dash is far but may be the easiest and most accessible if you want to hard wire it. I like the Bluetooth because I can access it at the picnic table or anywhere near the motorhome. I have yet to determine if there is a common raceway to get inside the motorhome. To my overhead control cabinet everything seems to come down from ceiling.
  17. May depend on the where you last fueled. Most diesel at the pump is not a premium fuel. Some is just base number 2 with no additives at all. All diesel starts as base product and then the seller chooses what additives if any are put in.True premium fuels cost more and are priced to reflect that. To get the best premium fuels we have to search or have a jobber who delivers it to us. on the farm all our fuels are premium. premium fuels can have higher btu content and used to offset some of the cost when fuel was cheaper.I do not worry much about these sitting in storage. I have machines that have set from year to year or longer and never experienced storage problems. I know of local farmers who always by the cheapest fuel they can find and continually have injector and injector pump issues. Over the road I assume none are premium and put stanadyne or something similar in when filling up. Not all additives are the same . You could look in the tank to see if any algae was visible. It can float on top and look like moss. You could pull a sample and have it checked by a lab. There are those who do so who also do oil analysis. Good luck
  18. Those sensors if like mine are made by catcon and were available last I knew. I replaced the black and it worked for a while. I think solids aggravate it. You can take them out and clean them and it may or may not help for a time.I replaced the black sensor and it worked for a short while. Now it read 0% all the time. The grey and fresh work fine for me. I did install the Seelevel sensors with the blue tooth sender to my phone . On mine was very easy to do and work very well. They are affected some by how level the coach is but that is not a big issue.it is nice not to have to fire up the alladin when I want to check tank levels.
  19. All I did was search for garber fuel filter to come up with description of hygroscopic filtering done with polymer components that hold and keep moisture from being discharged down stream . It is called”water block”I have searched and found it several times. Each model of filter I saw included hygroscopic filtering . Including the ones designated for aquahot.. the hygroscopic filters I used on my diesel fuel bulk barrels were twice as expensive as non hygroscopic. It appears from what I see that garber filters may all be hygroscopic. May be why there is such a price difference . I have used both types but will probably do garber from now on. The end.
  20. Garber web site describes the water filter. It is a hygroscopicwater filter most likely since it is not like the settling type on many fuel filters that are drainable.Diesel fuel is mildly to very hygroscopic. It will absorb moisture from the air and keep it entrained in the fuel.I use the hygroscopic filters on my bulk diesel barrels. They do a good job but filter life is short . I don’t think most filters are hygroscopic.it is done internally by the filtering media and not a bowl. Mine specifically label the filter as being so and they a more expensive.if you have ever noticed adding water to red diesel fuel will make it a milky red color until it has enough time to settle out. It will probably pump before it has an opportunity to settle to the bottom of the bowl or tank. There probably is nothing that will compromise any fuel injection system quicker than contaminants of any kind. Since pickup tubes or fuel pumps sit off the bottom of most tanks why do vehicle manufacturers include water drains and water sensors, they would seem unnecessary. I guess the point is we are not trying only to keep free water out of the system but also the water entrained in the fuel. I have used filter of both ordinary and hygroscopic filters. Seems like my nozzles last longer with the garber,or it could just be a coincidence.
  21. The gar ber filter have a water trap. The others I am not sure do..
  22. I was of the understanding the control thermostat cycles both the diesel and electric side simultaneously. The high limit thermostats for diesel and electric are separate
  23. There are lubricants that are meant for extended change interval such as Schaefer products. Whether you are comfortable with their product claims ? I know indivuals with a lot of experience of their products who are very satisfied. An oil analysis as one puts time on would be a good way to know. As far as a generator on wheels it too will need the oil changed and many have no filters and much shorter oil change intervals.
  24. On a fifth wheel I had a failed neutral took out microwave, entertainment center, central vacc and a couple other items. It happens two times over several years. Second time I had installed a surge protector but the fault happened in the 50 amp plug downstream from the protection. . I believe the loss of neutral cause those circuits to go to high voltage 240v. Sometimes I have to use a long drop cord to reach my cord real. I always get the surge protector as close to the cord reel plug as possible to protect from any failed connections downstream..
