  1. Finally completed the install of my 790R30.  Thanks to Paul Whittle for suggesting the shutoff valves.

I was still uncomfortable with the idea of using the 3/8 fittings with 1/2ID hose so they were replaced with 1/2" barb to 1/2" JIC.  The trick was to get the barb fitting into this plastic-nylon-?? fuel hose.  Could the 3/8" be too much of a restriction?  Would it wait to remind me when I climb the first big hill?  What the heck, it should be possible to press those fittings into that ?? hose.

It was tough, a project in itself figuring out how to get the 1/2" barb into this 1'2" ID hose.  I used the clamp as a 'backup"' just in case... figured it couldn't hurt.  I still don't know what the hose is made of but after some research and delays on other things I came up with a solution...

  2. @Mocephus  Thanks for the pictures.  I'm going under the coach at first opportunity and takin a look at mine.  I will try get gussets installed here, as I suspect they're not on my coach either.  Otherwise may need to go to Josams too.   If anyone with a newer Sig (06? 07?) has them (gussets, that is)  a picture will be appreciated.

  3. Back when we had our Dynasty we replaced the Norcold 1200 with a Samsung RF197.  We dodged the proverbial bullet, noticed ammonia smell from the 1200 and shut it down.

Back then I did a power consumption comparison.  Comparing the "amps" is meaningless; the ampere is just a measure of current flow, when the device is running.  The key is comparison of the power (KWH or WH) drawn over a given time.

Any good comparison should consider the appliances running under the same conditions, eg. same ambient temperature and same target temperature inside the refrigeration and freezing compartment.  The 197 kept temperatures in both compartments lower than the 1200 ever did.  House batteries were adequate over night for dry camping for each. with the 197 drawing somewhat more electric power than the 1200 did when it was running on gas.  The 1200 on electric would kill the batteries in no time so we never tried that.    I recall doing the math but don't have those figures handy.  Ran the genset to recharge the next day either way.

Yes triplets! Wish you were there too! Woulda been a great photo op!

    Yep!  Maybe the upcoming Monacoers.

I think that Landsdown was a popular paint scheme that year.   The only concern I have is the black "racoon mask" around the windshield; I have little to no checking but I know the black paint is most likely to absorb IR heat.  Wondering if any 05 Sig owners have repainted that to body color.

  5. The Girard patio awning just 'tips the corner of the door when it retracts with door fully open.  I followed instructions from the manual (Screen shot below) but no change.  I loosened both 3/4" nut& bolt as shown, then tightened the 3/8" adjustment bolt at least two turns but there was no difference.    Then I tried to lower the rear to give more front to back pitch.  Loosened both the 3/4" then backed off on the 3/8" adjustment bolt.  After about a half turn the bolt could be turned by fingers.  Looks like something is stuck.

Sprayed a little oil in both front and rear assemblies and tried a few minutes later... same thing.

Am I missing something?  Has anyone raised (or lowered) their Girard adjustments?

  6. Good backup idea.  Nice to have the redundancy when availability of replacement part is nil.

Have you looked into using the VIP Smartwheel controller for lights, wipers?  That may require swapout of clockspring or other parts.

  7. We lost a few automatic coffee makers a while back.  Realized the cheap electronics in the timer controls were getting fried.  Went to a good ol' coffee maker with just an on-off switch and no more problems.

The "modified Sine Wave" is basically a square wave and many electronic circuits react the way they would to voltage spikes.

  8.

It's a good idea to run the coach, genset, furnace monthly if that's possible.  It certainly won't hurt to change oil more frequently.  If you are concerned about the condition of the oil, getting an oil analysis is a good idea.  I've been using Blackstone for many years; there are others too.   I generally send in a sample for analysis each year before the oil change.  Sometimes Blackstone will tell me the oil is good for more, but I change it anyway.

Yes. I am running this on Windows 10 64-bit.

For a different project I wanted to resurrect an old parallel port EPROM programmer. I screwed around, bought a new PCI LPT port card, bought a video card for an old PC, bought an adapter for that card, and finally bought another old PC before I got it to run using a DOS boot from USB.

    Nothing’s easy.

    Paul

That's encouraging to hear.  Maybe the RS232 adapters I was using is the problem.  I tried an old usb-to-rs232 adapter; that didn't work on both the Thinkpads which I tried.  Then a Startech Express card.  I'll try a different card when I get the chance.  Do you recall which card you used?

WOW! I posted this back in March 2020. I do apologize for not following up. I've installed the SeeLevel II system and am fairly pleased with the outcome. I decided not to use the Aladdin system due to all it's faults, real or imagined. I installed the SLII easily enough as all three tanks are accessible on the passenger side compartment. I'll post some pics tomorrow when it's light out. I fished the wire through the tank bay which comes out right next to the dump bay on the driver's side. I mounted the panel head in that compartment and decided the extra head wouldn't be necessary as I'm not so concerned with the tanks that I can't go outside and look. I also mounted a three gang toggle switch which turns on the LED lights, the macerator and the head unit itself. Everything works as designed and I'm pleased with the install....Again, I apologize for not following up and I'll post the pics tomorrow.....Dennis

I made an inquiry I made to Garnet and received a response.   Their SeeLevel version with an interface to the Aladdin is no longer available.  The tank level calibration # is the same on the fresh tank full or empty so I think there may be a problem with the cable or the interface module.

I put a Seelevel in my Dynasty years ago so it looks like I'll eventually go that way.  Wondering if anyone has the specs for the digital-to-analog converter which Garnet used to have for that model.

  11. We have two sons in CA.  A winter trip there was a regular yearly thing for over a decade.  General RV-unfriendliness, CG insufficiency, congestion and fuel prices made it tougher.  Irate motorists & crazy drivers didn't help the situation.  In January 2019 we decided to take the trip with our pickup, stay in a B&B a lot closer to the family.  It was less hassle and resulted in more time to spend with the grandkids.  Now we prefer that our kids to come visit us; sometimes that happens.

After CA stops their 'shutdown" if that ever happens, we may decide otherwise but as of now we don't expect to ever take the coach to the west coast.

I have not started on installing the Racor 79030R yet but will advise on size of fittings when I do in the next few days

Do you have the rubber hoses with brass or steel threaded fittings on yours?... or the plastic VOSS connectors like mine?

I just noticed that one of my fittings has a broken red clip. See Below,  I do not know what, if anything, the clip does to hold the fitting together.

    attachment.php?attachmentid=325937&stc=1

I wrapped the tabs with a zip tie but do not know if that is sufficient to hold it.

Has anyone with this type of connection replaced the whole thing with steel or brass "field-installable" fittings?
