  1. The one we used was one that was highly recommended by hundreds of owners. At the time it was the most popular. We had to clearance the rims on the toad so the sensors would fit. We had leaks and then changed over to real truck-type solid valve stems. Even then, after it was all sorted, it was unreliable and we took it off and burned the $600 or so it cost. This is why I suggest anyone looking into adding one do their research and try and get one as close to an OEM design as possible. The OEM's put them on the inside of the rim as part of the valve stem. They ARE reliable. Whether they are available in the aftermarket, I'm not sure.
  2. I've never weighed mine per wheel so I can't help you there but we did install a tire pressure monitoring system for the motorhome and the toad. I got rid of it. Be careful when buying one. I would suggest getting as close to OE as you can, ie, valve stems with monitors on the inside of the wheel. The ones that got were highly recommended, fit on the outside of the valve stems, and were not worth it. They caused a lot of problems.
  3. Well, that post worked and was not full of dead air. So it's not your signature.....
  4. I just figured you didn't have much to say! Is the problem with your sig file ?
  5. Set your pressures cold and never let air out when they are hot. The manufacturers fully understand the temperature range the tire operates at. Set them at the cold pressure rating recommended for your weight, and that's it. The ONLY way you can set hot tire temperatures is if you have a pyrometer and are racing at Nascar, Indianapolis or racing motorcycles and have a great deal of experience. Ie, does not apply! The 'best practices' route is to have all four corners weighed and then set each corner individually according to the weight on each corner. But never ever let air out of a hot tire to bring it down to the cold pressure rating. This will leave your tire dramatically under inflated. Keep it simple, set them cold, and the hotter they get, or work, the higher the rise will be. But know this, the manufacturer has taken all that into account.
  6. How much play is in them? Take large pliers and 'crimp' them together to see. If your concern is the torn boots then ask about replacement boots at the auto parts store. Pretty sure they are available. But at the end of the day, the easiest way to check is use large pliers and check for play. The rubber boot is there to keep out moisture, dirt and to keep a blob of grease in there. Just because the boots are torn does not mean the actual joints are worn out.
  7. Crappy news. It seems the park does not have enough stable water pressure (now at 50 PSI) to move the paper off the bottom of the tank. It has to float it loose first and that means the black tank valve has to be closed. Still worth it though as it makes flushing much easier being that it's on a timer.
  8. Now that's a big trip 😃Mind you, in some ways, a person doesn't really need to leave the island 😇 I wanted to get out to Jordon River a while back but it seems they don't have a phone and are usually full. I'm actually thinking of doing a run, soon, out to Port Hardy in an effort to burn off fuel and get the unit on the road. The fuel that's in it has been in there for some time and it would be nice to replenish it and test everything out.
  9. You're kidding! I'm in Parksville !
  10. He sure is (a genius) !! 😃 It's absolutely awesome, thank you so much for posting about it. The cost of the timer was $40 CAD and I spent about $20 CAD on nice hose and fittings. It works so well, right off the bat, and it's now programmed for 5 minutes every 3 days at 2 PM. I have a clear elbow outside so I will watch it during that time and see if I need to adjust how long it runs. I really doubt it. But wow, what a positive addition. The park I am in is on well water. It's a HUGE park with something like 250 units or so with a lot more on the way. The water is typically good. But I always feel guilty about how much I use during a flushing session. I think you just cased that so it's going to be better for everyone. Should I find something new once I'm using it I'll post back with updates. Perhaps even 5 minutes is too long? We shall see and adjust as necessary !!
  11. Thank you Ray, that is an excellent solution if it becomes problematic. I'm living in the unit full time so my guess is that it's not going to be an issue. Its very good that you posted it up in this thread though because if it does become an issue the information is right there. Sure loving this auto-flushing solution. In the park I am it take 16 minutes to get the black tank filled with flush water up to the pipe under the toilet. In the past I set a timer on my phone and would have to run outside to shut the water off knowing if I let it go longer it could come out the roof! Because I'm planning on leaving the valve open and having the flush run for 5 minutes every 3rd day I wanted to flush the black tank until it was clear. I just entered 16 minutes into the timer and walked away. I did this 4 times, and each time I checked with a flashlight down the toilet. Perfect level every time. It's now on the timer and I will check it in two days but I have to say, this has been one of the best mods I've done yet !
  12. These babies. Cheap and they work fast!
  13. Mine caused me problems at one time and I took it out, stripped it down and stuck it in my ultrasonic cleaner. I put it back together and all was well. At the time I researched it and most people cleaned it with success as mentioned.
  14. Correct. My assumption is that those timers are designed for AC, and whether it mattered that they were put into service for DC. I'm guessing they just make or break the circuit and it does not matter.
  15. I do know there is a replacement fan that you can buy from Dometic (?) that has a remote control and a motor to open and close. It may also have a timer, not sure. I looked into it a while back. It does have temperature control. It was actually pretty reasonable, I think ~$250 ? Worth looking at. I think it was this one Fan-Tastic Vent K6600R-417 Vent Upgrade Kit
  16. This is a brilliant idea, especially in the bathroom for me. I looked in my cabinet and could not see any wires for the ceiling fan. It take it the timers are just a make or break device so it does not matter if they are made for 12v or 120v ? I guess I'll have to see where the fan wires run in my bathroom on my 2000 Diplomat.
  17. Tx, fixed it. It's hard to see the giant cloud of steam 😞
  18. BTW, here's a video of it in action. It's hard to show the giant steam cloud that comes out, though. It's much bigger than you can see.
  19. I use regular toilet paper and have no issues. Have for 5 years (?) now. A lot of this black tank stuff is over thought. What I do (currently) is put a Green Gobbler in the tank when empty and then I don't drain it until it's full. When flushing, for me that's about two weeks, the toilet paper is well dissolved and hard to see as it goes out the drain. In fact, pretty much everything is nothing but liquid. You see the odd clump of toilet paper but that is because it's recent. The vast majority is just liquified. Green Gobbler's work as well as any of the other 'treatments' and probably better. They are much cheaper and can be gotten anywhere. They are made for septic tanks so they are appropriately 'overkill' for the black tank in a motorhome. But they will eat pretty much everything in that two week window. Besides that, how often in life do you get to say you threw a green goblin down your toilet?? 🤣
  20. Nice work on the outlet! Get's me more interested in a 3D printer. I went through my unit a while back and wired in outlets in all the compartments underneath. I then took out all the GFCI's as they tended to cause problems and replaced them with standard outlets. Couldn't be happier and now I have power everywhere. I also replaced one of the internal outlets with one that has USB ports and a quick charger built in for my phone. These are all easy and cheap things to do and they make such a big difference.
  21. The more I think about it, the more I like it. In theory, only the very bottom of your tank would ever be dirty, and only for duration of the window you set on the timer. This cause me to wonder about what the best setting would be on the timer. I just installed a 25 amp WiFi smart switch on my hot water heater last night and the granularity of the scheduling of it is amazing. (post on that upcoming) This causes me to wonder if a person could modify your solution to one where you just say into your phone, "Hey Google, flush the black tank" and the sprayer comes on for 30 or 45 seconds.... I think your solution is very interesting. The price on those timers seems to be about $46 CAD so it's very reasonable and it's certainly out of the box thinking. Since you have verified the functionality I'm thinking of pursuing it, maybe just re-shaping it a bit. I'd say congrats, it looks like a valuable addition.
  22. Mine was the condenser model. No vent. Same as the new one. No vent.
  23. I sure loved my Splendide. What a little workhorse. I take it yours is vented model? I am really surprised how serviceable mine was. Both the new one and the old one are excellent machines but the new one is much bigger and much more configurable. Full control over everything. But they are 22 years apart. The computer control of the new machine is a big bonus. Ah well, fun, fun, fun!
