 Modular Smartwheel master controller

Greg Coffey replied to Jim-Denise's topic in Electrical Systems

Hello, I am in need of a Modular Smartwheel Master Controller SM209/210. Can anyone help me find one of these units. NWRV is sold out, out of stock. I replaced the harness for the J12 plug but it has so much burn to it that the plug isn't connecting perfectly. Thanks , Greg Coffey 2005 Monaco Dynasty

Ivylog, you say bypass the J12. How do you bypass it? Or do you mean, unplug it? With the top 2 terminals scorched so bad I had them unplugged and I had no headlights for travelling at night. Not a big problem, just no night driving.

Whether you end up repairing or replacing, it would be advisable to install relay(s) in the light circuit and prevent the same from happening to your new/repaired unit.

Ivylog, do you have, or know where I can find, a how to post or video on the J12 bypass from beginning to end with part numbers? I've been researching this and I can find bits and pieces but not enough to jump into it. Let's see if understand your bypass suggestion, so please let me know if I have right or wrong.
Bypass: solder wires to the circuit board J12 pin 1 & 2, connect these wires to the new 30 amp relay, to replace the one we're bypassing, cut corresponding wires on connector and connect them to them to the relay

The area around one of the 2 pins of the J12 was burned up… traced the board’s ribbon to the the pin of the actual relay. Soldered the jumper as pictured. Other end of the jumper I soldered to the two burnt wires, didn’t use a relay.

Instead of drilling 2 holes in the plastic cover, take a portion out of the lip on the cover. Run the 2 wire under that notch in the lip.

You guys probably have seen this, but if not, this is a fix when the power supply goes South.

it pertains to the CCM, BUT I think others have also used this for older models.

If NOT, then @Frank McElroy will correct or hide this post…  LOL

Tom, This fix only applies to a Kongsberg chassis multiplex coach - not to a coach with a smart wheel control module.

There’s another option instead of fixing/bypassing the plug. Turn the low beams into Daytime Running Lights. Use a spare power lug on a board in the FRBox to power the 2 burnt wires (low beans)… power anytime the key is on so add an inline fuse.

Best option is to repair the SM209 board or buy a SM210 (you can contact IMMT direct to get a board when NWRVsupply is out - just a slightly higher cost). Then install a relay in the low beam wire that goes into the J-plug.
I searched this site and found the blog that showed the schematic & Tom helped me finalize my wiring for the relay.
This relay install still allows all the smartwheel functions to work as well.

FINDING** when I was finalizing my install, I was doublechecking the miles connections and I found 3 wires that were NOT fully seated which was creating loose connections.  I got the pins seated in the plug and all is working perfectly.

best of luck
