@Scotty Hutto Scotty I am curious, is this what you had and you upgraded?  If so, what did you upgrade to?

I wouldn’t necessarily call it an upgrade, but I have a remote coach monitoring system, and I went with a Hughes Power Watchdog because it integrates with the RV Whisper remote monitoring system. Electrically they are very similar, but the Hughes connects via Bluetooth to the RV Whisper.

The HW50C is a built in or hard wired inside the MH's power feed just upstream of the ATS. It provides Surge Protection; It has 10 or so different power monitoring features, including the dreaded OPEN NEUTRAL that just, possibly, zapped a member's Inverter; It has one remote monitor for mounting inside the MH and can also accept a second that can be located near it; it is a "2 Board" device that is 100% Field Serviceable so you can replace a defective board if needed.

It is probably the most popular Surge Suppressor. On the Original Yahoo Site, it was the ONLY Surge Protector to own. In recent years, there are many that are clones of it and also have more "GEE WHIZ" features such as phone monitoring and such.

The simplicity of being able to diagnose and replace a board is one of it's best features. It was designed and developed by the Field Rep for TRC SurgeGuard. He left the company as their marketing and design departments would not listen to his feedback from customers. The Original SurgeGuard plug in 50 Amp unit provided minimal protection, but did work. However, once it took a hit, it then continued to be connected and the entire assembly was a molded body so working or repairing was impossible. If you sent it in to TRC for repair, they tested and then said....BUY A NEW ONE.

That's what it does and many of us have them. I sold my plug in and installed the HW50C in 2009 and it saved me from a dreaded open neutral.  That was "sort of" self inflicted and NOT the Pedestal. The gas strut on a bay door opened or continued to open, very gently, and the door bumped the shore plug. That gently bump or "love tap" dislodged the crimped Neutral connection inside the plug. The HW50C prevented damage from the 175 VAC power on each leg.

If you are not aware of the danger and the damage from an open neutral, google it. We have had members that sustained over $12,000.  All the AC items were toasted. That included the HVAC units and Microwave and TV's and Inverters.
