To install coolant shut off valves or not?
DZZippy

I figured I would throw this question out to all to see what has been done in an attempt to not reinvent the wheel. I am in the process of replacing the side radiator and CAC. While the coolant has been drained I thought this would be the time to possibly install coolant shut off valves for supply / return lines for the dash heater core as well as the Aquahot. I figured I would install right on the block at the ISL. This would allow me to isolate the Aquahot and front dash heater if there is a problem with either of the “auxiliary” components to the engine and not leave me stranded on the side of the road like it did once before. It would also improve AC function during the summer months in the front dash. Any thoughts from anyone who has done this? Also, what threaded valves did you use? Did you notice any difference in engine coolant temp (assuming not but figured I would ask)? As always, thanks for any info and thoughts.

When I had to remove my aquahot from the coach a few years ago to repair a leak, I installed shutoff valves on both engine coolant lines to/from the aquahot to avoid the mess if/when I need to pull it out again. But I did it right there in the bay, not at the engine. I used these from Home Depot: IMG_5082.heic

If it a Lippert hydraulic system it could be a bad cylinder.  Had same issue on the curb side just after the warranty expired and no problem after replacement.

Morning, when i did mine rather than have a mount to the block design i had cut out 3 ft of heater hose from the block, i then replaced it with silicon heater hose, then i installed the shut off valves. That way i knew i would not have to worry about the the hose leading up to the valve. My coach is rear radiator design so my access is thru the closet. One last word about the silicon hose i also used the special hose clamps ,they are full circle so as not to damage it like some others might

Thoughts on a 2013 Ford F 150 Platinum Ecoboost
jacwjames

I've been looking for a different toad.  I found a 2013 Ford F 150 Platinum Ecoboost all ready set up for towing, looks like it is in really clean condition.  New tires and brakes,  86K miles on it.

Anyone have any thoughts on this, especially the Ecoboost engine.  I heard there are problems with specific year, trying to figure out if this one would be reliable.

Ism 500 - 2008 Dynasty - engine fault code
Doug and Nicki

I have a Scangauge D and that is the code it provides. I may need to contact Cummins with my engine serial number to figure this out. I have noticed looking online and in my manual that the engine light coming on and going off after a minute or so may indicate water in the fuel, so have changed both filters. I will be on the road early next week and will see if that has made a difference. There was just a tiny bit of water in the one old filter when I opened the drain.

An '06 with Valid air leveling?  I thought Monaco used HWH up thru '06, then started with Valid in '07.

My 06 Windsor has the Valid air leveling as well.

My 1/4 inch ball valves that drain my air tanks are leaking (I have 4 of them).  Some time back in one of the discussions about air leaks, someone posted a picture and description of quality replacements for these ball valves.  I have searched the forum but have not been able to find the reference.  I think it was Scotty that posted the picture.  Can anyone point me in the right direction?  Thanks

Richard

The Valves are Haldex Drain Valves and are available through NAPA Auto Parts. Part number is MBI 12110. Price is $17.99 each.

Rear Camera malfunction...What is the "Monaco" history and are they will in business?
RNMCBR

On my 07 Diplomat, which may be the same as your Knight, my rear camera lost signal and then became intermittent. I pulled the camera and found the cable just dangling, unsupported in the rear cap cavity. I located the connector, cleaned and reseated it then zip-tied the cable so the connector is not under any stress. That seemed to fix my problem.

Do you have a manual, there may be a way to recover the fault codes other then the scangauge.

Do you have an Alladin display, have you check what is possible using that?

My initial idea was to avoid any hose prior to the valve but I think I’m going the direction you both have already gone and splice in. Great thought on the silicone hose and appropriate clamps.

Get steps to stay in w/ door open

@Frank McElroy Thanks for your feedback! However, is it possible my Dynasty may be one of those snowflakes? When I turn OFF the step switch the only thing it does is keep the step extended when the coach isn’t running. It will not keep the step retracted. I experimented w/ it both ways.

My solution was to unplug the motor w/ the steps retracted. Then when we got ready to head north I reached under & plugged the steps back in.

And @Tom Cherry, we employ your procedure of keeping the steps extended when we’re parked & don’t have the constructed steps.

Thanks again!

I just tested mine.  With the steps retracted, ignition OFF and door closed, while inside the coach, I turned the step switch to OFF and the steps stay retracted when the door opens.  If the door is open with the steps out and I shut off the step switch the steps will stay out whether the door is opened or closed.  If the step switch is turned ON, the steps will extend when the door opens and retract when the door is closed.  That's how the system was designed to work and that's what mine does.

If you're following the proper procedure I described above and the steps still come out when you open the door, you likely have a wiring or switch control issue.

Drivers side front slide creeps out traveling
CTerry

I have had this problem with both of my hydraulic slides. It was leaking hoses. Look for leaks around the fittings. Monaco used a hose that will NOT accept replaceable fittings. I replaced the whole hose. You can not just pull new hose threw by connecting to old hose. My hoses went up inside frame and was zip tied every six inches or so. Rerouted them where they are accessible and visable. Not easy but has worked for a couple of years.

I would still keep them as close to the engine as possible!

Water Pump Question
Jetjockey

Ben, I have installed several recent rv 55. If they have no check internally . They still do hold pressure when shut off. I will look when I get a chance for a check valve in the system elsewhere.as you I have had numerous atv types apart and find the same internal components. Some chemicals cause those internal rubber diaphragms and check flappers to fail..

as you say with out a check of some type the pump doesn’t pressurize in either direction.

The manufacutuers site states the reason for the Check valve is to prevent back flow when on city water.

Thanks for short concise posts  I tend not to read the post that are a page long. Although from time to time I may be quilty of that.

I removed a pair of valves from my engine.  I had two pairs of heater hoses, one had valves threaded into the engine, and the other was the heater hoses to the front heater core.  I didn't trust the valves to stand the engine vibration, so plugged those holes and will tee into the other heater hoses for other uses.  I will probably not add shut off valves either, as I can cut the hose and loop back to the engine at any point with a knife and screwdriver to keep going in an emergency.

On mine, the heater hoses to the front have a bypass crossover "H" just before valve, in order to keep hot coolant circulating and provide quicker response I assume.  Useful for defrost also.  The downside of that is heat added to the basement anytime the engine is running.

We spent the night at a rest area in Colorado. In the am I tried to open the door and nothing happened. When my Dynasty as in my shop I had removed the inner door panles and checked that the latches were timed correctly. All was good so I lubricated everything with white grease. Worked great. But here I was locked inside. My old body could  not get out the emergency window. Another RV'r came over to help but without making a hole in the inner door panel one cannot access the  bowels of the door. Finally I called an RV shop. He had a tech that lived next to the  rest area in a KOA. We still could not open the door. He finally realized that the problem was the dead bolt. With a bent putty knife we got it open. The dead bolt had split. I taped up the openings and we made it back to Canada. I tried the paryts list but found nothing. Did some googling and found this:

Chinese junk it may be, but 2/3 of everything we buy in this country is made in China these days so I wouldn't assume it to be total junk. Reading it, it looks like it may be the only game that's left.

If I was in that pickle I think I'd order it and see how it comes out.  I didn't get in to looking at the company's return policy but they did indicate that compatibility is your responsibility.  Looks an awful lot like mine good luck.

Can you post a picture of the part that is split?

Since you've posted this I've tried to search to find a replacement.  Veurinks pretty much sources parts from REVRVParts.com  They also show the part out of stock.

I've towed both a 2012 and now a 2019 both with the Eco boost engine BUT they HAVE to be 4x4's.  After 2019 or 2020 they started doing some funky things with the towing set up procedure.  Setting it up to be towed disconnects everything so no milage is recorded.

Thanks Mike

The truck is already set up for towing so I assume it can be towed which is a big advantage.  Price is in line with what I've seen especially with the towing package.

Been doing some research, you can find both pro and con comments but overall it seems to have some positive reviews and comments.

Asked a mechanic friend and he said overall pretty positive.

Fuel milage is about 1mpg below what they advertise.  I average around 18.5 mpg.  There's a device and free software called ForScan you can download to change some of the hidden functions.

I am very frustrated. Yes it is obsolete. You can buy a deadbolt latch with a 5 inch backset but this one is over 6 inches. The bolt on the Monaco latch is removable and I think I can tighten it up.  When I could not open the door that bolt extension was loose and fell out. Hard to believe that someone does not make that part or a workaround.

Don't believe what folks tell you.  The Rolexes, sold on the sidewalks and such,  in DC and NYC and LA are REAL.  They are a real bargain.  They are stolen and not a fake knock off that won't work when you get home.

Now....do you feel better....  LOL

I found a deadbolt lock that looks like the one that is installed on my 2005 Dynasty Countess lll.  I found it on the Vizilok website. It is called a "Commercial Entrance Lever Lock".  I don't have a product number or part number.  You might google the VIZILOK website to see if it is a correct match.

I tow a 2014 F-150 Platinum with the Eco Boost engine and I have not had any problems so far.  I have the roadmaster tow bar system which I had set up buy the factory techs at their plant in Vancouver WA.  My truck is the 4x4 version with supercrew cab.  The owners manual has detailed directions for setting up for 4 flat towing.

I like all the room in the back seat area for traveling with our German Shepards.

Good luck!

08 dynasty thermostat issue
vipeboy2000

Hey guys.  It's me again . I may have inadvertently fried either my control board in the front ac or the thermostat .

I had turned off all the 120v breakers to the ac units and hit the battery disconnect in the coach ... but forgot to do the main disconnect at the battery.

Front ac capacitor failed so was replacing it. Did not notice how tight the phone cable control wire was when re inserting the new capacitor and bent the ports and may have broken a pin.  So I disconnected everything to re solder the connector.  I saw a spark where the 3amp fuse is when it brushed up against a wire and the 3 amp fuse burned.  I re soldered and put a new 3 amp fuse in and re connected everything. I now have no power at all to the inside thermostat .

Thoughts? Thanks everyone.  Of course I decide to do this 5 days before myrtle beach... if we can't get ac we probably will need to cancel as we need to be able to work from the rv and it will he too hot.

You should have an other 12v fuse in an interior fuse box. Mine is 2A in a bedroom cabinet fuse box. Good luck, hopefully that easy.

08 dynasty thermostat issue
Tom Cherry

There is ONE FUSE, Somewhere on the main fuse panel.  It feeds ALL the control modules…zone 1, 2 & 3.  You  have a hidden “controller” for the middle section heat. Zone 4, i think.

There is a clear drawing for this in your prints.  It shows all the zone units qmd 120 VAC and such.  I’m on my ipad….but it is in the prints.  If you down load the file…open it.  There is a PDF index.  You can also use the Adobe FIND tool in the upper right.  Put in THERMOSTAT.  It will let you toggle though every print that has the word THERMOSTAT.  FIND IT.

I can’t really tell how much damage….you may have done….minor or major from your post.

Here is what you need to understand,  There is a 2 Pair or 4 wire “data communications” cable that runs from the thermostat to the front unit….then all the way through the MH. My memory is slack as to whether you have 2 or 1 thermostats.  One pair is 12 VDC.  It powers the thermostat.  The other pair is a Multiplexed pair.

If you broke or destroyed a phone connector wire….UGLY.  The way this works.  Any time you mess with or disconnect or tinker with the HVAC system, you “disconnect” a circuit that is always HOT or live.  SO…after you finish, you have to RESET or REBOOT then entire system,  Turn OFF the bottom switch.  Hold ON MODE and ZONE.  Then power it ON.  FF in the display.  That means the Thermostat has communicated with and done a digital handshake with every controller.  Sort of like holding hands at a prayer session,  BREAK the circuit….it ain't gonna work.  Reset.  WORD OF CAUTION.  Never use the bottom switch for anything except resetting.  Use the Zone snd then toggle the MODE to OFF.  The thermostat is not in production.  Used.  The mechanical swrich is the first to fail.  You DO NOT want to abuse it.

If you blew a House fuse….look on the print or read the owners manual and find out which.  Replace or test it.  NO FF during reset…there is a Communication open circuit. You can remove the front controller and the the rear controller (top side) and swap.  This is the quickest troubleshooting technique.  You MUST set the DIP switches so that the front one, presumably NOW in the rear, NOW matches the REAR settings.  Odds are…FRONT has only fhe FURNACE DIP ON.  The rear is set to zone 3 and Furnace ON,  This is based on ONE Thermostat.  If you have TWO.  Bedroom will be Furnace ONLY…..as the default is Zone 1.   Middle will be Zone 2 on.  Don’t recall the Furnace setting….PROBABLY NONE…as your heat is Zone 4 in a buried placed harder to get to than Jaba the Hut’s liver (just got back from Return of the Jedi on a giant screen in the NC Symphony Concert hall and they played the music LIVE….UNBELIEVABLE.

That’s the drill. YOU MUST GET AN FF….otherwise a wiring problem.  Some folks have to reterminate the PHONE connectors.

Good Luck…if I have time, going to a beach time share tomorrow early, i’ll try to post the print…..otherwise, you need to be familiar with them and learn to use them,

NO POP QUIZ THIS TIME…skipping the “May the Force….” Tagline.

Keep us posted…
