RV Tools

Recommended Posts

Ever so often, we have a thread about what tools folks carry.  It’s been a while, so just in case anyone needs gift ideas, I thought this was a pretty decent list from RV Travel newsletter:

What’s missing from this list?  Tell us your favorites!

We full time so I’m carrying a lot of tools and other items. This stool is one thing I have put to good use.

I did not see these ‘tools’ in the list:

  • Electrical tape
  • Teflon tape

Electrical tape and connectors is #14.

It’s a decent list for people that don’t already carry a reasonable set of hand tools. But the article mentions a tool bag, and all that stuff is better in a couple toolboxes.

I have an entire storage bay dedicated to tools, spare filters, and some project boxes.

Haha, I'm like you, too many tools and parts to list, scattered wherever they fit. Too much to even try to list. Ready for an apocalypse, almost.

Same here, I keep adding stuff then realize I have two of almost everything now. One thing I carry is a lot of different size cable ties, it’s amazing what you can do with those things in a pinch.

RIGHT ANGLE GRINDER

Ok, I know this isn’t for everyone, but I wouldn’t travel without a right angle grinder. Use it at least once a week to either cut, grind or wire brush something. We’re full timers, so projects are done on the road and almost every project calls on the grinder.

Tools I miss the most that didn’t win the “space battle” in our 34 York:

Skill saw - though it’s amazing what the small multi-tool vibrator will do in a pinch; once cut a sheet of plywood

Compressor - we do carry a 10 lb CO2 cylinder regulated to 150 psi.

Hydraulic elec lug crimper - realize use is very infrequent but worry I’ll need it someday on the side of the road.

Welder - another infrequent tool but sure miss being able to splatter some metal

My neighbor just bought a new 2023 Tiffin in september. Hasn't used it 1 time for camping.        It's been in shop since mid October, and still no end in sight.  Up till now, he would joke and say only tools he carried is a credit card.   He's starting to rethink that strategy.
