Scotty Hutto Posted December 7, 2023 Posted December 7, 2023 Ever so often, we have a thread about what tools folks carry. It’s been a while, so just in case anyone needs gift ideas, I thought this was a pretty decent list from RV Travel newsletter: https://www.rvtravel.com/video-rv-toolbox-tools-2247/ What’s missing from this list? Tell us your favorites!
96 EVO Posted December 7, 2023 Posted December 7, 2023 On long trips I like to have my hand pump with me. If I ever had to change fuel filter(s) on the side of the road, I can slide it into the fuel tank and pre-fill the new filter(s). Haven't needed it yet, but never say never!
Pduggs Posted December 7, 2023 Posted December 7, 2023 (edited) We full time so I’m carrying a lot of tools and other items. Scotty Hutto Posted December 8, 2023 Author Posted December 8, 2023 @NGADawgs introduced me to Gaffer’s tape. Best stuff ever! 1
1nolaguy Posted December 8, 2023 Posted December 8, 2023 Recently added Pex tool and clamp as well as a couple of feet of 1/2' pex pipe. Also multi head hand wrench and multiple versions of #2 Rounson aka square head screwdriver bits. 3

It’s a decent list for people that don’t already carry a reasonable set of hand tools. But the article mentions a tool bag, and all that stuff is better in a couple toolboxes. I have an entire storage bay dedicated to tools, spare filters, and some project boxes. 2

Haha, I'm like you, too many tools and parts to list, scattered wherever they fit. Too much to even try to list. Ready for an apocalypse, almost. 4

Ready for an apocalypse, almost Same here, I keep adding stuff then realize I have two of almost everything now. One thing I carry is a lot of different size cable ties, it’s amazing what you can do with those things in a pinch. 2
Jim Pratten Posted December 9, 2023 Posted December 9, 2023 RIGHT ANGLE GRINDER Ok, I know this isn’t for everyone, but I wouldn’t travel without a right angle grinder. Use it at least once a week to either cut, grind or wire brush something. We’re full timers, so projects are done on the road and almost every project calls on the grinder. Tools I miss the most that didn’t win the “space battle” in our 34 York: Skill saw - though it’s amazing what the small multi-tool vibrator will do in a pinch; once cut a sheet of plywood Compressor - we do carry a 10 lb CO2 cylinder regulated to 150 psi. Hydraulic elec lug crimper - realize use is very infrequent but worry I’ll need it someday on the side of the road. Welder - another infrequent tool but sure miss being able to splatter some metal 1
dl_racing427 Posted December 10, 2023 Posted December 10, 2023 I only really use my coach to go racing, so I have my full tool complement in the race trailer. I do keep large sockets needed for changing a tire, and a few other coach-specific tools as well.
96 EVO Posted January 11, 2024 Posted January 11, 2024 Discovered yesterday, I should be carrying my impact gun! Luckily, a friend in a nearby park carries his.
Gweedo Posted January 12, 2024 Posted January 12, 2024 Permatex stretch tape, repair any oil/water leak to get you home, set of A's , I have a 3" circular saw, permatex gasket maker, air line and fittings, tire plug and sealant, and WHISKEY just in case... 1
windsorbill06 Posted January 12, 2024 Posted January 12, 2024 My neighbor just bought a new 2023 Tiffin in september. Hasn't used it 1 time for camping. It's been in shop since mid October, and still no end in sight. Up till now, he would joke and say only tools he carried is a credit card. He's starting to rethink that strategy. 1
96 EVO Posted January 12, 2024 Posted January 12, 2024 Yep, credit card will work! If you enjoy RV'ing in repair shop parking lots ☹️! 2 1
