  1. John, I am not sure you are fully comprehending what Van is trying to get across to you. The TRW has a high spot on the gear that is connected to the steering wheel and when you adjust the TRW that high spot must correspond with the wheels being pointed straight ahead. When you move the steering wheel left or right the gear moves off of that high spot and there is slop in the steering by design. You do not notice it because you are applying force since you are in a turn. When you move the steering wheel back straight again you should be back on that high spot with zero dead motion in the steering. A common mistake is folks replace the Shepard with a TRW and do not adjust the length of the drag link to reattach it to the Pitman arm. They move the steering wheel to get the drag link back on and that means when the wheels of the coach are pointing straight ahead you are no longer on the high spot of the TRW and will have dead motion in the steering. Ask me how I know this🙂. I suspect there is nothing wrong with your TRW and you do not need to replace it. You just need to make sure the mark on the output spline shaft is aligned with the mark on the body of the TRW. You must have the drag link disconnected when you do this and the wheels must be pointing straight ahead. Then you adjust the TRW. Next you must be careful not to move the steering wheel or the front wheels and if the drag link does not align with the Pitman arm you must adjust the tie rod end on the drag-link.
  2. The 2000 Diplomat has a lower ceiling height than the 2006 Diplomat so pay attention to what Van is telling you about the furnace type. Van installed a Samsung in his 2000 Dynasty and kept the furnace. Also I would like to point out that in recent years the RV industry has moved to 12 Volt DC refrigerators that are built for the RV and marine market. Take a look at some of those and see if there may be one that will work for you.
  3. Check for a steering damper that will definitely cause a pull if not adjusted correctly and in some cases will cause a problem with steering. I know this from my own experience. Had a lot of trouble over the years with a TruCenter and was debating sending it back to the factory for the third time so I pulled it. Lo and behold a problem I was having with steering vanished. That TruCenter now rests somewhere in a scrap metal pile. I spent about a year developing a weigh-in-motion system for the Air Force and that is where I learned about tire footprint. PLEASE CHECK THE AIR PRESURE IN ALL YOUR TIRES. Have the coach weighed and pressure the tires according to the manufactures load tables for THAT BRAND of tires.
  4. Larry, If your 07 Diplomat is anything like our 06 Diplomat then you have to remove the hardware by reaching behind the panel. This can be a challenge but is doable I did it at least three times before I modified the panel. Once you get the hardware that is attached to the panel disconnected ( I say disconnected because most of the items are still in place but not attached to the panel ) you must let the panel drop down so the top of the panel will clear the compartment opening. Once the panel is in a position that it will come out thru the compartment opening bend the panel inward at the middle while pulling out on the left and right edges. Force the panel thru the opening and you now have it out. Not a job for the faint at heart.
  5. We have had a Verizon prepaid unlimited plan for two years now and they will throttle it back anytime the traffic is high. In some locations we can stream with it and others we just give up. Often it is super slow even for general internet use and we end up turning on the hotspot on our Verizon cellphone. Verizon will never slow down the cellphone service. I don't think there is a truly unlimited cell service data plan out there because as far as I am unconcerned if they slow it down to the point you can't watch a YouTube video then it is not unlimited. Here at home our internet screams 24/7 and we stream Netflix's and Amazon Prime all the time. If I could get that kind of service in an RV cellphone link I would gladly pay $100 a month. Heck, I am paying $65 a month for the crampy Verizon prepaid now.
  6. The easy way to tell the difference between a Shepard and a TRW is often overlooked. The TRW uses a bolt thru the top of the Pitman arm clamping it to the output spline shaft. The Shepard is significantly beefier and has a nut attaching the arm to the output shaft with a locking washer. Below is a photo of the Pitman arm of a TRW. I do not have a photo handy of the Shepard but they are like night and day.
  7. Most likely the same as Steve's Knight. I think Monaco only had one version of the electric step cover. I would send Steve a private message and get his phone number. Sounds like he is willing to talk you thru the process.
  8. Now I see. Good catch. It is amazing what the human brain will tolerate when reading text. You can have half the words drastically misspelled and the brain still knows what the message is. Maybe Bob's fingers got a little silly on the keyboard. Mine do that all the time and if I don't proof read I look like the backward Hillbilly I almost became. Seems as I get older when I type my brain swaps the position of letters like bcak for back. Getting old is not for sissies!
  9. Some here are showing their age. I grew up in a body shop and back before clear coat paint fading was a problem. Often my Dad would have a car with fades paint that needed repair. If he used the factory paint it would not match. If he matched the paint in a year or so it would fade and not match the other more faded paint.. It seems that the clearcoat helps eliminate that problem but presents a new problem - peeling clear coat. If you can keep your vehicle out of the sun you will be way ahead on not only keeping your paint in good shape but also reduce cracking on your tires and clouding of your head light lens.
  10. I do not understand your post. May just be me because I don't keep up with society.
  11. The batteries are charging to 100% but they may be old or have damaged cells so the voltage will drop off fast when a load is applied. My first suspect would be the batteries. Keep in mind that if your inverter is a Modified Sine Wave (MSW) Inverter it does not have a sine wave output and you cannot accurately measure the output voltage unless you have a True RMS Voltmeter. Most folks do not own a Ture RMS Voltmeter.
  12. Sounds like and old P30 chassis so I would check for worn parts before getting an alignment or adding the stabilizer.
  13. Paint codes are usually located on a label under the driver's seat but these are only numbers and if the paint shop can't find the formulas they make have trouble mixing a good match. I went thru that. Took the frig vent to them which had all three colors and ask them to match the paint because they could not find the formulas based on the paint codes. The paint did not match and caused me a lot of trouble. I finally got the formulas for the paint codes from Industrial Finishes in Eugene, Oregon and they were able to mix the correct match. Call the them and see if they have the formulas as they supplied the paint to Monaco. Industrial Finishes 3455 W 1st Ave, Eugene, Oregon 97402 (541) 485-2033 Ask for paint desk Will email or fax paint formulas to you
  14. We have and 2006 Diplomat and ours is a lot worse than yours. The roof structure is an aluminum frame with crossmembers. Foam insulation is placed in the open areas of the frame and the entire roof is covered with plywood and fiberglass. The plywood does not seem to be thick enough and over time the roof will sag between the crossmembers.
  15. I have been doing that for many years. Often street addresses will put you in the wrong place for a large coach or just plain the wrong place altogether. If you can take a good look at your intended destination on Google Maps in the satellite mode you usually can pick a good location at the entrance of the campground, etc. and enter the coordinates into the search bar of the GPS. Most GPS's will search for the exact location by coordinates. Before saving the location give it a name. If you don't give it a name you will have to listen to the GPS voice calling out the numbers for the destination.
  16. Because I am retired I don't have to drive at night anymore. Driving a Class A at night is like being in a fish bowl. We usually hit the road about 8 am and try to stop by 3 pm. I like taking it easy and it is fun to get to the campground early and watch others check in. I know folks that leave on a trip very early and drive into the late evening and then pull off into a Walmart to grab a few hours of sleep. That sounds like work to me and not much fun. Sometimes I wonder if my headlights even work and then I see the daylight running lights in the vehicle in front of me.
  17. You got to love Chris, he always goes the extra mile.
  18. We have had the Magna shades for years. When you think about it the shade is not coach specific but windshield specific. If you measure the windshield like they ask then they probably know the windshield size in your coach no matter what the model. Same goes for the windows. Just do the measurements they ask for and the shades should work. We have dealt with Magna shade on several occasions and they always came thru.
  19. Your post escapes me. What is ppl?
  20. John, I would observe the input shaft to the TRW while someone moves the steering wheel back and forth only in the dead motion zone to verify that the lost movement is in fact in the column spline shaft and/or the universal joints. It is rare but there have been cases of failed TRW boxes that produced excessive play even after adjustment. Another thing to keep in mind is the design of the TRW. The TRW output shaft must be aligned on the marks when the adjustment is made. If not then there will be play in the movement. When the marks are aligned the internal gears are on a high spot. Turing the steering wheel right or left drops off the high spot but you do not notice the play because you are applying force against the gears as you make the turn. When the vehicle is pointed straight ahead the gears should be back on the high spot so the steering system feels responsive. This allows you to steady the Pitman arm and the attached drag link and consequently the front wheels. If you are not on that high spot when traveling straight down the road there could be some motion in the Pitman arm and drag link. That translates to wander. Besides the TRW and the steering components you should be aware that a lot of your handling issues are a result of the H-frame moving around the single tie point of the Panhard bar. This single tie point acts like a fulcrum and consequently your front tires, which are attached to the H-frame, can be forced to point in a direction that you are not pointing your wheels. This is usually caused by external forces such as wind acting on the motorhome. The H-frame is attached to the frame by four air bags and they are flexible by nature. The upper and lower trailing arms are used to stabilize the H-frame front to back and the Panhard bar reduces lateral movement. The bushings in the trailing arms have some movement so the H-frame can wiggle around the Panhard bar tie point. The Watts link adds another tie point in parallel with the Panhard bar thus stabilizing the H-frame.
  21. Mark, About five years ago we upgraded both units on our 2006 Diplomat to the High Output Penguin's and installed the new CCC2 thermostat. Before the upgrade we often had problems cooling the coach in hot weather. Have not had a problem since. I would highly suggest that you upgrade both units to the High Output version. For some reason they do not call them 15K units and I suspect it is because they are not quite 15K.
  22. The electric step cover uses a self resetting fuse similar to the ones in the link below. If the mechanism is dragging or binding the motor will over current and trip the fuse. This happens very fast and you will hear a click. If you are not aware of the presence of the self resetting fuse you might think the motor is bad. Sometimes if you pull the cover out some with your hand the binding will decrease and the step will work. Lubrication is not always the correct fix but may help. On ours part of the mechanism came loose and once that was repaired the step cover worked correctly. https://tinyurl.com/y4ow72vw _Stepwell Indiana step cover.pdf
  23. Peggy called my wife this morning and said Bill passed away Wednesday night. Many of you know Bill as he was a long time member of this site. He will be missed and our thoughts and prayers go out to Peggy and the family.
  24. Thanks for the info on the other charger. No it was not just a bad Braun charger because I blew two before I realized what was going on. The only other thing we have had a problem with on the MSW was a fancy electric portable heater. Years ago when the coach was still parked outside we kept an electric heater on in the winter. It had an electronic control with a display and while getting ready for a trip one morning I unplugged the 50 amp shore power which caused the outlets to switch over to the inverter. I had forgotten to turn off the heater first and going inside smelled the tell tell odor of a burned electronic component and the heater was dead.
