  1. Im going to assume your asking why you have 12v power and not 120v power anywhere. You would only have 120V power if: - You are plugged into shore power, or - Your generator is running, or - You are running your battery inverter to get 120VAC Your coach won’t have it unless one of those scenarios are met.
  2. I have the 5 speed Allison transmission with the Arens Controls 2 digit touchpad. Every now and then when changing from drive to neutral to reverse or Visa-versa, the little red service light illuminates on the touchpad and am unable to shift until I restart the engine. Quite annoying, especially when trying to back into campsites and what not. The “check transmission” light on the dash never comes with the touchpad light. Does anyone know if this is leaning towards a transmission issue, or an issue with the touchpad itself. Very limited information out there to try and troubleshoot myself.
  3. So the Cummins shop is saying I will need a new turbo in the near future. It showed 1 actuator position fault 20 drive hours ago. They claim the testing they did is showing the vanes of the VGT turbo are not opening and closing fully. Gets to about 7% closed, 94% open. They don’t believe it’s the actuator, but rather the turbo vane linkage. It still builds up boost pressure, about 28psi when accelerating and as far as I can tell it is working to slow me down - it’s not just the transmission downshifting when I utilize the exhaust brake. It blows a little black smoke when accelerating and has a slight surging sound in the exhaust at idle. I’m not 100% convinced I need a new turbo yet however. They say they can’t get one in for a few weeks and I’m supposed to be heading to the east coast of Canada on Saturday in it. I asked for their honest opinion…what harm would I do if I went as is. They said they obviously can’t make any guarantees, but said it shouldn’t be a problem and won’t cause any harm to the engine. They quoted me a refurb turbo from Cummins, just the part for 6.5K. 😬 I’ve ordered some fuel treatment that is supposed to assist with cleaning the turbo, as well as an aerosol to spray in the intake. These items were suggested to try/use while operating at highway speeds by the Cummins mechanic. Am I crazy taking this thing out east? Round trip it’s about a 3600 Km tour. Thanks for your opinions.
  4. We utilize the VGT for exhaust braking. Done quite a bit of research and learning and stress these past few days. As weird as this is, my Cayman is going in for service as the turbo actuator is giving a fault code. Found by chance when I decided to plug in a cheap reader to see if anything was showing that would indicate boost leak, injector issue etc. as I have noticed black smoke on acceleration from stop since I got steer tires put on as well as an “air through a hose” kinda sound while driving alongside bridges and buildings and whatnot. Coming from the back end. Sounds like exhaust is surging at low idle as well. Took a peek underneath just now. There has been oil coming out of the inlet side of the plastic boot on the turbo, as well as oil present on the oil return line connection. No drips, but oil is there. Not looking forward to the prognosis. Hope it’s just the actuator. Suppose to be going cross country in 2 weeks.
  5. Boost pressure seems okay. Was out in it today as I had put a container of Diesel Kleen in to get it sloshed around and working. Boost pressures seemed to be in the appropriate ranges for what I was pushing for. I think I will make a pressure cap for the inlet side of the turbo and see for sure if it’s a boost leak or not.
  6. After a day at the beach, this sound has started on our way back. Quite noticeable at higher RPM, not so much at idle. I noticed some black smoke when accelerating from a stop since and have quickly looked around for obvious boost leaks or other items. This surging noise is quite loud when rolling down the highway. Any suggestions? Cummins 5.9 ISB 300…with some kind of exhaust brake😉. As always, appreciate any and all input. IMG_3737.MOV
  7. I literally just today was going to lubricate my PacBrake as per the manual and ran into the same problem. Where is it? What do I have if I don’t have it? Too funny. I thought I was going crazy today. My setup is exactly the same as yours.
  8. I upgraded all my tail lights in the Cayman to LED, and while they are brighter than the stock incandescent bulbs, Im still longing for a nicer looking and even brighter setup. Saw a few newer rigs rolling through town the other day and I could see their lights clear across the city. Quite impressive really. I’ve searched fairly extensively on the internet and have come up with nothing - Aside from some ridiculously priced see-through ones of the exact same stock setup, and they still use the same sockets. Has anyone seen a solution to replace the stock 2-piece light assembly to something that is fully LED, preferably one piece and looks nice? I can’t believe how wasteful they made these lights in the first place by stacking them identical and only using what would work. Bugs me. Any input appreciated. I’ve contemplated adding the large, round LED truck lights into the side walls of the rig somehow, just not sure what would make it aesthetically pleasing. Also thought about making something up myself to replace the stock setup. Thanks in advance, Brad.
  9. Thought I’d chime in and showcase my LED upgrade to all my fluorescents. I also added a small push on / push off switch on the opposite side of the stock switch to a second bank of LED strips for when extra lighting would be required. Nice easy addition. Really makes the place pop when they’re all on.
  10. Just purchased two new Michelin steer tires as the ones that were on it were starting to weather crack. Consulted with our local tire guy - who I trust - and he agreed it might not be a bad idea to replace them. Rather unfortunate as there was still lots of tread left on them, but I’ve seen one too many videos now of motorhomes blowing a steer tire and flipping over. I do what I can when it comes to safety. Anyways, $2000.00 CAD later, I have new steer tires now. 😳 Bit of a hit, but I feel better.
  11. Agree. Check up front for anything obvious, then check power. Should be able to narrow down a possible fuse or where the issue is. Lots of messy wiring under there, but it isn’t so bad once you sort of “isolate it”. As to where the fuse is - not sure - but I would think its in the front driver side electrical bay. According to your manual, its a 10 amp circuit breaker in your front electrical bay labeled MONACO1, circuit is WIPER.
  12. Is it throwing any codes, either with a code reader or perhaps onboard diagnostic blinking lights up front like my cayman has? I hope it’s not your high pressure pump like my no start condition was last year. Pretty pricey pump.
  13. Tank pad relay being the (Optional) heater pads for your bulk tanks.
  14. Those are the same relays some older elevators use. Before you replace them, check to see if something has got stuck in, on or around the armature. Usually a tiny piece of metal or something gets stuck. Carefully remove the bottom spring and then work the relay face off to expose the armature. Give it a good look over, wipe the armature face and see if that stops your noise. Could just be a buildup of metal debris from normal use. Make sure you’re in a zero power condition! Use a meter!! Good luck.
  15. Would anyone know for sure what grade the water pump bolts are for a 2015 era 300ISB 5.9 Cummins? I can find every spec for them except the grade - Thread pitch, length, size, torque value etc. I came home today to my coolant on my driveway. Motorhome hasn’t run in a week, just sitting in the driveway. One of the grade 10.9 bolts had snapped off the water pump. I tell ya….some days…. I might add that my torque wrenches all seem to start at 50 Ft-lbs, and I decided to wing it on guessing the Cummins spec of 18 ft-lbs, so that could be a factor. Smaller torque wrench has since been added to my collection. 😄
  16. Might chime in on this. I discovered this same issue on my coach just a few weeks ago while making an emergency stop on the 401 Highway in Canada. My case was that the four ways only stopped flashing when brakes were applied. Signals individually work fine while braking. Haven’t looked into it yet as I’ve been busy bringing other systems up to par. Will update when I find something. Following.
  17. Had quite a drive up to Rondeau Provincial Park in Ontario over the Victoria Day long weekend. Worked all day at a new Amazon fulfillment plant installing the elevators while DW packed up the MoHo so we could just basically leave when I got home. That part worked fine, unfortunately about halfway there, or about an hour and a bit into the trip, I notice the stop engine light and check engine light at lit. For how long I can’t say exactly. My coolant temp guage is on the fritz some days, and it was that day. Anyways, pulled off to the shoulder on the 401 and opened the hatch in the closet. Serpentine belt came off, but still in tact. Reservoir tank is boiling over onto the asphalt. Not good. Me being a newbie coach owner learned the hard lesson of keeping spares, as I did not have one on board. Turns out no one did because noone was open at 6 on a Friday of a long weekend. I decided to reinstall the belt and see what happens. Made it about a kilometer and the belt fell Off again. Pulled it off to the side of the 401 again and decided to try and get a tow. Unforgivably no one was able to tow us. We tried every place within a 250km radius. No one could help as they either weren’t open, stopped doing weekend service calls or were just not willing to tow it. So I put it back on and waited for a clear stretch of traffic and managed to limp it to the park at around 11:45 at night. We had planned to show up at around 6:30. During that time the belt had fallen off 4 more times, as my saving grace was the BlueFire App I had the wife watch the temperature like a hawk during the travel. What a great tool. This thing literally saved my A$$! In the end we had a pleasant stay at the site, and it wasn’t until I was at the Canadian Tire parking lot on Monday (as they were literally the only ones open)I discovered the underlying issue. The belt tension was not sitting aligned with everything else. It was quite clear in the daylight. Everything felt firm, the pulley spun freely, as did all the other ones. The reason it was cocked is because the M10 Gr.8 bolt that holds it on was slightly bent at the threads. How does that happen?? I still can’t figure it out. There is no sign of a mechanical binding or anything anywhere. Any input would be much appreciated. Anyways, bought some standard M10 hardware and was able to replace the bolt with a modified one. Got me home without incident. New belt, tensioner and water pump for the heck of it should be ready for pickup tomorrow. 😉 Thanks for reading!
  18. There’s a two position valve attached to the water heater. Turn it the other way and just use the cold water taps. Done that once now. 🥲
  19. Has anyone had any luck resolving condensation between windows, aside from replacing. The window in the entrance door and above the drivers side window are always full of moisture. Quite annoying, looking for any ideas or suggestions. It is only those two windows affected of the 10 windows on the coach. Thanks.
  20. Hi folks. I got my guardian plates from TalinRV installed today. Not too bad of a job. Lots of careful grinding of the slide bottom wall and very sticky & messy marine sealant. In the end, turned out quite nicely, and hopefully that fixes up all those problems. My other problem now is I’m fighting myself on how to fix up the trim piece that runs horizontally along the whole length of the coach, just above the cargo bay doors. Previous owner has siliconed atop the original. The caulk is starting to peel away in places, but in other areas it’s sticking just fine still. How would you go about fixing this? Thanks.
  21. That’s sounds overly complicated. I must have an extremely basic system. Pump runs the three jacks from the batteries. No need to start the engine or connect to shore power. No pumping the brakes and whatnot to air down either. Alarm sounds if I try to start it and jacks aren’t up. Very simple. Interested to see your outcome, nonetheless.
