Frame Weld Failure

Recommended Posts

Here is a recent post on IRV2  https://www.irv2.com/forums/f258/broken-frame-on-a-2008-holiday-endeavor-603336.html

Thought it worth while to post here as I'd never seen a similar weld failure like this.  Maybe others can comment.

There have been requests for more pictures but the OP has not come back yet.  I'm trying to visualize where this is.

Either way it just highlights for everyone to do a thorough inspection of the chassis/frame on a regular basis.  If the failure was caught early it would have been repairable with much less effort.

I will send the poster a PM and suggest he join Monacoers.org.   I can't do it within the thread, I've been scolded for doing this recently and am currently on probation.  IRV2 has a rule against posting links to competitor websites.

Looking at it I’m with you, can’t picture where it’s at on the Coach.

The “torn” part just looks so thin to be a section of the main channel frame. I can’t imagine a frame tearing like that. We’ve had fully loaded dump trucks that the bed fell over, and the cab of the truck stayed level, if you can picture a frame twisting 90 degrees. Nothing torn or ripped. The frame had a slight twist to it when we got it upright.

Anyway, a better perspective with pics would be helpful.

And I laughing at the suggestion of taking Ike whole house off and putting a new frame under it. That’s called “totaled” in the insurance world

Not to hijack the thread, but I get so amused at IRV2 on this issue. I don’t think of the two sites as competitors; I think of them as complimentary - they are the General Practitioner, whereas we are the Specialist Surgeons. 😂 But I guess when it’s for profit, you’re scared of losing clicks to another site.

For the record, I frequently recommend IRV2 and the FB Monacoers group. All of them have a place, value, and a different things that they each do best.  In my not-so-humble opinion, this site is best for technical “get it working and keep it working” advice. IRV2 tries to be everything to everyone 🤣.

Now back to the discussion of frame welds…

I agree!

That metal doesn't look thick enough to be the frame!

irv2 is the worst site on the internet. I try not to post there since I don't like being talked down to by overbearing mods. Our files should not be shared there.

I tend to agree but I tolerate the moderators to maintain access to the site.  They all have a different sense of what is acceptable "content".   I had been asked twice to be a moderator but declined.  Too many rules to enforce.

There are several posters on IRV2 that are very knowledgeable and I read the site to pick up any bits of information I could use in the future.   Several of these are Monaco owners who do not visit this site as much for some reason.   But I try to do what I can to help people which I think is the intent of all the different sits.

Agree more pictures needed. My guess is it’s a support for a basement bay… jack it back up, weld and then plate it.

I’ve been banned “ForEver” on IRV2… criticized a Mod during Covid because his signature was political after he said I’d been political…. No sense of humor. Did me a favor as I was spending too much time on there.

I wondered where you went.  There are many that you helped and many that won't get help now that you're gone.   Sounds like Twitter oversight before Elon.

I was leaning Basement as well, based on the thickness in the pics.

I'm on probation on IRV2 for recommending someone join the Monacoers.org group.

In the past I informed them that the Monacoers.org group has a pretty good database of files and would provide a link to the site.  I'm sure a number of people joined on my recommendation but no idea how many.

Just how much money does the RV site take in? A few clicks here and there going to put a dent in the bottom line?

Veering off…………………………

That's the intent of members such as you and I but IRV2 has other intentions,  centered around money.

Apperantly a lot of money, they are located in Southlake Tx,  Soutlake is a suburb of DFW and has been said to be perhaps the most affluent city in the US.                        All I know is it's pretty nice over there.

One of the moderators got upset with me a while back. Claimed I was 'soliciting' 😮!

A new US member had bought a coach in Canada, that came equipped with a Canadian made satellite dish, programed to search for Shaw direct satellites.

He wanted to know if he could get it reprogramed to work with Dish, or Direct TV. I had the same dish on my roof, that could use a few parts, and knew the manufacturer had shut down, and told the member this, and was unlikely he would be able to find any support to reprogram his dish controller.

Told him if he wanted to sell it, to PM me.

That, to this so called 'moderator', was solicitation!
